WHAT HAPPENED?
According to Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Nunez is at the top of Napoli boss Antonio Conte's 'wish-list' but Liverpool's price tag and the forward's wage demands may scupper a deal. Moreover, they are reportedly pursuing Udinese's Lorenzo Lucca, and if they push through that move, Nunez could be surplus to requirements.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Uruguay international has gone from being an important player at Liverpool to very much a fringe option, whom they nearly sold in January. The 25-year-old is reportedly valued at around €60 million (£51m/$69m), and that may put pay to a Napoli move, despite him being keen on a switch to the Serie A champions.
DID YOU KNOW?
Nunez, who only scored five goals in 30 Premier League appearances this season, has also been credited with interest from Atletico Madrid and AC Milan but seems to not be keen on Saudi Pro League offers.

Former Benfica attacker Nunez, whose Anfield contract runs until 2028, may have played his last game for Liverpool, with the Reds seemingly keen on a new number nine. It remains to be seen where Nunez's future lies.

No rebote, o camisa 21 estufou a rede.

The death overs was where this game came to life and Kings scoring 96 off their last five made a big difference

Moody: Arshdeep a threat in the powerplay and at the death
Punjab Kings’ innings was going nowhere. After 14 overs, they were 105 for 4 with Harpreet Singh Bhatia batting on 15 off 16 and Sam Curran on 8 off 12. But in the next six overs, they ransacked 109. Bhatia ended with 41 off 28, Curran 55 off 29, and Jitesh Sharma 25 off just seven. That lifted Kings to a formidable 214 for 8.In response, Mumbai Indians were always in the contest, thanks to Rohit Sharma’s 27-ball 44 and Cameron Green’s 43-ball 67. Suryakumar Yadav then threatened to snatch the game from Kings with his blazing half-century. That’s when Arshdeep Singh rose to the occasion. He dismissed Suryakumar in the 18th over, and then with 16 required from six balls, he conceded just two while breaking the middle stumps of Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera with back-to-back deliveries. The 13-run win took Kings to fifth position with eight points from seven games. In fact, the top five teams all have eight points each, only the net run rate separating them.Rohit and Green keep Mumbai on trackBefore his heroics at the death, Arshdeep dealt Mumbai an early below by sending back Ishan Kishan in the second over of the chase. Rohit and Green didn’t let that deter them and kept finding boundaries at regular intervals. They hit five fours and three sixes in the powerplay to take Mumbai to 54 for 1 after six overs. The pair added 76 off 50 balls before Rohit spooned a return catch to Liam Livingstone in the tenth over.Green and Suryakumar press on furtherWith Mumbai needing 127 in the last ten overs, Suryakumar didn’t waste any time. He swept his third ball for a four before hitting Livingstone for a hat-trick of fours. It was a typical Suryakumar innings – he hit a 26-ball 57, with 33 of those runs coming behind square on the leg side.At the other end, Green too switched into the next gear. In the 15th over, he hit Rahul Chahar for a six and four, bringing up his half-century in the process and reducing the equation to 66 needed from 30 balls. It was even stevens when the last over started, but Arshdeep Singh made sure the result went his team’s way•BCCIEllis and Arshdeep show their skillsGreen started the 16th over by hitting Nathan Ellis, Kings’ Impact Player, for a four and six. But Ellis had him miscuing a back-of-the-hand slower one, and Curran settled under it near extra cover.Despite that, Mumbai were very much in the contest. In fact, Suryakumar’s six and four off Curran in the 17th over put Mumbai ahead. With 40 needed from the last three overs, Tim