Forest v Newcastle team news: 31 y/o returns to start as Gordon ruled out

A "hugely important" Newcastle United player could start in his side's Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest, according to an update from reliable journalist Keith Downie.

Newcastle injury news

The Magpies are back in action on Saturday evening, making the trip to the City Ground for an important league fixture for both sides.

Eddie Howe's men will still have aspirations of finishing strongly in the European places this season despite a below-par campaign on the whole, and victory over Forest would be another big step in the right direction.

Newcastle midfielder Joelinton.

As has been the norm in 2023/24 to date, however, Newcastle have injury problems to contend with, with a number of key players out of Saturday's match. Joelinton is a long-term absentee, for example, while Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak are also missing, which acts as a big blow. Sandro Tonali is still serving his ten-month suspension for breaching betting rules.

It does look as though some positive injury news has now emerged for the Magpies, however, giving the supporters a real boost ahead of the trip to Nottingham.

Callum Wilson could start for Newcastle

Writing on X, Downie provided an update on several players and said that Callum Wilson could start for Newcastle against Forest, having only featured once since the turn of the year.

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson.

"Anthony Gordon & Alexander Isak both missing for Newcastle tomorrow. (neither injury are as serious as first feared). Callum Wilson is in line to come in and start through the middle. Hope is Joe Willock will be ready to return by the end of February."

This is fantastic news for Newcastle, especially with Isak ruled out, with Wilson someone who can provide match-winning quality in the final third. The Englishman's season has been disrupted by injury, which has been frustrating, but having him back for a sustained period could be such a boost to the Magpies' European hopes.

Howe himself has made it clear how highly he rates his striker, waxing lyrical over him during the 2022/23 season, saying:

"He’s a hugely important part of our team, a focal point. We rely not just on his goals but his movement, his work rate. His appearance in the team gave us confidence."

Wilson may only have managed seven Premier League starts this season, but he has also scored seven goals in that time, highlighting how prolific he remains. At 31, age isn't necessarily on his side when looking at the long-term picture, but he is going to be a vital figure between now and the end of the season as injuries continue to bite.

No Turner, “outstanding” gem starts in Forest's predicted XI v Newcastle

Nuno Espirito Santo will make plenty of changes this weekend.

ByTom Lever Feb 9, 2024

Newcastle could find Forest tough to break down on Saturday evening, so it may require a moment of magic or a ruthless finish to find the net. This is where Wilson is such an important player for the Magpies, and it would be just like him to score on his first start in months.

Beale played a rare blinder on Rangers star who’s been touted at £20m

Former Glasgow Rangers manager Michael Beale did not enjoy the best of times in charge of the club before his departure in October of last year.

In just over ten months at Ibrox, the former Gers assistant failed to win a single trophy and was eventually dismissed and replaced by Philippe Clement earlier this season.

The English tactician was allowed to bring in nine new signings to bolster his squad throughout the summer transfer window and question marks remain over many of them.

Michael Beale for Sunderland.

Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes, both signed on permanent deals, have already been shifted on to FC Utrecht and Cruzerio respectively last month. Meanwhile, former Norwich City star Kieran Dowell has only featured in seven Scottish Premiership matches since his move.

Beale did, however, play a rare blinder with the signing of Jack Butland on a free transfer from Premier League side Crystal Palace ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Jack Butland's market value last summer

The former England international was technically valued at £0 last summer as the Eagles opted to release him for nothing at the end of last season.

This allowed Beale and the Gers to swoop in to sign him for nothing after he had spent the second half of last term on loan as a back-up with Manchester United.

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland

Butland did not make a single appearance for the Red Devils, and did not play any matches for his parent club during the first half of the campaign.

It was, therefore, a gamble for Rangers to bring in a 30-year-old player who had not kicked (saved) a ball in anger for over a year, but it is one that has paid off big time for the Scottish giants.

Jack Butland's current value

Speaking to IbroxNews earlier this month, former Rangers star Derek Ferguson hailed Butland as "phenomenal" and stated that it would take around £20m for the club to even consider a sale.

That came shortly after the Light Blues reportedly knocked back an approach from Premier League side Nottingham Forest during the January transfer window.

Interestingly, the 30-year-old titan was once valued at a staggering £30m by Stoke City back in 2019, and this touted value of £20m suggests that the colossus is getting back to his best.

