Leeds can offload Gjanni Alioski by signing Perraud

With reports linking Leeds with a move for Romain Perraud, Marcelo Bielsa now has the perfect chance to wave goodbye to Gjanni Alioski.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay first revealed a couple of months ago that the Whites are eyeing up a summer move for the Stade Brest left-back, and now, The Daily Mail have confirmed Leeds’ interest, adding that they are set to face competition from the likes of Lyon and Marseille.

By signing the 23-year-old, Leeds could finally offload Alioski and start a new chapter at Elland Road.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the Leeds ace is set to depart the club in the summer when his contract expires, with Turkish giants Galatasaray apparently reaching a pre-contract deal with him.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw against Chelsea a few weeks ago, former Leeds ace Noel Whelan took aim at the £3.6m-rated Alioski for his defending and urged Bielsa to go after a new left-back in the summer.

The 46-year-old said: “Leeds need a natural full-back there that you know can cover most bases, definitely defensively because as much as he gives everything, he is a liability. He’s not the best of defenders.

“I think that’s why you could see a lot going down that left-hand side, really targeting Alioski and you saw that frailty there at times.”

In Perraud, not only would they be getting a solid defender, but someone who really comes into his own going forward and providing his team with a vital attacking outlet.

Writing a profile piece for The Athletic, Hay noted: “Perraud, 23, played for France up to under-20s level and his performance data — taken from smarterscout, which gives detailed analytics on players all over the world and gives ratings between zero and 99 across a series of metrics — shows characteristics which would meet Bielsa requirements: a creative edge and a high number of dribbles and shots for a player at his position, combined with a very active role in pressing defensively.”

As per Whoscored, Perraud outshines Alioski in virtually all the key categories both offensively and defensively, averaging more interceptions, key passes, shots, dribbles and crosses, while also being dribbled half the amount of times as the Leeds man.

The £7.2m-rated Perraud is just a major upgrade on Alioski, and being significantly younger too, would be fancied to develop into a more well-rounded full-back as the years go by.

Meanwhile, Leeds must unleash this starlet if Raphinha is injured…

Danny Ings to Tottenham is just talk

Former Tottenham captain Gary Mabbutt has expressed his doubts over reported interest from his old club in Southampton striker Danny Ings, in an exclusive interview with Football FanCast.

Ings had a strong season last term, scoring 22 goals in the Premier League. He also started this campaign off brightly, netting four times in his first five games, and has since been linked with a move to north London.

And with his contract set to expire next summer, speculation is only likely to increase unless he puts pen to paper on a new deal at St. Mary’s.

Mabbutt, however, is not entirely sure about the links. Speaking exclusively to FFC about the rumours, the ex-Spurs player said:

“Every single season we’ve been linked with so many players, and so have every other top club in the country. The percentage of players [that] actually are mentioned, especially now in this world of 24/7 coverage across TV and social media. There’s always stories to be had.”

While Ings, who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, has certainly shown that he is a very capable centre-forward at this level, a transfer to Tottenham would be questionable.

With Harry Kane being the north London club’s undisputed No.9, and understandably so, it is hard to imagine where Ings would fit in. The England captain has been in devastating form in the Premier League this season, scoring 16 goals and providing 13 assists, making him indispensable to Jose Mourinho’s side.

Unless the Portuguese coach opts for a two-striker system, Ings would most likely find himself playing a bit-part role at White Hart Lane.

West Brom can avoid Premier League relegation

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former West Brom player Carlton Palmer discussed the chances of his old side avoiding relegation this season and remaining in the Premier League.

The Baggies are currently 19th in English football’s top flight, nine points away from safety, and face Everton next before taking on Newcastle United in a massive game at the bottom of the table.

It is quite a gap that needs to be closed, but Palmer does not think it is impossible, backing West Brom to beat the drop if they can manage to win maximum points from those two upcoming fixtures.

Speaking exclusively to FFC, Palmer said:

“The next two games for me are absolute deciders, absolute deciders. They’ve got Everton on Thursday night and then they’ve got Newcastle three days later. Both of these games, they’re both two cup finals.

“If Sam [Allardyce] can pick up maximum points from those two games, I give them a great chance of staying up. But if they drop even a point against Everton or Newcastle, I can’t see them staying up, I just can’t see it. But they’ve got a great opportunity now.”

Undoubtedly, the next two games for West Brom are huge. If Allardyce’s side can beat both Everton and Newcastle, they could move to within just three points of the latter in the battle for Premier League survival.

It, of course, will not be easy, as Everton continue to impress, following up their first victory against Liverpool at Anfield since 1999 with a 1-0 win over Southampton on Monday.

Elsewhere, another relegation rival in Fulham have managed to find some form of late, not losing in any of their last five Premier League matches, further highlighting West Brom’s need to pick up points this week.

Everton must block Kean to PSG transfer

Carlo Ancelotti must block Moise Kean from joining Paris Saint-Germain in a permanent transfer this summer as the striker could be vital for Everton next season.

What’s the word?

According to Fabrizio Romano in his column for CBS Sports, Ancelotti is hopeful of having Kean back at Goodison Park for the 2021/22 campaign following his year in the French capital.

The 20-year-old has scored 14 goals in 26 games across all competitions for the Parisian giants thus far this term, with his latest strike coming against FC Barcelona in a 4-1 Champions League Round of 16 win at the Camp Nou last week.