David hit Arshdeep’s first ball – a full toss – for a six but the bowler conceded only three off the remaining five balls. One of those balls also took out Suryakumar. It was a low full toss that the batter flicked towards midwicket, where Atharva Taide leapt to his left to pluck the ball.David still threatened to pull it off for Mumbai. In the penultimate over, he hit an Ellis full toss for a 114-metre six but apart from that, he struggled to middle the ball. In the final over, he took a single on Arshdeep’s first ball, and then spent the rest of the over at the non-striker’s end watching a death-bowling masterclass.Prabhsimran, Taide revive the powerplayEarlier, Kings had a quiet start after being sent in. Matthew Short tried to take on Green in the third over, flicking him over square leg for four. He eyed another boundary on the next ball, but his attempted pull failed to clear Piyush Chawla at short midwicket. After three overs, Kings were 20 for 1. The next three, however, produced 38. Jason Behrendorff bowled a couple of short balls in the fourth, and Prabhsimran Singh duly dispatched them over the short square-leg boundary. From the other end, Taide ramped Jofra Archer for his first six.Rohit introduced Chawla in the sixth over, and the two batters picked up a boundary each off him as well to lift Kings to 58 for 1 by the end of the powerplay.Tendulkar, Chawla drag Kings backIt was a bit of a surprise when Arjun Tendulkar, who swung the new ball, was taken off after just one over. When he came back for his second, in the seventh of the innings, he had Prabhsimran lbw with an excellent yorker, the ball sneaking underneath the bat to hit the back shoe.Chawla hurt Kings further with his double-strike in the tenth over. First, seeing Livingstone come down the track, he slipped one down the leg side to have him stumped. Three balls later, he beat Taide on the sweep. The ball hit the pad and went on to disturb the stumps. That left Kings 83 for 4 after ten overs. The calm, followed by the carnageBhatia and Curran consolidated for a while, scoring only 22 from the next four overs. But then came the acceleration, and how. Hrithik Shokeen’s 13-run over, the 15th of the innings, was a bad omen for Mumbai. But instead of bringing back Chawla, who had figures of 2 for 15 from three overs, Rohit went ahead with Tendulkar. Curran and Bhatia smashed him for four fours and two sixes, taking 31 from the over that also featured a wide and beamer. Two overs later, Green came in for the punishment. Curran started it with two successive sixes. After a single on the third, Green dismissed Bhatia, but Jitesh launched him for two more maximums to make it 25 from the over.Curran brought up his fifty, off 26 balls, with a four off Archer before getting out in the same over. Jitesh wasn’t done yet, though. He hit two more sixes in the final over, bowled by Behrendorff, to take Kings to what proved to be just the winning total.
Leeds United have now been handed a boost ahead of their summer transfer business after the stance of one of their transfer targets became clear, with pressure now on to be in the Premier League next season to ensure that they land their man.
Leeds on course for Premier League
With just 14 games left of the season, Leeds United lead the way in the Championship. Daniel Farke’s side sit two points clear of Sheffield United, while they have a five point cushion to Burnley in third place, meaning that automatic promotion is firmly in their grasp.
It is a make-or-break fortnight for Leeds too. They face fourth placed Sunderland next before traveling to Sheffield United in a titanic tussle for top spot at the end of February, a game that could effectively seal them as title winners or send them back towards the chasing pack and leave them in danger of slipping into a play off spot for a second successive season.