As you can see in the table above, Butland has been a huge upgrade on Allan McGregor this season with a significantly better save success rate and average performance level in the Premiership.

The English giant has racked up 20 clean sheets and conceded 29 goals in 39 appearances for the club in all competitions this term, which means that he is averaging less than one goal conceded per match.

These statistics show that Rangers improved their team and landed a terrific performer by securing Butland's services for £0 from Palace last summer.

Therefore, Beale played a rare transfer blinder with the former Stoke star, who is now being touted at £20m, whether a team would be willing to pay that or not, and one he should be praised for.

Billy Godleman ton leads good day for Derbyshire batsmen against Middlesex

Middlesex bowlers toil for little reward as Derbyshire batsmen shine

Jon Culley in Derby30-Jun-2019Middlesex’s decision to forego the toss and bowl might have looked the logical route to follow given the colour of the pitch here. Instead, it exposed their bowlers to a day of mostly unrewarding toil on a slow surface that offered them little apart from the slightly unreal experience of watching Billy Godleman, once a Middlesex player, compile a 115-ball hundred.By his own confession, Godleman’s default approach in red-ball cricket, for the most part, in a career that had him tipped to play at the highest level in his formative years at Lord’s, has been based on survival first. This is the Godleman who went back to Lord’s in only his second match as a Derbyshire player in 2013, opened the batting on day one against his former employers and took 244 balls to reach fifty, the slowest in the history of the County Championship, allowing himself the liberty of just one boundary. He is not quite so conservative these days, yet still hardly a dasher. So it must have been quite an eye-opener for the likes of Steven Finn and Dawid Malan as Godleman took it upon himself to throw caution to the wind and attack the new ball in a way that had seasoned followers of the Derbyshire captain scratching their heads to recall anything quite like it.Wielding the bat in a way that suggested he had woken convinced that the day would be his, even the fact that his first boundary almost took out his stumps off an inside edge and the second flew over the slips did not alter his mood. At one point, to general consternation, he went down the pitch to Toby Roland-Jones and belted the ball over long-off for six. This time he reached his half-century in 35 deliveries, which a check through his career record confirmed was unprecedented, as everyone watching suspected. He should have then been out almost immediately, dropped at backward point by Steve Eskinazi without adding to the 51 he had scored up to that moment. It was the leg-spinner Nathan Sowter’s first over and the chance could not have been more straightforward. Now Godleman became a little more watchful. His next 12 runs took him seven balls longer to acquire than his first 51. Luis Reece began to catch him up, reaching his own half-century from 92 deliveries. Curiously, given that he had batted with a much more conservative approach than his partner, he should have been out twice, dropped by Max Holden at midwicket without scoring off Roland-Jones and again at slip by Sam Robson on 33, in the unlucky Sowter’s second over. They reached lunch on 113 without loss. The Middlesex bowlers may have bemoaned their luck but they had also offered too many relatively easy run hits, either by bowling too short or too wide.Godleman pushed on again in the second session, completing what was also the fastest hundred of his first-class career when he cut Sowter to the third-man boundary for his 16th four, raising his arms above his head in celebration and shouting something as he looked towards the heavens. Again, he offered a chance immediately after passing the milestone. This time it was taken, at slip, as Sowter’s luck improved as he found some turn and bounce to find the edge.Reece, joined by the splendidly-named Fynn Hudson-Prentice, who will never be troubled to remember his Championship debut for Derbyshire, was by now scoring runs with increasing confidence and a hundred seemed to be his for the taking too. It was no wonder, then, that he threw his head back in disbelief as he was dismissed on 96, wondering what had possessed him to meet a seemingly innocuous ball from seamer George Scott straight to Roland-Jones at mid-on.Yet if Reece could consider himself unlucky, it was nothing compared with the agony that would befall Hudson-Prentice, whose maiden Championship innings for the county was just one run from turning into a dream start.A 23-year-old all-rounder who was released by Sussex, his home county, at the end of the 2016 season, Hudson-Prentice has been given the chance to resurrect his county career after spending last season and the start of this one on the MCC Young Cricketers’ programme at Lord’s, where his progress will have been noted by Steve Kirby, the former MCC head coach who is now Derbyshire’s assistant coach. He made a good enough impression there to earn some Second XI cricket with Derbyshire this early summer, two hundreds in May convincing the county to offer him a contract until the end of 2021.So far, it looks a good decision. Well organised at the crease, he took on a high-quality attack with confidence and no little skill, numbering some crisp drives among his 13 fours and lofting Sowter for a towering six. Middlesex took the new ball and Tom Helm had him edging to second slip only to be called for over-stepping. It seemed destined to be a perfect day.Yet, on 99 and facing the same bowler, an attempt to pull away a short ball went just wrong enough for the ball to travel upwards rather than flat. He looked on from the crease, willing Middlesex’s bad day in the field to continue, before dropping his head in stricken resignation as square-leg Finn clasped the ball safely to his chest. Helm struck again in the same over, dismissing Alex Hughes with the best delivery of the day to claw back something for Middlesex.

