Romano lifts lid on ‘danger’ for Tottenham board

Speaking on Instagram [6:03], Fabrizio Romano has updated Tottenham Hotspur and other supporters on the situations of Premier League club boards after the ‘big six’ proposed to break away in a European Super League – with the journalist reporting that they will ‘be in danger’.

Plans for a ESL prompted plenty of backlash and protests from supporters after Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs announced they would be part of the breakaway European division.

Tottenham board in ‘danger’

Over the last 48 hours, the collective voice of supporters and uproar from figures in the media have now prompted all clubs involved to announce they’re leaving the ESL after originally joining as founding members.

As a result, the controversial plans have now been officially suspended – with Romano providing an update on Instagram last night after the huge development.

The Italian reporter, dropping a major claim on all the boards involved, which includes Tottenham, says their situations will be in ‘danger’.

“We can say that, 100% at the moment, all of the situations of the boards of the clubs will be in danger guys,” Romano explained (via Instagram).

“Because they were fully convinced by the Super League, and now after 48 hours, they are in a completely different situation.”

Transfer Tavern take

It remains to be seen what specifically constitutes the ‘danger’ for Tottenham’s board, but questions simply must be asked after the extremely controversial decision to join the ESL.

The likes of Pep Guardiola voiced their discontent towards the proposed competition alongside various players, and the decision to enter it was done without the consultation of supporters.

After a full U-turn by all clubs involved, there simply must be enquiries as to how Spurs and the rest move forward – and it’s correct that questions are asked of the boards after a whirlwind few days.

Bhatia must sanction QPR swoop for Austin

Mark Warburton’s Queens Park Rangers side are interested in signing on-loan striker Charlie Austin on a permeant basis this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to Football League World, who revealed that QPR are quietly confident of securing a deal for the West Bromwich Albion centre-forward at the end of the current season.

FLW claim that, while the £52,000-per-week salary of Austin could pose a problem for a side with one of the smaller wage budgets in the Championship, QPR are looking to offer the 31-year-old a deal that incentivises goals scored and promotion from the league in order to convince him of a move to Loftus Road.

Bhatia must move

Having joined QPR on loan back in January, Austin has already proven in his short time back at the club that he is still very much capable of doing a job in the second tier of English football.

Over his 19 league appearances for Warburton’s side this term, the £1.8 million-rated striker has scored six goals, registered one assist and has created two big chances, as well as taking an average of 2.4 shots and making 0.6 key passes per game, culminating in an average SofaScore match rating of 6.93 – ranking him as the club’s best performing forward, as well as their eighth-best player overall.

As such, while the play-offs are out of the question this term, should Warburton wish to give his side the best possible chance of securing a top-six finish next time around, Amit Bhatia must do all he can to land Austin on a permanent deal over the summer as, with a pre-season under his belt, as well as a full league campaign in which to make an impact, the 31-year-old could prove vital to a QPR promotion push.

And with Football League World also reporting that the centre-forward – who Harry Redknapp claimed always “works his socks off” – could be convinced of a move to the MLS, it would be highly advisable for the QPR chairman to begin talks with Austin sooner rather than later or he risks him moving elsewhere.

Gustavo Oliveira, ex-diretor-executivo, cuidava do caso.

LFC fans unimpressed with Thiago display

A number of Liverpool fans were left unimpressed with Thiago’s performance in the Reds’ 1-0 win over Wolves on Monday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men picked up a vital three points at Molineux, keeping their slim hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four alive.

Diogo Jota’s solitary goal was enough to separate the two sides, with Portuguese firing home on the stroke of half-time and haunting his former club.

It may not have been a vintage performance from Liverpool, but there were undoubted positives on show, not least a second clean sheet in as many games.

[freshpress-poll id=“348883″]

Ozan Kabak and Nathaniel Phillips were both superb at the heart of the Reds’ defence, while Trent Alexander-Arnold was rock-solid at right-back.

Jota was also a lively presence in the final third, while Fabinho was again a dominant figure back in his preferred midfield role.

Thiago had a disappointing night, however, recklessly jumping into tackles as he committed three fouls, giving the ball away 16 times – he only had a 77% pass completion rate – and eventually being substituted in the second half.

Liverpool fans react to Thiago’s poor performance

These Reds supporters took to Twitter to provide their thoughts on the Spaniard’s display, which one Kopite labelled his ‘worst game’ in a Liverpool shirt so far.

Liverpool must swoop for Koulibaly

Despite Liverpool having recruited two centre-backs in the January transfer window, the Reds continue to be linked with yet more defensive stalwarts.

