Two men with England caps to their name met in Spanish top-flight action back on February 1. Their paths crossed at various points during that encounter, with Bellingham putting in one particularly full-blooded challenge on Greenwood.

He was caught on camera mouthing something after making that tackle, with the incident reported by Getafe amid allegations of Bellingham calling Greenwood a “rapist”. As part of the subsequent investigation, La Liga drafted in a lip-reading expert.

DID YOU KNOW?

According to the case in question has been dropped – meaning that no disciplinary action will be taken – as it is impossible to determine with 100 per cent accuracy whether Bellingham said “rapist” or “rubbish”. Manchester United-owned Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour in January 2022, but saw those charges dropped in February 2023.

Bellingham and Greenwood are now free to focus on their football once more. Greenwood is expected to complete a permanent transfer away from Old Trafford this summer, while Bellingham – who has registered 20 goals during his debut campaign at Santiago Bernabeu – is about to serve a domestic ban for the red card that he collected after the final whistle had blown in a controversial clash with Valencia.

Australia and Pakistan to play tri-series in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe will combine tours of Australia and Pakistan into a T20I triangular series, followed by five ODIs against Pakistan

Zimbabwe Cricket, still reeling from their inability to qualify for the World Cup and the sacking of the organisation’s entire coaching staff, will host Australia and Pakistan in July for a T20I triangular tournament and then Pakistan for five ODIs. Neither country will play a Test in Zimbabwe, although the FTP had Australia pencilled in for one Test and Pakistan for two, further underlining ZC’s desire to restructure and avoid costly home Tests.”Playing two of the game’s biggest teams will provide us with a very welcome litmus test as we forge ahead with our plans to develop a stronger Zimbabwe side capable of consistently competing and winning against the best,” Faisal Hasnain, ZC MD said. But ZC’s plans appear, at best, hazy. After hosting West Indies for two Tests in October last year, ZC strongly indicated it would consider playing less longer-format cricket at home, given the costs and the fact that Zimbabwe is not part of the new Test Championship. Instead, it focused its energy on 50-over cricket, in the hopes of qualifying for the 2019 World Cup. Failure to do that has left Zimbabwe Cricket in limbo, which came to a head when all coaching staff – from national coach Heath Streak to under-19 coach Stephen Mangongo – were fired. Graeme Cremer lost the captaincy and Tatenda Taibu was relieved of his duties as convener of selectors as well.ZC held a press conference on Tuesday to outline its plans for the resumption of domestic cricket – the 2018-19 season was not concluded as World Cup qualifier preparations began earlier this year – as well as plans for an academy. But the issue of coaching staff was not on the agenda. They would need to attend to the allocation of backroom staff with haste if Zimbabwe are to play international cricket again three months’ time. The prospect of the tours of Australia and Pakistan being curtailed has been looming large for months given the financial state of Zimbabwean cricket, and matters came to a head with the country’s failure to qualify for the 2019 World Cup set to hit them hard in the pocket. In February, there was doubt over the fate of Pakistan’s tour to the country, with ZC’s managing director Faisal Hasnain saying as much.”Finances may not allow the [Pakistan] series to go ahead because we don’t get a lot from our TV contract, and the series ends up – the production costs result in huge losses,” Faisal Hasnain, ZC’s managing director had told “Given our current cash situation, in order to balance our books, we may actually have to either renegotiate the format or we may have to postpone it until such time as we are ready to play.”

Footitt joins Derbyshire on loan deal

Mark Footitt has been loaned to Derbyshire after failing to break into Nottinghamshire’s all-England attack in the early rounds of the Championship