Sunrisers have everything to play for as RCB look to sign off with a win

Big picture

One team has everything on the line. The other team has nothing to aim at.If Sunrisers Hyderabad had won their Super Over against Mumbai Indians, they would have been sitting pretty on 14 points and a net run-rate far in excess of what any of the teams that can get to 14 points could realistically get. That would have pretty much guaranteed them a playoff spot, but Jasprit Bumrah proved too difficult to handle, leaving Sunrisers in a must-win position against Royal Challengers Bangalore in what is the last league game for both sides.

Form guide

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Lost to Mumbai Indians in the one-over eliminator, beat Kings XI Punjab by 45 runs, lost to Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets
Royal Challengers Bangalore: No result against Rajasthan Royals, lost to Delhi Capitals by 16 runs, beat Kings XI Punjab by 17 runs

Royal Challengers were the first side to be knocked out of the running for the playoffs, hardly surprising given that they have spent the majority of IPL 2019 at the bottom of the points table. Virat Kohli has reiterated for the past few matches that his side has nothing to lose and will only ‘enjoy themselves’ in the game, and he was right for all practical purposes. This time, he will be right mathematically too, with Royal Challengers truly having nothing to lose, or gain, for that matter. This will once again be a contest between the Sunrisers bowling and the Royal Challengers batting. The departures of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow, coupled with Vijay Shankar’s tapering off, has meant Sunrisers’ batting wears a thin look – only Manish Pandey is carrying it at the moment. For Royal Challengers, losing Dale Steyn was a big blow, and now they’ll be without Marcus Stoinis too. Navdeep Saini has been impressive in patches, but even with the last game here, they still seem unsure of what their best pace attack is. In contrast, Sunrisers’ bowling has looked in fairly good shape, while Royal Challengers’ batting has been spearheaded, as ever, by Kohli and AB de Villiers.

In the news

  • Stoinis has left Royal Challengers to link up with the Australian team for their World Cup camp. With him in the XI, Royal Challengers were playing only three overseas players. Without him, they have the option of bringing back Shimron Hetmyer, or giving another go to Colin de Grandhomme or Tim Southee.
  • Billy Stanlake hasn’t got a game yet for Sunrisers, but his pace and bounce could be useful on a batting-friendly venue. But including him will mean dropping Martin Guptill and an Indian pacer, and probably bringing back Yusuf Pathan to the middle order.

Virat Kohli reacts after dropping a catch•BCCI

Previous meeting

Centuries by Bairstow and Warner were followed by Mohammad Nabi’s 4 for 11 as Sunrisers trumped Royal Challengers in style. Both Bairstow and Warner are no longer there, but Royal Challengers will no doubt remember that exchange, and will want to exact revenge – for pride, if nothing else.

Likely XIs

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 3 Manish Pandey, 4 Kane Williamson (capt), 5 Vijay Shankar, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Abhishek Sharma, 8 Rashid Khan, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Basil Thampi, 11 Khaleel Ahmed Royal Challengers Bangalore: 1 Parthiv Patel (wk), 2 Virat Kohli (capt), 3 AB de Villiers, 4 Shimron Hetmyer, 5 Heinrich Klaasen, 6 Shivam Dube, 7 Colin de Grandhomme, 8 Washington Sundar, 9 Umesh Yadav, 10 Navdeep Saini, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal

