Plymouth Argyle: Klajdi Lolos told he is in the "last chance saloon" by Ryan Lowe

Plymouth striker Klajdi Lolos has been given an ultimatum on his future at Home Park by manager Ryan Lowe.

The 19-year-old had spent time out on loan with Dorchester Town in the Southern Premier League this season and he has now been given a very clear message about his chances of establishing himself at his parent club.

As per Plymouth Herald, Lowe said: “Lolos, we see magic in him. A few people have said ‘Can he do this, can he do that?’

“I have got a lot of time for Lolos because I think he can be a special player and I have told him this. But he is probably in the last chance saloon to kick on and go and show us he can play league football because we feel he can.”

Greek striker Lolos played a handful of first team games for Plymouth earlier in the season, starting one EFL Trophy match and making four substitute appearances in League Two, along with grabbing an assist in the Carabao Cup defeat to Reading last August. [via TransferMarkt]

Plymouth Herald noted that the teenager continued to play for the Pilgrims in the Central League and Premier League Under-23 Cup throughout his loan spell at Dorchester, scoring several times in those fixtures.

He returns to Home Park with his chances of first team football perhaps boosted by the impending releases of Ryan Taylor and Alex Fletcher, both of whose contracts expire at the end of this month, while Ryan Hardie has returned to Blackpool after the culmination of his loan spell.

Lowe will need all the firepower he can get as Argyle take on League One next season and he has thrown down the gauntlet to Lolos, who has no experience at that level.

The Greek youngster probably won’t be leading the line for Plymouth in 2020/21, although he has the opportunity to make a firm case to his manager now that he has been told it is effectively a case of now or never for him at Home Park.

Man City fans want to sign Lautaro Martinez after recent reports

Manchester City fans have reacted to the reports that Pep Guardiola is interested in prising away Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez. However, the reports from Interlive.it (via Sport Witness) state there is strong competition from fellow European giants such as Manchester United.

Reports last month (via Sport Witness) did tell how City looked towards Martinez as a potential replacement for Sergio Aguero, who turns 32 in the summer. Elsewhere, a report from Calciomercato this week has revealed Martinez’s buyout clause is set at €111m (£95m).

Now, Interlive.it report that City are ready to offer Gabriel Jesus, who wants a new adventure, in a part-exchange deal for the forward.

The 22-year-old has impressed in Italy this season, as he has helped Inter into second in Serie A, just one point behind Juventus.

The striker’s eight goals in all competitions so far put him just one behind Romelu Lukaku, as Antonio Conte’s men continue to impress.

It seems this potential signing has a lot of City fans hoping that the deal goes through, despite the fact Jesus could move the other way.

Many fans have said Martinez is better than Jesus, with one supporter saying he would complete the deal “in a heartbeat”.

Here’s how some fans have reacted to the latest reports…

Is time finally up for Manchester United’s metronome Nemanja Matic?

When Manchester United signed Nemanja Matic for £40m in the summer of 2017 there was hardly a river of tears shed by the Chelsea faithful.

Many among the fan-base had long arrived at the conclusion that the Serbian – not exactly known for his mobility anyway – was on the decline while the securement of Danny Drinkwater from Leicester and Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco offered a new and bright direction for the Blues’ midfield.

Perhaps the less said about that the better.

Their point on Matic stood, however, so there was no little consternation in west London when the then 29-year-old got off to a flyer at Old Trafford, patrolling the central area; in the words of one tabloid ‘having a blinder’ on his home debut. Perhaps being reunited with Jose Mourinho was the key in unlocking the past form of a player who was once a Premier League powerhouse? Perhaps Matic was a long way from being finished after all?

Fast forward 15 months to November 2018 and another disappointing league performance led to talkSPORT offering this damning assessment: “The penny has finally dropped for Manchester United fans: there was a reason why Chelsea gave them Nemanja Matic.”

In between that promising beginning and running – slowly – past that judgement that is akin to being written off the tall, two-time title winner made 63 starts in 76 league games for the Reds. He was a near constant presence as United stumbled and toiled under Mourinho, a flailing state that eventually led to the Portuguese coach’s acrimonious departure last year. Was his diminishing reputation then an unfair extension of being too closely associated with Mourinho’s underwhelming outfit? Or were his lumbering performances a sizeable reason United underwhelmed in the first place?