David Hopps02-May-2018Nottinghamshire’s left-arm fast bowler Mark Footitt has joined Derbyshire on an initial 28-day loan deal where he will be available to play Specsavers County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup cricket. The 32-year-old, who spent six seasons with Derbyshire between 2010 and 2015, is earmarked for two four-day matches and five 50-over games, starting against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on Thursday.”Mark’s pre-season has been affected by injury and we feel it’s a good opportunity for him to get out there and get some cricket under his belt,” said Nottinghamshire’d director of cricket Mick Newell.”Our pace attack has started the season in fine form and Mark has found himself short of game time so far. Hopefully he can get some overs under his belt and come back ready to go when the season ramps up from June onwards.”The move suits Derbyshire who have fielded a high-class pace attack this season in three bowlers with international experience – Duanne Olivier, Ravi Rampaul and Hardus Viljoen – but who have limited stocks in reserve and fear the danger of overbowling their prize assets as a conequence.Derbyshire’s cricket advisor, Kim Barnett, said: “We’re grateful to Nottinghamshire and Peter Moores for allowing Mark to join us for this busy period, and I’m sure this arrangement will be good for all parties.”This move for Footitt is not as angst-ridden as the last, involving just a few miles up the A52. He admitted that a weight had been lifted from his shoulders when Surrey gave him permission to return to Nottinghamshire in the middle of last season on a two-and-a-half year deal. The strain of hotel living, away from his fiancé and daughter in London had become too much.Footitt has travelled this way before. He first joined Derbyshire in 2009 after Nottinghamshire released him from his contract as injuries bedevilled his early career. He became a firm favourite at Derbyshire, taking 82 County Championship wickets in 2014. He moved south to Surrey, fired by England ambitions, and came close to a Test debut when he was chosen for the South Africa tour of 2015/16 but never played.

Nottingham Forest Favourites To Sign £180k-p/w "Monster"

Nottingham Forest have appeared as the frontrunners to sign Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer, but they aren’t the only club interested in the Premier League.

How old is Callum Hudson-Odoi?

Hudson-Odoi is 22 years of age so should be playing football on a regular basis and entering some of the prime stages of his career, but that’s not the case because his future is extremely uncertain having been sent out on an unsuccessful loan to Bayer Leverkusen last season.

England’s former international’s contract is also set to expire in less than a year meaning that this window is Mauricio Pochettino’s ideal opportunity to cash in, something which looks likely considering he’s told chiefs that he wants to leave, whilst being yet to communicate with his manager since taking to the dugout.

The Blues’ left-winger already holds an existing connection to Steve Cooper having worked under him during his time with the Three Lions’ U17s, and The Evening Standard recently reported that the Reds had entered the running to sign him, alongside Everton and Fulham.

The Cottagers were believed to be leading the race, but with that move having since collapsed, the contest has really opened up, giving his other potential suitors a chance to swoop him, and there’s a possibility that he could be on his way to The City Ground.

Are Nottingham Forest signing Callum Hudson-Odoi?

According to TEAMtalk, Nottingham Forest are "emerging as favourites" to sign Hudson-Odoi, with Chelsea "open" to sanctioning his sale before the end of the window.

With Fulham and now also Everton's move for the attacker having "stalled", this leaves the "path clear" for Cooper to form a reunion with his ex-international starlet.

The Stamford Bridge academy product also had his brother, who is his agent, as an "interested observer" watching on from the stands at last week's match vs Sheffield United, further sparking speculation that he could be joining in the coming weeks.

Bayer Leverkusen's former loan forward Callum Hudson-Odoi.

How good is Callum Hudson-Odoi?

Nottingham Forest will know that Hudson-Odoi hasn’t been given a fair chance to prove what he’s capable of at Chelsea, but Cooper will know just how much potential he has to offer having previously been dubbed a “monster of a talent” by journalist Nizaar Kinsella, and he could the perfect manager to restart his career.

The Wandsworth-born talent has posted 89 goal contributions (48 goals and 41 assists) in 208 appearances since bursting onto the scene and could provide the boss with excellent versatility with his ability to operate everywhere across the frontline, alongside three roles in the midfield, as per Transfermarkt, making him a great option to have available should any unexpected injuries occur.

Pochettino’s £180k-per-week earner also knows what it takes to compete and be successful having helped to win five senior trophies for his boyhood club, including the likes of the Champions League, Europa League and the FIFA Club World Cup, so he could bring a much-needed winning mentality to the Midlands to achieve a place as high as possible in the table this season.

Fabrizio Romano Shares Exciting Man United Transfer News

Manchester United are still active in the transfer market with only a few weeks left to secure new signings and now a fresh update has emerged from a reliable source on a potential target.

Who are Man United trying to sign?

According to Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Man United have "contacted" Bayern Munich regarding their interest in singing one of their players.