Strategy punt

  • Given Royal Challengers’ opening combination of Kohli and Parthiv Patel, it might be a good idea for Nabi to take the new ball for Sunrisers. This year, Nabi has bowled ten overs in the Powerplay for an economy rate of 4.5 – the best in IPL 2019 (with a minimum of ten overs). His numbers against left-handers are also striking, with an average of 11.5 and an economy rate of 4.5. With Parthiv taking on the aggressor’s role for Royal Challengers and Kohli preferring to play himself in, the introduction of Nabi could stifle Royal Challengers in the Powerplay. Parthiv’s own numbers against offspinners are among his weakest – his strike rate is just 73.7 and he averages only 7.
  • Royal Challengers’ run rate in the middle overs since IPL 2018 is 7.6, the lowest among the eight teams. They are particularly vulnerable against spinners, scoring at just 6.6 against them in the middle overs. Can Hetmyer provide the middle-overs thrust they need? Hetmyer’s returns against spin in this IPL haven’t been encouraging but, on the flip side, he’s not had too many opportunities either. If he comes off, he could provide the cushion that Kohli and de Villiers seem to perennially lack.

Stats that matter

  • This will be Parthiv’s 200th T20 match.
  • Kohli is six runs away from completing 4,000 runs as a captain in the IPL.
  • Sunrisers have won four of the last five meetings between the two sides, and hold an 8-5 edge overall.

Spurs given "huge boost" with club ready to accept just £20m for top target

Tottenham have given a "huge boost" for the January transfer window as journalist Pete O'Rourke shares some news on a top target.

Spurs form under Postecoglou

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has suffered from a plague of injury and suspension issues over the last few weeks, and they've resulted in his side taking a major downturn in form.

Starting the Premier League campaign with a ten-game unbeaten run, Postecoglou enjoyed the best start made by any new boss in the division's history.

Levy now ready to make Spurs bid for player and offer him "monstrous" wages

He’s “unlikely” to refuse Tottenham’s proposal.

By
Emilio Galantini

Dec 8, 2023

Now, following injuries to key stars like Micky van de Ven and James Maddison, Spurs have lost four out of their last five league matches since early November and haven't won since their 2-1 victory away to Crystal Palace.

Their latest 2-1 defeat to London rivals West Ham was a particularly sore one to take for Postecoglou and supporters, with Spurs' head coach lamenting his team's poor performance in many aspects.

"No I don't think so," said Postecoglou on the loss to West Ham and whether their first-half performance was a positive (via football.london).

"I think it's another game where we've dominated a game of football and haven't turned our dominance into something more tangible and kept the opposition in the game. I thought we were really poor in both boxes tonight – both with our finishing and both goals were terrible to concede.

Ange Postecoglou.

"We had some unbelievable chances – for us it's another game, like the Villa game and other games earlier this year, and I said during the week our attacking play has a long way to go. In general we have a long way to go, and tonight was more evidence of that."

One saving grace for Spurs could be the transfer window opening next month, and reports suggest they're keen to strengthen in key areas.

Indeed, Tottenham are chasing a left-sided centre-back most of all, while Spurs are also keen to sign another winger (Sky Sports).

Spurs gifted "huge boost" in Iling-Junior chase

In the latter position, one name who's been regularly mentioned as a top target for Tottenham is Juventus winger Samuel Iling-Junior.

There have been reports that Spurs are favourites to sign the 20-year-old, with reporter O'Rourke now sharing a bit more good news for Postecoglou's side.

Juventus forwardSamuel Iling-Junior.

The journalist, writing for Football Insider, claims Juventus are ready to accept £20 million for Iling-Junior in what he describes as a "huge boost" for Tottenham.

Spurs view the former Chelsea academy ace as an "ideal fit" for Postecoglou's style of intense style of play, with the Serie A side now prepared to cash in on Iling-Junior in the winter window.

While the winger has struggled for consistent game time under Massimiliano Allegri, the same could've been said for Dejan Kulusevski during his time at the club.

The Swede has now gone on to thrive at Spurs, and supporters will be hoping Iling-Junior could follow a similar path if he signs.

Jack benched & £26k-p/w machine unleashed in Rangers predicted lineup vs Aberdeen

The last international break for around four months is finally behind us as Glasgow Rangers return to Premiership action this weekend.

During the last break, the Gers were in crisis, having just sacked Michael Beale and the Ibrox hierarchy went on a mad dash to find an appropriate successor.

They announced Philippe Clement just a few weeks later, and it's safe to say, the move has gone swimmingly so far.

Glasgow Rangers managerPhilippe Clement.

The Ibrox faithful shouldn’t get carried away, however, as there have been managers in the past who have enjoyed decent starts before their reigns turned into a disaster (looking at you Giovanni van Bronckhorst) and their feet should remain firmly on the ground.

