The contract news has yet again rolled out of Elland Road. In previous weeks Kalvin Phillips, Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper signed new terms but now it’s Luke Ayling putting pen to paper.

Leeds confirmed the news on their Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon in the build-up to last night’s clash against West Brom.

Ayling played his first minutes under Marcelo Bielsa this term on Monday night but not playing before then doesn’t look as though it’s become an issue in negotiations.

The right-back played 40 times for Leeds last term and was an influential figure but concerns have still been expressed over his new contract.

Many supporters took to Twitter to discuss the announcement from the club as one declared they weren’t thrilled by all the long-term plans.

A further individual said the Whites were setting themselves up for problems in a few years while another said it was a tad crazy.

The 28-year-old has recently just stepped up his recovery from an injury by playing for the U23 side but he faces a job to get back into Bielsa’s plans.

Dallas has had an excellent term himself, one that’s seen him bag against Stoke and achieve an average match rating of 7.04 prior to the visit of the Baggies.

Rangers are lining up a potential swoop for free agent Claudio Marchisio, per RMC Sport.

What’s the word?

Marchisio last played for Zenit St Petersburg but left the Russian club at the end of the 2018/19 season.

He endured an injury-hit campaign due to knee issues but the 33-year-old now finds himself in demand.

The report states that Ligue 1 club AS Monaco are in talks with the former Italy international, who won 55 caps for his country, though Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are also credited with an interest.

A classy operator

Marchisio brings with him a wealth of experience and a bulging trophy cabinet.

He made his name at Juventus, making 389 appearances for the Serie A giants, winning seven Italian league titles, four Italian cups, and three Italian Super Cups. Zenit also won the Russian title last season.

If he can stay fit, he would be an asset to any team, particularly Rangers.

An excellent distributor of the ball and an effective screen to a defence, one believes that he would take to Scottish football.

It remains to be seen if they can beat Monaco to the punch.

وقال أشرف صبحي، في تصريحات صحفية اليوم الإثنين، إن الوزارة ساهمت في استقرار الأوضاع المالية للعديد من الأندية الشعبية، وخاصة تلك التي تعرضت لتغيرات أو تراجع في مستوى الإيرادات خلال الفترة الماضية.

وكان وزير الرياضة قد صرح أن الوزارة دعمت الزمالك بـ100 مليون جنيه خلال الفترة الماضية طالع التفاصيل.

وأضاف أشرف صبحي أنه من بين تلك الأندية الزمالك، وقامت الوزارة بمساعدته بالتنسيق مع اللجنة المؤقتة المشكلة لإدارة شئون النادي في حصوله على أكثر من مائة مليون جنيه كانت مستحقة لدى العديد من الجهات المختلفة لصالح النادي، ولكن لم يكن الدعم من موازنة الوزارة، فضلاً عن تواصلنا مع العديد من الجهات التي لديها مستحقات لدى نادى الزمالك لجدولة تلك الديون، بما لا يعيق أداء النادي ووفاءه بالتزاماته المختلفة.

وأكد وزير الرياضة التزام الوزارة بهذا الدور تجاه جميع الأندية الشعبية بغرض الحفاظ على استقرارها على صعيد النواحي المالية والإدارية، ودعم أنشطتها المختلفة في سبيل خدمة الشباب والمواطنين من الأعضاء والمترددين عليها.

According to The Mirror journalist David Anderson on Twitter, reports linking Brentford midfielder Romaine Sawyers with a move to Leeds United are wide of the mark, and plenty of Whites fans have been quick to react on Twitter.

Football Insider said earlier this month that the Yorkshire outfit were ready to compete with Scottish giants Celtic for the signature of the Bees star, who has since been the subject of a £2.2m offer from West Bromwich Albion.

A separate Football Insider report said on Monday that United were ready to make one last push to win the race for the 27-year-old, who contributed seven assists in 46 appearances for the west London last term having played in both a central and advanced midfield role.

Anderson’s recent tweet suggests Marcelo Bielsa’s men don’t hold an interest in the St Kitts & Nevis international at all though, which makes sense given the options they currently have in that position – Kalvin Phillips, Adam Forshaw, Jamie Shackleton and Mateusz Klich among others.

Leeds supporters have taken to social media to have their say on Anderson’s update, and it’s fair to say they were feeling pretty negative.

Many decided to take aim at the hierarchy and suggested that they are just a selling club, while others didn’t seem surprised at all with some believing they won’t make another signing before the Championship window slams shut on August 8.

A number of Celtic fans have been on social media hailing Stiliyan Petrov, who turned out for the Scottish giants between 1999 and 2006.

Indeed, it was Petrov’s 40th birthday on Friday and Celtic’s official Twitter account was on hand with a special message for the Bulgarian, which led to a host of the Scottish outfit’s fans offering words of praise.