PSG do not have an option to buy the Italian inserted into their loan agreement, though Sporting Director Leonardo would like to explore keeping the forward in France having been in love with Kean for a number of years.

Everton are expected to demand a sizeable profit on the £29m paid to Juventus in 2019 if the Premier League outfit are to sell Kean at the end of the season, with a value of no less than €45-50m (£39-43m) expected.

Leonardo had previously tried to lure Kean away from the Allianz Stadium during his time operating a similar role at AC Milan in December 2018, when he made multiple approaches to the Turin outfit while the Old Lady considered the striker’s long-term future.

Juventus had also explored re-signing Kean last summer and are believed to be considering another approach at the end of the season, having failed to seal a reunion for the eight-cap international due to Everton demanding a return of the full fee paid 12-months prior.

Should Everton retain Kean?

Everton’s alleged valuation of Kean may prove to be an obstacle that not many sides – including PSG and Juventus – are willing to move in order to sign the Italian this summer, but Ancelotti should block any deal even if one offer comes in over the £39m requested.

Kean can play a key role in the Toffees’ efforts next season having rediscovered his form in front of the net after a dry and underwhelming debut campaign at Goodison Park, featuring just two goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Those performances are a distant record of the player he has become with PSG, where Mauricio Pochettino has not been surprised by Kean’s performances during his first two months at Les Parc des Princes.

“I was not surprised by the performance of Moise Kean in Barcelona. If I say that I was surprised, that would mean it was a bet. It was not a bet, we know his qualities,” the former Tottenham Hotspur coach said, via quotes by Goal’s Benjamin Quarez.

Former Italy international Federico Balzaretti also praised Kean following the Camp Nou affair, telling Le Parisien: “He is able to play anywhere [in the attack].

“He’s a modern, physical player. He has quite a few technical qualities, even if that is not his main strength. But when he is confident, he makes very good choices.”

As well as scoring, Kean tested Marc-Andre Ter Stegen on two other occasions and provided a key pass against Barcelona, bettering his average performances in Ligue 1 fixtures where he offers 1.9 shots and 0.3 key balls a game, per SofaScore.

Only Dominic Calvert-Lewin (2.52) is averaging a higher number of shots per game for Everton in the Premier League this season.

And with the Toffees in the mix for European football, with five points separating Ancelotti’s men from fourth-placed West Ham and with a game in hand, having Kean and his new lease of life back on Merseyside next season could see the striker take on a key role he rarely looked like securing a year ago.

Shaqiri rejects loan move to Germany

Many Liverpool fans reacted with worry after reports emerged that midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri turned down a loan move to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

According to Sky Germany (via Fussball Transfers), the 29-year-old had no interest in throwing himself into a relegation fight in Germany.

This is not the first time he has been linked with loan moves away. Last year, the Reds turned down approaches from Roma and Sevilla so he could stay for the title charge (via BBC Sport).

Despite this, Shaqiri remains a bit-part figure in Jurgen Klopp’s side, starting just two Premier League games and featuring four times as a substitute.

Having won just one game in their last six, supporters couldn’t understand why their club was trying to offload creative players in the squad, to which they made their feelings clear to @LFCTransferRoom on Twitter.

Mourinho must consider axing Harry Winks amid Valencia interest

Jose Mourinho must consider getting rid of Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate Harry Winks in the January transfer window, as the midfielder is now attracting interest from abroad.

What’s the word?

According to Spanish news outlet AS, Valencia are interested in signing the 24-year-old on loan during this month’s transfer window.

The England international is also reportedly open to a move away, as he looks to secure regular playing time ahead of the European Championships in the summer, as he will surely be desperate to be a part of Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Should Mourinho axe Winks?

Winks has struggled for game time in the Premier League this season, with just seven appearances in the top-flight to his name, in which he has averaged a shocking 6.34 rating, which ranks him as Spurs’ fourth-worst performer in the Premier League so far this campaign.

However, he has shown his class in his performances in the Europa League with the Lilywhites, having averaged a 7.16 rating across his five appearances, although this could be the case of the Englishman simply finding his level against inferior opposition.

Although he was solid enough in the 3-0 win against Leeds on Saturday, picking up a 6.8 rating from SofaScore, he was barely involved in Spurs’ attacking play, completing just 14 passes.

From a defensive point of view, he was able to win just three of his eight duels, resulting in a disappointing success rate of 37.5%, which begs the question – what does Winks offer in this Spurs side?

Earlier in the season, pundit Stewart Robson was heavily critical of the midfielder following Spurs’ 1-0 defeat against Royal Antwerp, saying:

“I’m not sure what he gives Spurs.

”I think he’s too square with his passing. He goes backwards. He keeps the ball, but there’s no penetration with his passing and he was one of the major problems with Spurs’ performance today.”

Indeed, it seems that, despite his recent run in the Spurs starting XI, Winks simply doesn’t offer Mourinho enough at the moment and he has better options available.

Therefore, if Valencia’s interest in the midfielder is genuine, then the Portuguese manager should consider loaning, or even selling, the £50k per week midfielder so he could get regular football in Spain, rather than perhaps being a bit-part player with the Lilywhites.

A gente acompanhava e eu desacreditei.