That remains subjective but what we know for sure is that this season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the wheel, Matic has been very much a peripheral figure. He has played just 160 minutes of top flight action. He is quite evidently not a Solskjaer man.

And this despite the persistent injury problems of Paul Pogba, and despite too the initial risk in throwing in the relatively inexperienced Scott McTominay in his place. This season United have lurched from mini-crisis to mini-crisis so who better to turn to in order to steady the ship than a player who has been there and done it? Instead Solskjaer has relied on a 22-year-old with just 42 professional outings to his name.

This suggests that Matic’s future in Manchester could well have an end in sight and that reasoning is strengthened by recent reports intimating that a move is imminent. A rumoured switch to Inter appears to be off the table now but that still leaves numerous clubs who would be happy to benefit from his seasoned savvy and calming influence.

“The coach is the man who picks the team and when you are on the bench you are not happy,” the midfielder said last month, further fanning the flames.

Should Matic indeed leave how will he be remembered? It is hoped the colossus who bestrode the Stamford Bridge centre-circle for many a season comes to mind but balancing out that will be this undeniable truth: Chelsea fans were right, in the end.

Leeds fans panicking over Eddie Nketiah’s future after Marcelo Bielsa’s comments

We might now have officially reached ‘panic stations’ amongst the Leeds United fan base.

The Patrick Bamford v Eddie Nketiah debate really kicked up another notch this week after the latter’s late equaliser against Preston North End but by the sounds of it, it doesn’t look as if boss Marcelo Bielsa is ready to make that change just yet.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of their game with Sheffield Wednesday, Bielsa revealed that Bamford would indeed be starting yet again for the Whites, and that didn’t sit well with the supporters.

With Championship rivals Bristol City pushing for him to be recalled by parent club Arsenal and sent to them on loan, fans fear that more minutes on the bench for Nketiah is just going to push him further and further towards Ashton Gate.

Indeed City boss Lee Johnson confirmed earlier this week that they would be interested in looking at January if ‘the situation changes’, likely referring to whether or not Nketiah will stay at Elland Road.

And many Leeds fans thought that this was likely to be one more nail in the coffin of Nketiah’s time in Yorkshire, with some already predicting that he’s going to come back and bite them later in the season.

Tottenham targets Youcef Atal and Paulo Dybala are not what the club need

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to The Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are targeting January moves for Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala and Nice’s Youcef Atal, but if they get them they would be making an unforgivable transfer blunder.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Daily Star says that manager Mauricio Pochettino is ready to talk with chairman Daniel Levy about a major January shake-up in north London, with Eric Dier, Serge Aurier and Victor Wanyama among those at risk, while they are ready to listen to offers for Christian Eriksen.

The same report states that Pochettino is pushing for the north London outfit to renew their interest in Dybala after a summer move fell through due to image rights issues, and Atal.

However, they would be making a mistake if they did get the duo.

Why’s that?

Firstly, it has been clear to see that Tottenham’s biggest issue this season has been their failure to keep the ball out of their own net, conceding 12 times in eight Premier League fixtures and nine times in two Champions League matches.

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

That includes 10 in the last two against Brighton and Hove Albion and Bayern Munich, where a lack of a quality defensive midfielder protecting the defence and below-par performances from the backline have often left Spurs in trouble.

You may think that signing Atal, whose main position is listed as a right-back by Transfermarkt, would potentially solve one of those issues with Serge Aurier seen as a liability by fans, but in fact he has actually mainly been playing as either a right wing-back or right winger for Nice so far this term, according to his positions in those games recorded by Transfermarkt.

That indicates his manager Patrick Vieira doesn’t believe he is the out-and-out good defender and suggests he isn’t the reliable player the north London club look to be in desperate need of. In that regard he could be similar to the Ivory Coast international, who shone from an attacking sense against Crystal Palace but was sent off for two bookings in the first half against Southampton.

