Gers fans rage at ticket problems

Glasgow Rangers fans are livid with the latest struggles they have had in securing away tickets for their Premiership clash against Ross County this weekend.

The Gers have not had the best start to the new season – they have already lost three games, two of which came in the Champions League third qualifying round against Malmo, and once against Dundee United in the Premiership.

They did beat Livingston 3-0 and then Dunfermline 5-0 in the Scottish League Cup, but there is seemingly plenty of work for Steven Gerrard to do to get his team firing on all cylinders.

Of course, having the famous Gers support back on away trips could have a big positive impact, and the next league match comes against Ross County this weekend, with fans desperate to secure tickets for the clash.

However, the supporters have had trouble in doing so and have therefore criticised the club’s ticketing system.

The fans were quick to share their frustration with the ticketing system, and they took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the problems below

Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul has been ruled out for the remainder of the Asia Cup because of a rib cartilage injury. He has been advised two weeks rest, and Abdur Rauf takes his place in the squad.”Gul has been advised complete rest for at least two weeks and this is a big setback for us as he is one of our main bowler’s,” Salahuddin Ahmed, a Pakistan selector, told .Gul sustained the injury during Pakistan’s group match against India on Thursday. He pulled up in his first over and, despite receiving some treatment, had to leave the field after bowling only 1.2 overs. His departure left Pakistan’s bowling attack severely depleted and India chased down their target of 300 with 47 balls to spare.”I don’t know exactly what it is but I felt pain after just a few balls and it became unbearable,” Gul said. Abdur Rauf, the fast bowler who made his debut against Zimbabwe in February, is likely to be named as a replacement. Sohail Khan, who was part of Pakistan’s squad for the Kitply Cup in Bangladesh, hasn’t recovered from a malaria attack.Pakistan qualified second from their group after their loss to India and their first match of the second round is against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Everton fans on Richarlison call-up

Many Everton fans have been left fuming as news emerged involving Richarlison.

As per the Brazil international team’s official Twitter page, he has been called up to their squad for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The Games do not end until Sunday 8 August, and the Toffees’ first fixture of the new 2021/22 Premier League season is at home against Southampton the following Saturday.

Given that he has been involved in the Copa America as well, it means that Richarlison is very likely to miss that first game against the Saints and maybe a few more after that, depending on how much rest he is given by Rafa Benitez.

Liverpool fans react to Damsgaard link

Liverpool are showing an interest in Sampdoria and Denmark star Mikkel Damsgaard, according to a report from Spanish newspaper La Razon.

FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham are also named as potential suitors for the Euro 2020 sensation.

Damsgaard shining for Denmark at the Euros

Damsgaard scored a sublime goal in Denmark’s final group game against Russia to set them on their way to the knockout rounds.

And he then set-up Kasper Dolberg for the opening goal as they thrashed Wales 4-0 in the Round of 16.

He’ll hope to shine again on Saturday evening when Denmark meet the Czech Republic for a place in the last four.

The 21-year-old scored two goals and provided four assists in 18 starts over the course of his first season with Sampdoria.

An ‘auction’ for his signature is tipped to begin after the Euros.

Damsgaard, who has three years left on his contract, is valued at £11.7million by Transfermarkt.

South Zone take slender first-innings lead at Bangalore

South Zone, riding on some solid middle-order batting, took a slender first-innings lead over East Zone in their Duleep Trophy encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, on Thursday.

Staff Reporter04-Apr-2002South Zone, riding on some solid middle-order batting, took a slender first-innings lead over East Zone in their Duleep Trophy encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, on Thursday.Skipper MSK Prasad, who was unbeaten on 93 at the end of the second day, dule completed his century, but he lost Vijay Bharadwaj 13.4 overs into the day’s play. Bharadwaj fell to Laxmi Rattan Shukla after making 48 off 98 balls, striking 10 fours in his knock.Prasad’s was the fourth wicket to fall, within just three overs of Bharadwaj’s departure, and South appeared to be tottering when Kiran Powar was dismissed with the score on 311. But Sridharan Sharath scored 49 off 102 balls, hitting seven fours and seeing his team out of that minor crisis.Sharath and Hemal Watekar fell within seven balls of each other, and East sniffed a chance of taking the first-innings lead at 358 for seven. The next wicket, however, fell with South exactly on 398, East’s first-innings score. Dodda Ganesh (24) and MR Shrinivas (30) added valuable runs in the tail, and the latter fell as the last wicket, with South making 419.East Zone, batting for only seven overs on the evening of the third day, reached 25 for one at stumps. Parag Das was the sole casualty, falling to Ganesh for a duck. Rashmi Ranjan Parida (13*) and Sourashish Lahiri (11*) were at the crease at the close of play.