Romano revealed on Twitter this weekend:

"Understand Manchester United have contacted Bayern for Benjamin Pavard deal.

"There’s still no green light from Bayern. But Pavard intention is clear: he wants to leave and try new chapter.

"Pavard won’t sign new deal at Bayern and current one expires in June 2024."

The journalist then followed up his tweet on Sunday morning revealing:

"Bayern rejected United's first approach for Benjamin Pavard…but Man United remain there as Benji Pavard wants the move. He won’t sign new deal at Bayern and insists to leave."

How good is Benjamin Pavard?

Erik ten Hag is clearly still keen to bolster his defensive presence after securing a deal for new goalkeeper Andre Onana already and with £80m Harry Maguire's future hanging in the balance it could become a necessity to add depth in the remaining weeks of the window.

West Ham United are keen to sign the former Red Devils captain this summer and have already agreed a £30m deal, however, the Hammers are still working on convincing Maguire to make the move to East London.

As a result, the signing of Pavard – who has a reported £30m price tag himself – would be a great piece of business for Ten Hag as the Bayern defender has the quality to provide strong competition and rotation in Man United's back-line, as well as being the perfect profile of player to become the Dutch coach's next Jurrien Timber.

benjamin-pavard-transfer-news-premier-league-man-united

The talented Frenchman is one of the most highly-rated ball-playing defenders across the top five European leagues – ranking in the top 8% of his positional peers for non-penalty goals, shots in total, shot-creating actions, progressive passes, progressive carries, touches and tackles per 90 minutes played, as per FBref.

When comparing Pavard's output to Timber's last season, the Bundesliga titan came close to Ten Hag's former Ajax talisman in a number of key attributes, including pass completion (88.3% v 91.6%), shot-creating actions per 90 (1.67 v 1.72), percentage of dribblers tackled (75% v 74.1%) and comfortably outperformed him in aerial duels won (66% v 47.4%).

It's not just their qualities in possession that stand out, with both possessing the luxury of versatility. Indeed, while Pavard can play at right-back and centre-back, Timber was and still is a player who possesses the tools to occupy the same positions on the pitch.

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has waxed lyrical about Pavard's defensive strengths and that famed versatility in the past, with the France international capable of adapting his positioning to many roles on the pitch:

"He is an underrated player. He can adapt to the highest level and he defends rigorously. He is a top team player, he immediately had my confidence and proved to me that I had been right."

Not only that, the 27-year-old possesses a strong winning mentality that would be a major asset to Man United in their pursuit to reignite their previous dominance and trophy success, with Pavard collecting a World Cup with France, four Bundesliga titles, one Champions League trophy and two German Super Cups over his career so far.

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer for Man United to secure the services of Timber this summer as he fits the exact profile of defender that Ten Hag desires and would suit the style of play at Old Trafford perfectly. Timber 2.0 anyone?

76 y/o Roy Hodgson Squares Up To Rival In Crystal Palace Win

Footage has emerged of Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson in a touchline confrontation with an opposition player during his team’s most recent match.

What’s the latest on Crystal Palace and Roy Hodgson?

Premier League football is back upon us with the 2022/23 season kicking off this season and it has already delivered an Erling Haaland goalscoring clinic, a Bukayo Saka beauty, and much much more.

However, for all the champagne football and poetry in motion, true football fans always love a little bit of argy-bargy and that’s exactly what we got as Palace travelled away to Sheffield United for their first league match of the new campaign.

Playing at Bramall Lane – with the Blades promoted from the Championship last term – the Eagles managed to pick up a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to a single goal from Odsonne Edouard, which he scored in the 49th minute of the match.

Understandably desperate to cling onto their lead as the minutes dragged on, Hodgson – who turned 76 years old this week – did all he could to help his team pick up the points with a touchline tussle on the hour mark.

And this was beautifully captured in the footage being circulated on Twitter and on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel – which you can see below.

As the ball runs out of play, the former England manager stops it with his foot. Sheffield United defender Max Lowe, who is 26, is first on the scene and ends up in an aggressive confrontation with Hodgson who refused to let him pick the ball up and get on with play.

Crystal Palace podcast host Dan Cook, also known as HLTCO, best summed up the incident on Twitter, saying: “Turned 76 this week and still backing himself against someone 50 years his junior. Don Roy.”