The former midfielder turned out on 99 occasions for the Hoops in all competitions – scoring 18 times and contributing 18 assists in the process.

The former CSKA Sofia youngster won four Scottish Premier League titles during his time with the club, in addition to three Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups during a successful period.

Petrov later went on to represent Aston Villa – making 219 appearances for the English giants before retiring in 2013.

A 105-time Bulgaria international, Petrov certainly enjoyed a successful career and has now been fondly remembered by the Celtic fans on social media.

يذكر أن منتخب مصر احتل المركز السابع في ترتيب منتخبات كأس العالم لكرة اليد، في نسختها السابعة والعشرين المُقامة في القاهرة، بعد  خروجه من دور ربع النهائي أمام الدنمارك.

Tottenham Hotspur fans are unhappy at the prospect of signing Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid after AS claimed that the club had entered into talks with the midfielder.

The 22-year-old is reportedly deemed expendable by manager Zinedine Zidane this summer, with Real placing a minimum €50m (£44.6m) asking price on his head.

Ceballos made just 13 starts in La Liga in 2018/19, and has played a total of 56 times for Los Blancos.

A full Spain international who has won six caps, Ceballos is reported to be a “priority” for manager Mauricio Pochettino this summer, with the Argentine having not added to his squad since January 2018, when Lucas Moura joined the club.

A number of Spurs fans, though, are confused by the wording, with many believing that Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, a player to whom the club have been continuously linked, should be their top target, along with Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso.

Wolves have some phenomenally gifted players coming through their ranks at the moment.

Given the fact they’ll need more depth next season amid European football, some of their fringe players could be on the verge of attaining more first-team minutes.

At the centre of that is likely to be Ruben Vinagre, a player who has undoubted amounts of potential.

The young left-back has been playing for Portugal’s U20 side at the World Cup in Poland recently but some of his performances have shown he still has plenty of work to do.

On the chalkboard

Based on potential, the 20-year-old is one of Wolves’ finest signings since Nuno Santo took over the club.

However, he has some way to go in order to dislodge Jonny, one of Wolves’ most important players since achieving promotion.

Going forward Vinagre is a fine player and is the perfect example of a modern full-back, something he showed on multiple occasions despite limited game time last season.

Getting in ahead of Jonny was difficult considering the performances of the Spaniard and although he might well do so down the line, the 2019/20 season could be too soon.

That’s judging by his performances at the U20 World Cup.

Once again he was brilliant in attack, something that was particularly evident in a 1-1 draw against South Africa. His crossing ability was on show and he was unfortunate not to claim an assist against Argentina.

However, in terms of Vinagre’s defensive capabilities, he was caught out. In a 2-0 defeat against the same opposition, he was at fault for their first goal.

He allowed the winger to get in behind down the left-hand side, caught flat footed. Although he made a recovery to get back to his man, he then allowed him to cut inside and pick out a player inside the box.

If he starts to play regular Premier League football then that aspect of his game will have to improve.

It could be the fact that playing in a four back doesn’t suit him. Among a five man defence, he’d have a left centre-back to cover the space behind him.

If he gets caught out in a similar fashion for Wolves, Willy Boly, who usually plays as the left centre-back, should be able to cover for him.

Despite that, it shouldn’t distract from the fact that Vinagre simply has to improve defensively.

Bolton Wanderers are set to make a decision on the future of Tottenham Hotspur target Luca Connell in the coming days, per The Bolton News.

What’s the word?

The club are in dire financial trouble and were relegated from the Championship at the end of the 2018-19 season; they will begin the next campaign with a 12-point deduction after being placed into administration.

The Bolton News report that the club is now attempting to raise funds and that they see more value in young prospects as opposed to first-team stars, with Connell wanted by a number of clubs.

The Sun claimed earlier this month that Spurs were among the suitors for the 18-year-old, who is also wanted by Wolves, Everton and Norwich.

Connell’s contract actually expires next month but Bolton will be due a £300,000 fee due to compensation rules relating to young players, and they are now set to decide whether or not they will attempt to extract a fee from any interested party.

The teenager plays primarily as a defensive midfielder and made 10 Championship appearances in 2018-19.

Levy time

This could work out brilliantly for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Bolton are clearly desperate to sell in order to raise funds, however negligible the price may seem for a Premier League club, and Connell is a highly-rated youngster who would fit right in with Spurs’ academy.

He has been capped at youth level by the Republic of Ireland, playing for the Under-17s and the Under-18s and appears primed to make the step up.

Of course, he is unlikely to move to Spurs and instantly start strutting his stuff at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but this is a low-risk, high-reward deal that Levy will surely love.

If he doesn’t make it, Spurs are almost guaranteed to make a profit; if he does, they’ve got a star on the cheap.