Ignoring the silver lining

ARY Gold Cup: A review in retrospect

Agha Akbar28-Apr-2001Pakistan’s loss to Sri Lanka in the final of the ARY gold triangular tournament at Sharjah has resulted in yet another fit of inspired indignation among the brotherhood of the professional carping critics. Whatever the mitigating circumstances surrounding it, any defeat of the national cricket team presents an ideal opportunity to these self-proclaimed pundits for letting loose a torrent of abuse against individual players in general, and against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in particular, which by some twisted logic, is held directly responsible for every setback on the field. But, in the case of the Sharjah tournament, their vociferous criticism and pessimistic outcries do not bear a close scrutiny.True, that Pakistan virtually lost the match in the first 15 overs justly riled the fans. That is not expected of a professional side, and on a docile batting wicket to boot. If the team had put up a brave fight and still lost, the defeat would not have rankled so much, or allowed the detractors to come out of the woodwork. After all, our old nemesis, poor fielding, suddenly reappearing at the most inopportune moment. That allowed the Sri Lankans to pile up a formidable total, while the opposition’s catching was simply out of this world. This aspect alone is sufficient to explain the debacle, although it does not fully justify it.However, if one looks at things with the half-full instead of the half-empty glass attitude, one can say, without fear of contradiction, that the team performed exceptionally well through the tournament and won all four of its league matches. Remember that a full-strength Sri Lanka, with its dazzling array of batsmen, unmatched in experience and proven talent, was the pre-tournament favourite. It had recently beaten England at home, while Pakistan had suffered a loss at the hands of the third team of the tournament, the Black Caps, by a 3-2 margin on the recent away series. That Pakistan was without a coach to help plot strategy and tactics was also an important factor in the team faltering and stumbling at the final post.Be that as it may, that Pakistan won all its preliminary matches despite the absence of six of its stalwarts through injuries, represents no mean achievement. The team was like a well-oiled machine at this stage of the proceedings: the batting of Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi was a treat to watch, while the fielding, especially of youngsters Imran Nazir, Shoaib Malik and Younis Khan, was a sight for sore eyes. But, as in that nightmarish World Cup final against Australia in England, it all fell apart when it mattered the most. And, as in that encounter, it was (apart from the terrible fielding display) the lack of commitment and patience that was their undoing. Or maybe the youngsters were too overawed by the occasion: the ARY Cup may not have been that big an event but for them it was the first of their careers and the packed-to-capacity crowd yelling full throttle must also have added to the pressure. One however fails to see where the fault of the PCB lies in all this. Defeat in a game, and that too a one-day game that is a lottery in any case, is certainly being blown out of all proportion. And this is not the first time it has happened. Almost on all occasions when the PCB has tried to take on player power head on, the pressure has invariably been brought to bear on it – through harsh, unwarranted criticism, rumours and inspired stories – so that it reverts back to the tried and tested veterans, who, we know, reinstated again would soon be up to their shenanigans.Coming back to the Sharjah event, as manager Yawar Saeed talking to this correspondent said the other day, while the victory in the final would have been an icing on the cake, quite a few positive things emerged from the tournament. For one, Pakistan’s new captain and the young guns were tested, and while the former was found to be worth his salt, it was evident that the latter too have enough talent to strike it big at the highest level. The level of commitment generally was so high that Saeed Anwar, whom even club sides would like to hide in the field, was making desperate dives to save a mere run or two. It is entirely another thing that his dives were all over the place. But the fact that despite an operated knee he was resorting to dives – which could mean curtains for his career if he got seriously injured – reflects nothing but commitment.Though it is early days to comment on Waqar’s captaincy, for in the last decade we have seen Pakistan captains totally disintegrate in a series or two, overall he did a tremendous job. And that is why the side didn’t lack in consistency, save for the final. Worth dwelling on is the questions, when was last time Pakistan had won four successive matches?Instead of denigrating the team at this point, when it is about to embark on a demanding tour of England, which is the most improved side in the world over the last year or so and for the first time in 22 years has won four back-to-back series. It is a measure of Waqar Younis self-belief as captain and confidence in his charges that he is not willing even for a moment to concede that England are as invincible as they are being dubbed. He is inspired by the fact that he was one of the leading lights of those Pakistani squads in 1992 and 1996 that conquered a mightier England. Let us wish him luck, and may be England would see the beginning of reversal in Pakistan’s fortunes.