The performances under the Belgian have been much better than what was served up under Beale and with a League Cup final to contest next month, the Light Blues could secure their first piece of silverware in 18 months.

A tie against Aberdeen in the league is first up, however, and following on from their 2-0 victory over Livingston last time out, Clement could make a few changes ahead of the trip to the north-east.

With that mind, here's how the Gers could lineup this weekend

1 GK – Jack Butland

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland.

The ever-present Rangers player has featured in every single match this season and his performances between the sticks have been excellent.

While Beale failed to really improve sections of the squad during the summer, luring Butland from England has proven to be a stroke of genius, and he will start once again versus the Dons.

The 30-year-old has kept eight clean sheets in 12 league ties and another one against Barry Robson’s men could be crucial.

2 RB – James Tavernier

James Tavernier

The captain will be leading the side out on Sunday as he aims to maintain their recent excellent form by securing another three points.

Tavernier has scored 11 goals and grabbed three assists – no other Rangers player has more goal contributions – and he would love to add to this tally.

If he leads the Gers to a win, it will give them a major boost heading into the League Cup final against the same opposition in just three weeks.

3 CB – Connor Goldson

Rangers defender Connor Goldson.

Connor Goldson has been solid under Clement so far, starting every match during his tenure, and the club have conceded only three goals in that period.

The defender has been a colossus at the heart of the defence, winning 72% of his total duels so far this season, and if he is in this type of mood, the Aberdeen forwards stand no chance.

4 CB – Leon Balogun

Rangers defender Leon Balogun.

The question is, who will partner Goldson on Sunday? Balogun certainly deserves another start following his impressive display against Livingston a few weeks ago.

The Nigerian won a staggering 13 out of 15 total duels during the tie while also making four clearances and three interceptions to keep Livi at bay.

He may be approaching the end of his career, yet the 35-year-old is still a class act on the pitch when given a chance.

5 LB – Ridvan Yilmaz

Ridvan Yilmaz

Three of his four league starts have come under Clement and the Turkish gem should be given the opportunity to show his worth from the start against Aberdeen.

With the future of Borna Barisic still unclear, Yilmaz is the heir to his throne at left back and the more he plays, the better he will become.

6 CM – John Lundstram

Jack Butland

The midfielder has returned to some solid form this campaign, and he will be unleashed in the starting XI for the ninth league game on the trot.

The Englishman has created two big chances and averages 1.1 key passes per game, linking the defence to the attack quite nicely, and he will be looking to prove to Clement that he deserves a contract extension.

7 CM – Jose Cifuentes

The former Los Angeles FC midfielder hasn’t started a match since the 3-0 win over St Mirren at the beginning of October, but three sub appearances in the last four matches indicate that he is ready to start.

This means Ryan Jack is dropped to the bench for the tie against his former team. The Scot has entered into the final year of his deal at the club, but he has been impressive this term.

The Ecuadorian needs game time, however, and once he returns to full fitness, he will be a key asset for Clement.

8 RW – Ross McCausland

The young winger has enjoyed a wonderful few weeks. Firstly, he made his first start for the Light Blues in their win over Livingston, winning a penalty and even scored, but the goal was disallowed.

Then, he made his debut for Northern Ireland during their recent Euro 2024 qualifier against Finland and it could be the beginning of a fine career for the starlet.

9 AM – Todd Cantwell

Todd Cantwell

Often deployed out on the right-hand side this season, Todd Cantwell’s best position is just behind the striker.

Indeed, he scored four goals and grabbed four assists from that position during the second half of the 2022/23 season after he joined the club from Norwich City in January.

He should be unleashed by Clement as, when in top form, Cantwell is able to cause opposition defences plenty of trouble.

10 LW – Abdallah Sima

Rangers winger Abdallah Sima.

The on-loan winger has been wonderful this season since arriving in the summer from Brighton and Hove Albion.

He has been a solid attacking threat from the left-hand side, scoring nine goals already and his pace has been a valuable asset.

Expect him to start against the Dons.

Journalist reacts to "complicated and complex" transfer rumour from Man Utd

Manchester United will be acutely aware that the January transfer window is coming fast at Old Trafford and journalist Dean Jones has given an update on one rumour doing the rounds before the market opens for business.