The latest named in whom Jurgen Klopp is reportedly interested is Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

In completing a deal for the Senegalese international, then they would be securing one of the best centre-backs in Europe at the current time.

The defender, now aged 29, has been with the Serie A giants since 2014 and, in that time, he has forged a reputation as a ferocious and dominant figure at the back.

He has gone on to make 274 appearances for the Partenopei, winning the Coppa Italia with the club last year.

His defensive statistics are also extremely impressive this season despite having missed part of the campaign after testing positive for COVID-19.

He is averaging 1.6 tackles, one interception, 1.7 clearances and 0.8 blocks per game in 2020/21, according to WhoScored.

When compared to Joe Gomez, who Koulibaly would presumably replace in the Liverpool starting XI when every player is fit, the Napoli man comes out on top in every facet besides clearances – the Englishman averaging a huge 4.4 per game throughout 2020/21 before his campaign was curtailed due to injury.

Some could make an argument that the Napoli defender’s age could be a negative factor, and to some extent that could be true – Koulibaly turns 30 in June.

However, age brings considerable experience, with him having made 26 appearances in the Champions League throughout his career, which of course would become extremely useful as the Reds attempt to continuing challenging on multiple fronts under Jurgen Klopp.

A deal would also not come cheap. Rated at £54m, it could take a considerably larger fee to bring him to Anfield.

Nevertheless, with no other glaring weakness in the Liverpool squad besides the centre-back position next to the dominant Virgil van Dijk, a big-money swoop for Koulibaly could see Liverpool regain their defensive resolve and once again challenge at the very top.

Newcastle face competition to sign Kuchta

Newcastle United reportedly face competition from other clubs in the Premier League to sign Jan Kuchta, according to Football Insider.

As per the news outlet, the St. James’ Park faithful as well as West Ham United, Southampton and Brighton and Hove Albion watched the Slavia Prague ace in their 1-1 draw at home to Rangers in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening.

Newcastle should sign Kuchta

The North East club should be looking to sign Kuchta in the summer transfer window and thus beat off all competition from their rivals for his signature.

The 24-year-old has no fewer than 20 goal contributions already so far in the 2020/21 term, with 13 goals and a further seven assists in total in just 25 games over all competitions (Transfermarkt).

With a six-foot frame as well, he should have no problems adapting to the physical demands of the top flight, and can take immense encouragement from just how well both Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have done at the Hammers having come from the same club as him.

Nonetheless, Kuchta is certainly a striker that the Tyneside club should be keeping an eye on, as he is more than capable of easing off the goal scoring burden off of Callum Wilson.

Wolves Predicted XI vs Crystal Palace

For what feels like the first time in an eternity, Wolves kept a clean sheet in midweek.

As the Old Gold drew 0-0 with Chelsea, it was their first shut out since late October in the league, a run stretching to 13 top-flight outings.

The trio of defenders at the heart of Wolves’ defence were close to impeccable with Max Kilman, Conor Coady and Willy Boly losing only one duel between them.

That being said, this is still a tricky time for the Old Gold. They’ve won just three times in their last 12 matches and desperately need to improve if they want to realise their European ambitions.

After all, they’re starting to be talked about in the same breath as a relegation. Clearly, that was not what Jeff Shi had on his mind at the start of the campaign.

Though, holding Chelsea should bring them confidence when they travel to play Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon. Here’s the XI we’re predicting Nuno to go with.

We reckon that Nuno could make as many as three changes to the starting XI on Saturday. The Portuguese keeps his three-man defence but Romain Saiss comes into the side at the expense of Rayan Ait-Nouri.

The Frenchman was substituted with an injury against Chelsea and thus, Kilman shuffles along slightly to left-back.

Another change is in midfield where we think that Nuno should go with Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in order to give Wolves a bit more creative potency. Palace conceded three times against West Ham last time out so Nuno can certainly afford to play a bit more expansively at Selhurst Park. That means Leander Dendoncker is absent on this occasion.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-this-weeks-latest-wolves-news” title=”Read this week’s latest Wolves news”]

The final change falls in attack where the £43k-per-week Adama Traore misses out. Tim Spiers labelled him the only negative from the match with Chelsea and as a result, is replaced by new arrival Willian Jose.

The Brazilian signed from Real Sociedad on loan last weekend but only made a brief cameo on Wednesday evening. This time we believe he deserves an opportunity to start.

Somente três titulares começam a partida: o goleiro Paulo Victor, o zagueiro Juan e o meia Mancuello.

Serão oito reservas no jogo.