However, having scored by far the most goals in the division this season, Leeds remain most people’s favourites to be promoted, and after a 4-0 thrashing of Watford Hornets boss Tom Cleverley even dubbed them “one of the best” Championship sides he’d ever seen.
“We were in the presence of a very strong Championship side. It is one of the best teams I have seen at this level,” he told reporters.
Now, it has emerged that confidence that Leeds will be promoted come the end of the campaign is shared even by some of their transfer targets.
Midfield target thinks Leeds will be promoted
That comes according to a report from Caught Offside, who relay quotes from Leeds target Eduard Spertsyan suggesting that a move to Leeds could be on the cards this summer.
Leeds were thought to hold a January interest in the no.10, who currently plays for Russian outfit Krasnodar, where he has grabbed six goals and three assists so far this season.

However, no move materialised, with suggestions that Leeds were priced out of a move for the Armenian international. Despite this, the attacking midfielder has left the door open to a future move to Elland Road, adding that he is keen to leave his current club.
“Why not?,” Spertsyan revealed when asked if he would consider a move to Leeds in the future. “They will most likely get into the Premier League, they are in first place.
“Yes, I want to leave, but I can’t leave the club [in the winter]. For them to let me go in the winter, the offer must be very good, and the club must have a great desire to sign me. This winter, that’s exactly what didn’t happen.”
The report adds that the midfielder, who was described as “special” by Ajax sporting director Sven Mislintat after they failed to sign him, is valued at £17 million, something that Leeds may only be able to afford should they secure promotion back to the top flight.
After missing out on Cameron Archer in January, Spertsyan could be the perfect alternative for Farke’s side.
What a rise to the top it has been for Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo. Although he is out injured at the moment, the Stockport-born midfield sensation has become a key player for his boyhood club so far, under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.
He has already made an impressive number of first-team appearances in that famous Red shirt. Mainoo has featured 60 times for United so far, scoring six goals and grabbing two assists from midfield in that time.
The 19-year-old rose to superstardom last season when he made his first Premier League start against Everton and completely ran the show in midfield.
Mainoo’s debut vs Everton
There have been few midfielders players, particularly ones aged just 18, who have made a bigger impression than Mainoo on their first Premier League start. He was thrust into the United midfield after months out injured, and just two appearances for the academy to regain full fitness.
Manchester United midfielder Mainoo.
United fan, analyst, and host of The Overlap: The Breakdown, H, summed up the Englishman’s performance that day. He described the youngster as “elegant” and “relaxed”, calling it a “seriously good performance” on his full debut.
The youngster was so composed that day, showing his impressive ability to carry through the opposition’s press and how hard he worked off the ball. It was an eye-catching and dominant showing from someone who was, in reality, quite inexperienced.
The stats on Sofascore from Mainoo’s full debut show just how well he played. The United number 37 had 61 touches of the ball, completing 83% of his passes. Off the ball, he won an impressive five from eight duels.
Kobbie Mainoo
Sadly, given his injury, Amorim will not have the option of calling upon Mainoo for United’s trip to Goodison Park this weekend. However, he could make the bold decision of starting another exciting young midfielder who could have a similar rise to the top in a United shirt.
The academy midfielder who could start vs. Everton
Amorim had to call upon several young academy stars last weekend against Tottenham Hotspur, due to United’s injury crisis. Only one of those, Chido Obi, got the chance to feature, but there were several exciting talents on the bench.
One of those youngsters was Sekou Kone. The 19-year-old Malian midfielder joined the club over the summer, in a deal that was reportedly worth £1m. United beat Premier League rivals Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers to the signing.
So far, Kone has not had much of a chance to showcase his ability. Injuries have affected him this term, meaning he has played just six times for the Red Devils academy. However, he is clearly rated highly enough for Amorim to include him on the bench last weekend.
Kone really made waves at the under-17 World Cup for Mali at the end of 2023. He helped his side to a third-place finish, beating Argentina in the third-place playoff match. His stats from the game were extraordinary. As per Sofascore, he won 15 out of 20 duels, created three chances, and registered an assist.

With that in mind, it is perhaps unsurprising that football scout Antonio Mango thinks Kone could “be a beast”. He ran the midfield in the under-17 World Cup, and perhaps he deserves the chance against Everton, to show what he can do in senior football.
One man who Kone could replace in the middle of the park is Casemiro. The experienced Brazilian made his first start of 2025 against Spurs but struggled to impose himself on the game, with the opposition coasting around him at times.
He received a 4/10 post-match rating from The Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst. The United writer said the former Real Madrid star looked “constantly off the pace” against the Lilywhites.
Perhaps taking a punt on Kone is a risk worth taking for Amorim. Casemiro struggled and seems destined to leave the club, with reports at the end of January hinting at a move away from Old Trafford.
The Malian would be an investment to the future, and Goodison Park seems to be the place talented young midfielders break into the United first-team. Perhaps Kone could become the second coming of Mainoo in that sense.
Celtic are now eyeing a loan move for an international defender as an alternative to Kieran Tierney should they fail to re-sign the Arsenal defender this month, according to a new report.
Rodgers: Tierney will return to Celtic
Celtic head coach shared some good news with the club’s fans earlier this week by confirming that Kieran Tierney will be returning to Celtic Park from Arsenal this summer at the latest. Tierney, 27, rose through Celtic’s academy and was a pivotal figure in the team during Rodgers’ first successful stint, before eventually making a £25 million switch to Arsenal in 2019.
He had been widely linked with a return to his boyhood club in recent weeks, and Rodgers has now confirmed it’s happening.
“I think we’re agreed that it will definitely take place in the summer. If we can do it beforehand, then great,” Rodgers told the press on Tuesday.
“I don’t want to speak too much on it with the greatest respect, because he’s not a Celtic player here now with us,” he explained. “But, if we were able to do it, of course, we would like to do that, but that’s out of our control at this moment in time.”
Rodgers also confirmed that fellow left-back Alex Valle’s loan from Barcelona is being cut short: “Alex won’t play again. Sadly, he’s in Barcelona at the moment and he will probably then move on to another team.”
Celtic eyeing Malacia as alternative
With Valle having now left Celtic Park, the Hoops will need to find a new left-back before the transfer window closes on Monday night. Rodgers is clearly hoping that man can be Tierney. However, if it can’t be, the club will have to look elsewhere.
And according to a new report from The Daily Mail, Celtic have listed Manchester United’s Tyrell Malacia as a potential loan option if they fail to land Tierney before the transfer deadline. The Mail claim that United are willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old Dutchman, who has been capped nine times by his country, amid being close to wrapping up a deal Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.
Real Betis, who recently signed United winger Antony on loan, however, are also thought to be interested in Malacia.