Discussing the incident with talkSPORT after the game, Hodgson said: “I don’t think he meant to catch me, chasing the ball to the side. We both smiled about it. My first reaction of course when I received the blow was complain. But I think it was a pure accident, it was nothing.”

Is Roy Hodgson staying at Crystal Palace?

Hodgson only returned back at Palace last season in March – two years after leaving – to help guide the club to safety after things had taken a turn for the worse under Patrick Vieira.

He did a fine job as he led the Eagles to an 11th-placed finish in the league and has kept his job over the summer, as confirmed by the Selhurst Park outfit in July.

He will remain in charge for the 2023/24 season and seems very up for the job – as evidenced by the footage above.

On being confirmed in his current role, he said in a statement shared on the Crystal Palace website: “I am immensely pleased and proud to be extending my time at Crystal Palace, and I would like to thank the Chairman and Sporting Director for their continued faith in me.

“I know what a fantastic squad we have here. It’s a great blend of youth and potential, alongside experienced players with Premier League and international pedigree.

“I have spoken with the Chairman at length and we agreed that we must be ambitious in getting the most out of such talent. As such, we have set ourselves the target of a top-half finish, which we believe is eminently achievable with such a fabulous group of players and the most magnificent supporters who get behind the team, week in, week out.”

Dai leads Papua New Guinea to second on WCL points table

A five-wicket victory over Scotland in Port Moresby meant they are only two points behind Netherlands

Papua New Guinea have moved up to second place on the World Cricket League points table on the back of beating Scotland by five wickets in Port Moresby. Bouncing back in fine style, with Mahuru Dai’s 63 off 54 balls, they chased the target of 204 with two overs and five wickets to spare. The small target was helpful considering only one of the top five could move past 25. Captain Assad Vala had taken the score to 130 for 5 before handing the reins over to Dai, who came in during the 31st over, and went on a boundary-hitting spree. He struck 10 fours, which accounted for 63% of his runs, and ensured Scotland’s bowlers, despite the work they put in to push the chase to the 48th over, were defeated.A much larger portion of the blame fell on the batsmen, which would have been doubly disappointing considering Scotland had won the toss. Matthew Cross made 91 off 120 balls – accounting for nearly half of his team’s total – as his team-mates fell in a heap around him. The next highest score was 22.

Chelsea: £88.5m Signing Proves Key Trait in Pre-Season

To say that Mykhailo Mudryk didn’t exactly have the best start to life in a Chelsea shirt last season would be quite the understatement.Arriving for a reported £88.5m, whilst still a young player, he was expected to turn the Blues’ fortunes around. Instead, however, nothing changed, apart from the lower amount left in the transfer budget at Stamford Bridge as he failed to score a goal in his first 17 outings. In truth, though, it was always going to be difficult for Mudryk to hit the ground running mid-season in a dressing room overfilled and under-motivated under Graham Potter, and then Frank Lampard. With Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival, the Blues have at least made space in the dressing room, waving goodbye to a total of 16 players so far this summer, and welcoming just four new signings. As the chaos is slowly but surely organised, Mudryk has the chance to get a good pre-season under his belt, and, as a result, find his best form. If Chelsea’s friendly against Brighton & Hove Albion is anything to go by, too, he is nearing his best with every game.

Mykhailo Mudryk impresses against Brighton

Taking on Roberto de Zerbi’s Brighton side, Chelsea came out on top, winning 4-3 in a back-and-forth affair.

Initially taking the lead through Danny Welbeck, the Seagulls were soon hit with a four-goal reply, as Christopher Nkunku found the back of the net, before Mudryk scored his first goal for the club, and strikes from Conor Gallagher and summer arrival Nicolas Jackson followed.

Brighton threatened to complete a comeback when Joao Pedro scored from the spot, before Deniz Undav slotted past Kepa Arrizablaga, but it wasn’t enough as Chelsea secured the win.

One particularly impressive moment from Mudryk came with his incredible show of pace – as shown in the footage above. The winger looked to have knocked the ball too far down the line at first, before somehow turning on the afterburners, and catching the ball with relative ease. The change of pace led to his teammate, Angelo Gabriel, labelling him “Naruto” and “very fast” on his Instagram story.