Manchester United dig deep at Anfield…

Manchester United managed to dig deep at Anfield against high-flying Liverpool to record a credible 0-0 draw at Anfield despite fielding a depleted starting side that included the likes of Jonny Evans, Sofyan Amrabat and youngster Kobbie Mainoo.

Several key players were also missing from the bench against Jurgen Klopp's outfit, making the fact Erik Ten Hag's men took a result even more of an impressive feat. The Red Devils are now in seventh place in the Premier League table with 28 points from their first 17 matches in the division and find themselves six points outside the top four heading into their trip to face West Ham United on Saturday.

Man Utd may make off-field bid for top target; club looking at replacements

Manchester United could be set for some big changes at Old Trafford…

BySean Markus Clifford Dec 18, 2023

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, journalist Charlotte Duncker singled out Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans for special praise, given that the pairing managed to keep a clean sheet in their first league start together.

"That was their ninth centre-back pairing already this season, so to go to Anfield with Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane, who were starting a Premier League game together for the first time, and to come away with a clean sheet, with both of them putting in really good performances, is testament really to the way Manchester United performed."

Nevertheless, United's matchday squad yesterday was a beaming example of why reinforcements are needed in the North West come January and journalist Jones has now given an update regarding one mooted transfer scenario involving two players.

Dean Jones drops Jadon Sancho and Donyell Malen update

Earlier in the month, reports indicated that Borussia Dortmund would offer Manchester United the chance to sign Donyell Malen in January in the event Jadon Sancho departs Old Trafford. BILD journalist Christian Falk has also added extra context to the matter, claiming that a swap deal could happen involving the two players mentioned.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Jones has now indicated that the Red Devils are trying their best to facilitate an exit for Sancho; however, he has suggested that any deal that would see Malen arrive in exchange would be fraught with difficulty.

Donyell Malen

Jones told the outlet: "There's a lot of reports around Sancho at the moment. But there's truth in it in a sense that representatives are trying to make something happen and they're trying to push an agenda and trying to force a transfer.

"But the actual likelihood of Jadon Sancho going to Dortmund and Donyell Malen coming the other away, that's so complicated and complex that it's just extremely unlikely. They really need to just focus on getting Sancho out and that's obviously where this is all coming from."

Leeds star who won 100% duels was the hero vs Rotherham, alongside Summerville

Leeds United dropped two points on Friday night as they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Rotherham United.

The Whites had the opportunity to go within five points of the automatic promotion places and when Crysencio Summerville put the visitors ahead inside six minutes, it felt as though they'd run away with the tie.

However, his beautifully curled effort, assisted by Georginio Rutter, was cancelled out moments before half-time thanks to Hakeem Odofin, who pounced on a loose ball to fire past Illan Meslier.

Leeds pushed for a winner and thought they had it when substitute Jaidon Anthony fired home in the 90th minute only for the linesman to raise his flag for an offside on Patrick Bamford.

Crysencio Summerville's performance against Rotherham in numbers

The Dutch dynamo was a thorn down Rotherham's right flank all night, catching the eye with his superbly taken goal and quality chance creation.

Aside from scoring his seventh of the season on Friday, he also served up three key passes for his teammates and was influential to everything positive that Daniel Farke's side constructed in attack.

rutter-summerville-leeds-opinion

Through his fleet-footed dribbling that allows him to unlock defences at will and his electrifying pace in behind, the Millers weren't the only side this term that have struggled to cope with his scintillating wide play.

Having completed four of his eight attempted dribbles and registered three shots on target, Summerville was constantly looking to make things happen by opening space for himself and others in the final third.

A hugely influential figure in Farke's attack, the 22-year-old also demonstrated his willingness to track back and win possession for his team, winning eight of his 14 ground duels and 100% of his aerials.

The Dutch wizard, however, wasn't the only impressive performer on the night as central midfielder Glen Kamara ran the show alongside Ethan Ampadu in the engine room.

Glen Kamara's performance in numbers against Rotherham

Although Rotherham are fighting at the bottom of the Championship, they demonstrated their physicality and strength in central areas against Leeds, battling for every ball.

Kamara, who has struck up a strong partnership with Ampadu in a double pivot this season, had to be at his best, technically and physicality, to prevent the hosts from gaining an upper hand in midfield.

Finland international Glen Kamara.

He certainly rose to the occasion of a Yorkshire derby, throwing himself into four tackles and winning all six of his attempted ground duels.
