West Brom fans discuss the possibility of Chris Willock signing permanently

West Bromwich Albion could be set for a busy January transfer window.

Multiple reports have emerged over the international break, which concerns several members of Slaven Bilic’s Championship-leading side.

Nathan Ferguson is one who could be on his way out of the Hawthorns as the club will supposedly look to sell him if no agreement can be made over a new contract; Matheus Pereira has been linked to Manchester United; Grady Diangana continually faces uncertainty over his loan deal.

And now Chris Willock, who Bilic signed on deadline day and is yet to feature in a senior game, is being considered as a permanent addition in the winter window.

The 21-year-old winger is on loan from Benfica B and has scored three goals and assisted four in seven Premier League 2 matches this term, per Transfermarkt.

Some of the Baggies faithful have been discussing the potential decision on social media.

A few were against such a deal with one supporter calling it a ‘waste of money’ as the starlet is yet to even make the bench for a Championship fixture while another pleaded the club to save money.

However, many were on board with it. A further member of the Albion crowd claimed Willock was a ‘class player’ with one more wondering if the former Arsenal graduate was the hidden goalscorer they have been missing.

Manchester United fans split on the news Nemanja Matic could leave in January

Manchester United fans are split on whether or not to let Nemanja Matic depart in January after a report in The Mirror claims the Serbian could leave due to falling further down the pecking order.

The former Chelsea man had a great first season at Old Trafford helping the club finish second and averaging 72.3 passes per league game and a 7.29 rating for that Premier League season. However, the last 12 months have been an entirely different story. This season Matic has averaged just 40 passes per game and has been dispossessed 1.3 times per match in just three league appearances.

His poor form under Jose Mourinho in the Portuguese’s latter stages at the club has seen Scott McTominay often used as a replacement, including during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign so far. Also, with Paul Pogba’s undroppable creativity of 13 league goals and nine assists last season, Matic has found himself far from the starting XI, and often even behind the likes of Fred.

However, despite the 31-year-old’s questionable form, the sales of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini have left United with little depth in the centre, and letting another man go would surely not be wise.

Regardless of his abilities under Solskjaer, the Norwegian must learn from his mistakes in letting players go and find a replacement before he sells again.

Here’s what the fans have had to say…

Crystal Palace’s van Aanholt won’t be happy with one error this weekend

Patrick van Aanholt may have had a fantastic game against West Ham as he netted the winning goal on Saturday evening, but there is one thing he will most certainly regret from this past weekend of Premier League action. We’ve previously seen that the Dutch full-back is a bit of a fantasy football fan.Watch Crystal Palace Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Not only does he enjoy playing FPL, he also believes in his own team and his own abilities, as he had a number of Palace players, including himself, in his squad a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t fully backed himself this weekend as his choice of captain will have disappointed him.

Indeed, van Aanholt made an error by only setting himself as the vice-captain this week as he instead chose to make Raheem Sterling his skipper.

Unfortunately, Sterling had a poor week in terms of FPL points as he failed to score or assist as City were beaten 2-0 by Wolves.

If the Palace man had backed himself a little bit more he’d have had a much more lucrative week, but it seems that he’s underestimated his own abilities by choosing the England winger as his captain.

Barcelona fans want Inter Milan to buy Ivan Rakitic from them

The new international break has brought us many new transfer stories, as is usually the case.

One, in particular, comes from Tuttosport (via Mundo Deportivo) and it states that Inter Milan are interested in Barcelona’s experienced midfielder, Ivan Rakitic.

The 31-year-old Croatian, who has won 104 caps for his country, seems to be one of the dispensable players in the Blaugrana squad and if some of the fans’ reactions are any indication, he is not among the most beloved players in the team.

Upon hearing this transfer update, many of them were actually thrilled about it and are hoping to see Rakitic gone as soon as possible.

Some were even praising and showing their love for Antonio Conte, Inter Milan’s manager, since he could be doing them such a big favour, while others are practically begging him to go through with the deal.

Of course, nothing is for certain just yet and the winter transfer market is still some time away.

Man Utd starlet Mason Greenwood underlining his status as a saviour

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Just where would Manchester United be without Mason Greenwood? Forget the fact he has barely played for the club. The 17-year-old’s meteoric rise has seen him quickly become a silver lining amongst the storm that has engulfed Old Trafford. From years-old issues with the owners and Ed Woodward, to the horror showings on the pitch in recent months, Red Devils fans don’t have much to shout about. But in their teenage academy prospect, they have someone who is turning into a shining light in these dark times, protecting the realm from the toxicity that was spreading around Old Trafford.

The forward struck the match-winner in an insipid 1-0 victory over FC Astana in the Europa League, and made it two goals from two starts when he fired home against a resilient Rochdale side in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. In a game that exposed all of United’s turmoil, Greenwood was the sole individual the Old Trafford faithful could get behind. And boy did he deliver.

Per Whoscored, the teenager received the highest match rating of any player on the pitch and it’s easy to see why. Apart from his ice-cold finish in the second-half, Greenwood always sought to embrace the responsibility of trying to be his side’s hero, shouldering a huge attacking burden. By the end of the game, the 17-year-old had fired in seven shots at goal, of which four were on target.

Perhaps just as exciting for United is his decision-making. His five key passes were a game-high, and proved he is more than just a predatory finisher. Playing from the right-hand side, his ability to go both ways gives him considerable versatility in potentially playing a pass or shooting for goal.

Already, the attacker is proving he can be a handful for opposition defences in just his two starts this season. There will undoubtedly be tougher tests ahead than FC Astana and Rochdale, but his massive potential is already under-lining his status as a saviour for United.

Arsenal: Fans excited after midfielder wows in international game

Excitement is building among the Arsenal faithful after Dani Ceballos’ performance in Spain’s European Championship qualifier against Romania.