Malacia joined United in the summer of 2022, completing a £13 million switch from Dutch side Feyenoord. After a promising start to his career at Old Trafford, he then missed 18 months of action after undergoing knee surgery.
Since returning to fitness in November, the Dutch international has made just five starts in all competitions for Ruben Amorim’s side, and hasn’t played in the Premier League since the Red Devils were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth back in mid-December.
According to a report from the Metro earlier this month, Amorim has told Malacia he is free to leave the club this month.

Liverpool have accepted a loan offer for an “exceptional” young player signed by former manager Jurgen Klopp, according to a new report.
Liverpool prepare for unlikely title clash at Forest
Fresh off the back of thumping Accrington Stanley 4-0 in the FA Cup fourth round over the weekend, Liverpool will travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night as they try and continue their charge towards the Premier League title.
Last season, the game would likely have been a routine three points for the Reds, with Forest having only escaped relegation on the final day of the season.
This term, however, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are a different beast altogether. Not only are they currently third in the Premier League table, level on points with second-placed Arsenal, they are also the only team to have bested Liverpool in the top flight this season, having beaten Arne Slot’s team 1-0 at Anfield back in September.
Ahead of the return fixture on Tuesday, Slot told the press that he expects another difficult game, and insisted that Forest must be considered genuine title contenders.
“If Forest is up there with us, they are definitely a team that are in competition for us,” he said. “They deserve to be treated like this. Look at how they play and their results. It will be a very difficult challenge to get the result. They have already shown how good a team they are.”
Liverpool accept loan bid for Klopp signing
One man who certainly won’t be involved against Forest is young full-back Calvin Ramsay. The Scottish defender spent the first half of the 2024/25 season on loan with Wigan Athletic, but returned to Anfield just after the New Year having made only three league starts for the Tics.
According to The Daily Record, Ramsay is now set to go back out on loan, this time to Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock. The Record report that Liverpool have accepted Kilmarnock’s proposal to sign the 21-year-old for the remainder of the campaign, and that the move is expected to be made official later this week.
Ramsay also had interest from clubs in League One and League Two in England, but Killies boss Derek McInnes, who managed Ramsay as a youngster at Aberdeen, has convinced him to move to Rugby Park.
Calvin Ramsay
Liverpool paid Aberdeen an initial £4.2 million to sign Ramsay in 2022. Since, the youngster has made just two appearances for the Reds – one in the EFL Cup and one in the Champions League. Shortly after the moved to Anfield, former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp heaped praise on Ramsay.
“Everything we heard about him was that he is a fantastic boy. And what a player he is – what he did for Aberdeen last year, absolutely exceptional,” Klopp said.
“In his age group and you know the things we need from a full-back, he is as close as it gets to the things we want and is still a kid. So we really expect a lot from him in the long term.”