Meanwhile, while it would be difficult to say that Tottenham need Dybala when they already have Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela, Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Lucas Moura in the attacking positions, perhaps most worrying of all would be his attitude.

The Argentina international has come out and suggested he never wanted to join Tottenham in the summer according to Corriere della Sera, via The Daily Mail, and having him in their ranks would be the last thing they need when they are already dealing with someone like Christian Eriksen, who also appears intent on going as his contract runs down.

It would be unforgivable if they get both players then, and they really must avoid them instead if they really want to start turning things around for the better from the New Year onwards.

Aston Villa fans criticise Wesley after Burnley draw

[ad_pod ]

Aston Villa fans criticised striker Wesley after another goalless performance on Saturday.

Dean Smith’s men drew 2-2 with Burnley at Villa Park, with Anwar El Ghazi and John McGinn on the scoresheet.

Villa paid a club-record fee for Wesley in the summer, spending more than £18m on the striker.

However, he has scored twice in seven games thus far and was particularly absent against Sean Dyche’s men.

Per WhoScored, he failed to have a single shot on goal and touched the ball a mere 18 times throughout his time on the pitch.

And some fans have called for him to be dropped; 21-year-old Keinan Davis has been suggested as a potential alternative by a certain section of supporters.

He has just 41 minutes of Premier League football to his name this season but has made a total of 49 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and registering five assists.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Manchester United: Fans want Robin van Persie back

Last night saw a squad of Manchester City legends take on a squad containing some of the Premier League’s greatest ever players for Vincent Kompany’s testimonial match at the Etihad.

Among the players to take to the field were Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Jamie Carragher and Robin van Persie. The game ended 2-2 thanks to a last-minute equaliser from former Cityzens front man Benjani. Indeed, he even did that famous celebration afterwards, just for the fans.

50,000 people packed out City’s home ground last night and it was a great spectacle all around. The highlight of the evening, however, was certainly Robin van Persie’s goal in the second-half.

The Dutch forward, who famously turned out for Arsenal and Manchester United during his career in the Premier League, effortlessly curled the ball past Joe Hart with that trademark left foot.

The 36-year-old’s finish has expectedly been doing the rounds on social media today, with United fan page @UtdXtra posting the video to their 315,000-strong follower base last night.

Here are some of the replies from United supporters, who clearly wouldn’t mind it if the former Netherlands international returned to Old Trafford this season…

Everton’s Fabian Delph described by Ian Holloway as the signing of the summer

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Ian Holloway has heaped significant praise on Everton’s signing of Fabian Delph whilst suggesting he would have been perfect for Arsenal.

What did he say?

Delph signed for The Toffees for just £10m in what some may view as a bargain signing with the midfielder having 20 England caps under his belt, as well as captaining the national team on occasion.

In response to Granit Xhaka’s performance against Tottenham, in which he picked up his 39th yellow card for the Gunners and gave away his fifth penalty since joining, the former QPR boss suggested Arsenal would have been better off signing Delph.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “Well for me I’m looking at what I think who is probably the signing of the season for Everton in Fabian Delph.

“If Arsenal had Fabian Delph playing the way he did yesterday for Everton, do you see what I’m saying?”

The former Manchester City midfielder started for the first time for his new club against Wolves, but he didn’t take long to influence the team, getting Everton back to winning ways in the league in a performance which pleased his manager.

Becoming the key man again

Delph has had a tough few years at the Citizens. Many of his four years there were plagued by injury and due to the ability in the squad he saw his game-time limited, and was often played out of position when he did feature.

Prior to his spell in Manchester, the 29-year-old had played his way into the England squad by becoming a pivotal player for Aston Villa, and it is that role he will likely look to recreate at Everton.

Against Wolves the midfielder enjoyed the second-highest pass accuracy of any player on the pitch who made more than ten passes, other than Seamus Coleman, and he kept the Everton midfield ticking whilst providing energy to the team going forward.

In typical Delph fashion he was also just as useful in defence, making four tackles, two interceptions and two clearances, underlining how effective he will be as a box-to-box midfielder this season.

If he can stay fit he should be able to rediscover his best form and act as the midfield anchor which will allow Everton’s creative players more freedom, as Holloway suggests.