Spain won 2-1 with the on-loan Real Madrid man playing a beautiful pass for the ‘pre-assist’ as Paco Alcacer scored the second goal of the game.

Ceballos is enjoying his time at the Emirates Stadium so far after his man-of-the-match performance against Burnley. The Spain international assisted both goals as Arsenal beat Sean Dyche’s side 2-1.

The 22-year-old made the move to north London on a season-long loan deal in the summer. There isn’t thought to be an option to make the move permanent, though Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (via Metro) has said that the Spanish giants have promised discussions will be held next summer over a permanent move.

Fans have already fallen head over heels for the Spaniard and took to Twitter to drool over his pass.

Here is a selection of tweets from Gooners:

Leeds loanee Eddie Nketiah can prove beneficial for Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Leeds brought in two much-needed new faces on transfer deadline day last Thursday.

First through the door arrived goalkeeper Illan Meslier on loan who comes in as Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s replacement.

Acting as Kemar Roofe’s, however, will be Eddie Nketiah.

The 20-year-old Arsenal man became their second deadline day loan signing after the club beat the likes of Swansea and Bristol City to his signature.

It was quite the capture for Leeds with the Gunners initially having little desire to send him elsewhere.

But now he’s arrived, what can he bring?

On the chalkboard

Nketiah has a fabulous goalscoring record at youth level, netting 46 times for various academy teams at Arsenal.

He is a natural finisher and after Leeds were left staring at just one striker among their ranks, he is a valuable addition.

Yet, he could prove to be incredibly beneficial for two of Leeds’ most creative players in Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez.

This is because of the hard work and runs Nketiah makes, something that has become a major trait of his play at Arsenal.

Only this summer, The Mirror claimed he’d been working on his physique and power in an attempt to bulk up whilst Football London hailed him for his runs into the channels against Fiorentina, a game in which he scored.

It’s that final aspect that can get the most out of Hernandez and Klich because of their ability to play key passes, thus enabling Nketiah to get into the channels and run in behind regularly.

Last term, the former averaged three key passes per match whilst his Polish teammate managed 1.4, per WhoScored.

With someone like the young loanee being able to make canny runs off the ball, it could well result in a clearer route to goal for the Whites.

Marcelo Bielsa has liked to cram plenty of creative options into a 4-1-4-1 formation but Nketiah could just be the person to enable them to get the best out of it.

After all, if players like Klich and Hernandez have someone making progressive runs in front of them, it’ll be of huge benefit to the whole attack.

Newcastle eyeing sensational swoop for Danny Rose

[ad_pod ]

Various reports have suggested Steve Bruce wants to bring Danny Rose to Newcastle, and what a signing it could be.

What’s the story?

The Daily Star reported over the weekend that Rose is a target for Bruce.

The report claimed the new Magpies boss wants to strengthen the left-back position, and is eyeing a £15m swoop for Rose after he was left out of Spurs’ pre-season tour of Asia.

Now, The Chronicle have confirmed Rose is “on Bruce’s list of possibilities”, and The Shields Gazette has also said the club want to sign “an attacking left-back” this summer.

Perfect signing

There’s really no other way to look at this – signing Rose for a measly £15m would be sensational business from the Magpies.

At 29 years of age with a serious knee injury on his record from 2017, it makes sense that Spurs are looking to sell as they freshen up their squad, but Rose is still an elite left-back.

Per Transfermarkt, he has played 14 times in the Champions League, including last year’s final in Madrid of course, and also has 27 England caps to his name, including five at the World Cup.

Across 171 Premier League appearances he has grabbed nine goals and 23 assists, and you only need to look at Spurs fans’ reactions to his potential exit to see what they think about him.

Mauricio Pochettino has always had a reputation for improving full-backs, from Luke Shaw to Kyle Walker, and Rose’s time under the Argentine boss will have worked wonders for him as well.

All in all, if Newcastle can fix a position Bruce has identified as a weakness with a Premier League and internationally proven player, who played 90 minutes in last year’s Champions League final, all for £15m, it would be an excellent piece of business from the club.

Man United would be ruining their good work this summer with Dybala signing

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

In news that has surfaced recently and has the potential to be the biggest saga of the summer, Manchester United and Juventus have found themselves in discussions over a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala.

At first glance, the move seems like it would suit all parties.

United get rid of an out-of-sorts forward who appears to have lost a section of the fanbase’s support, and get a world-class talent with 78 goals in 182 games for the Italian giants in return, whilst Juventus get rid of a player who is no longer wanted and also obtain a target of theirs.

However, it wouldn’t be all that good for United if Dybala signed and all of their good work this summer would be undone if he did end up at Old Trafford.

It has been said that the Argentina international is happy to stay with the Serie A champions and only a huge pay-rise would persuade him to leave, amid reports that the 25-year-old wants £350k-a-week to sign as well as exclusion from the 25% pay-cut imposed on all players if United fail to qualify for the Champions League.

It is these types of characters who have caused issues in the dressing room already over finances, with Alexis Sanchez’s huge pay packet causing problems with David De Gea’s contract renewal.

United have done well this summer in signing young, hungry talent such as Dan James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who will surely be keen to impress having made the step up from Swansea and Crystal Palace respectively.

Additionally, Harry Maguire looks set to be the next man to arrive, and in doing so make a step up himself having come from Leicester.

United need players willing to put their body on the line for the shirt and ones who are motivated primarily for footballing reasons.

What they don’t need more of are mercenary-type footballers who live for the salary and are only at the club because of the wages being paid to them.

Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have done some good business this summer in terms of the characters they are recruiting, but the Juventus man – who is seemingly only ready to be convinced to join with cash – would be a backwards step and would also undo all of the club’s good work.