Whilst we haven’t seen his pace very often in the Premier League, it should not come as any surprise, considering the fact that Mudryk was one of the Champions League’s fastest players last season, coming in at second in the competition (only behind Alphonso Davies) with a speed of 36.6 KM/H.

Mudryk’s goal was also impressive, too, as he struck on the volley from range.

What is the market value of Mykhailo Mudryk?

Arriving at Stamford Bridge for a reported £88.5m in January, Mudryk’s struggle for form has seen his transfer value decrease in the last seven months. According to Transfermarkt, the Ukraine international is now worth €50m (£43.20m), which is less than half the amount that Chelsea initially paid for his signature back in January.

Pochettino will be hoping to see the Ukrainian finally live up to that price tag next season, however, as he looks to take the London club back into the Premier League’s top four at the first time of asking.

Even though it was only a pre-season game, defeating Brighton would have handed Chelsea quite the boost ahead of the season. It’s the type of confidence they can take into their opening-day clash against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

If they can defeat Jurgen Klopp’s side in their first game, too, then they may just enjoy an unexpectedly quick start to the new campaign.

Celtic: Rodgers Can Find Lethal Abada Partner In Move For 26 y/o Whiz

Brendan Rodgers returned to Parkhead for a second spell last month to replace Ange Postecoglou as Celtic manager and has been backed by the board during the summer transfer window.

Who have Celtic signed this summer?

The Hoops officially confirmed the signing of Polish central defender Maik Nawrocki on a five-year deal from Legia Warsaw on Wednesday, which has made him the fifth arrival so far.

Australia international Marco Tilio, Norwegian midfielder Odin Thiago Holm, and South Korean duo Hyun-jun Yang and Kyeok-kyu Kwon have also joined the Scottish giants ahead of the 2023/24 Scottish Premiership campaign.

However, that may not be the end of their business as Rodgers may look to strengthen his side further before the deadline passes, which is in over a month's time.

One ambitious target the Bhoys have been linked with a possible swoop for is Manchester United central midfielder Donny van de Beek, who is also being eyed up by the likes of Milan, Sevilla, and Crystal Palace, among others.

How good is Donny van de Beek?

The Netherlands international has struggled during his time in England with the Red Devils but his Ajax form indicates that the quality is there for him to be a terrific signing for the Hoops to partner Liel Abada in attack.

Van de Beek has only started 11 Premier League matches in three years since his move to Old Trafford in 2020, which included a loan spell with Everton at the start of 2022.

Prior to that, the 26-year-old whiz, who former Scotland defender Alan Hutton recently claimed would be an "outstanding" signing for Celtic, produced 41 goals and 34 assists in 175 first-team outings for Ajax from a central or attacking midfield position.

The Dutch gem could be a brilliant fit for the number ten role in Rodgers' 4-2-3-1 system, which would see Abada line up alongside him as part of the trident of midfielders behind Kyogo Furuhashi.

Celtic winger Liel Abada.

Celtic's Israel international was one of the team's top performers last season.

He plundered ten goals in 13 Premiership starts, alongside 21 appearances as a substitute, and ended the campaign as the club's third-top scorer – only behind Jota (11) and Kyogo (27).

Abada also created ten 'big chances' for his teammates and was only rewarded with five assists, which suggests that the other attackers within the squad failed to make the most of his creativity.

Van de Beek, however, could come in and provide the 21-year-old wizard with a reliable scorer alongside him in the attacking midfield positions to finish off the opportunities that he creates.

The former Ajax star scored 28 goals across his last three Eredivisie seasons, which works out at around nine goals per league term.

This could make him an upgrade on Celtic's current options in that position if he is able to translate that form over to Scotland as no central midfielder managed more than six Premiership strikes.

Van de Beek also created 1.8 chances per game during his final league term with Ajax in 2019/20, which only Matt O'Riley (2.1) and Jota (1.9) outperformed for the Hoops throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

Therefore, Abada and the Manchester United man could form a lethal partnership as part of Rodgers' three attackers behind Kyogo due to their respective ability to score and assist goals on a regular basis.

Of course, there is a question mark over whether van de Beek can return to the form he showcased at Ajax but his impressive statistics in his home country suggest that is a gamble worth taking.
