WBA must complete Ikpeazu transfer

Having scored fewer goals than all of the clubs currently above them in the Championship table as well as a few currently underneath them, West Bromwich Albion dived into the January transfer market to add some extra firepower to Valerien Ismael’s squad with the signing of Daryl Dike from Orlando City.

However, with only a few days left until the window shuts, the Baggies may have to bring another attacking option to the club before the deadline arrives as a result of Dike’s recent muscle injury that will keep him out of action for the next eight weeks.

One potential option that West Brom could realistically look to bring in before the end of the month that they have been mentioned with recently is Middlesbrough striker Uche Ikpeazu.

With a total of 269 senior club appearances under his belt, the 26-year-old, who is currently picking up a weekly wage of £5.5k-per-week according to Salary Sport, has managed to score 53 goals and provide 32 assists along the way, highlighting the sort of experience he has and his ability to score and create goals, which is something that West Brom could do with at the moment.

Even though the attacker only joined Middlesbrough back in the previous summer transfer window from Wycombe Wanderers, he has only started eight of the 20 league games he’s appeared in, which suggests that he could be tempted with a move elsewhere if he’d get regular game time, which West Brom could offer him as a result of Dike’s unfortunate injury.

Labelled as a “humble” person in the past by Gareth Ainsworth, Ikpeazu could be just what Ismael needs at the moment to add an extra attacking dynamic to his side and potentially push the Baggies closer to promotion if he can hit the ground running in terms of scoring goals.

Moving forward, with West Brom’s recent 2-0 defeat against Preston North End proving how much they could do with some attacking reinforcements by having no shots on target throughout the match, the Baggies should definitely make a late approach to Middlesbrough to see if they’d be willing to negotiate a deal to sell their striker.

However, with Boro only three points behind West Brom at this stage of the season, they could be reluctant in allowing one of their attacking talents to join another team so close to them in the table, making it a potential challenge for the Baggies to sign him.

In other news: Ismael must finally axe £36k-p/w West Brom “leader” this month, he’s stealing a living

Everton must sign Sardar Azmoun

A report from 90min at the beginning of the month claimed Everton had joined the race for Zenit St.Petersburg forward Sardar Azmoun, with the 26-year-old set to be available for free next summer.

However, with the January window now just days away, it would be a good idea for the Toffees to further their interest next month.

Dubbed previously as ‘the Iranian Messi’, the £22.5m-rated forward has scored ten goals in 21 appearances across all competitions for Zenit so far this campaign, including a goal against Chelsea in the Champions League recently.

Furthermore, having joined Zenit from Rubin Kazan three years ago, Azmoun has a prolific record of 62 goals and 23 assists in 104 appearances for the Russian giants. A goal contribution every 1.2 games.

The Iranian has reportedly attracted interest from Everton owner Farhad Moshiri, who is of Iranian decent, and, according to a previous coach of Azmoun, Moshiri previously contacted him and “tried to negotiate a transfer.”

The Russian Premier League side may have no choice but to sell the 26-year-old next month in order to receive a fee, with his contract set to expire in just seven months time.

The Toffees have appeared stuck all season, sitting in an underwhelming 14th place in the Premier League and are in desperate need of some extra firepower to propel them up the table in order to avoid any nervy moments in the second half of the campaign.

Luckily, signings that initially received a mixed reaction from fans in the summer have exceeded expectations with Demarai Gray (five goals) and Andros Townsend (three goals) helping to fill the void left by star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Moreover, with the lack of goals from Rondon who has netted only once, Rafa Benitez’s side’s attacking output could’ve been much worse.

Alas, extra options in that department will be welcomed with open arms by the Everton faithful, and a possible deal for Azmoun would be shrewd business given his goals record for Zenit.

The only doubt would be the fact that the Iranian hasn’t played professional football outside of Russia, and therefore the jump up to the Premier League may prove a tricky one…at least initially.

AND in other news, Time to go: Benitez should axe EFC’s “reckless” £18m-rated dud, he’s not good enough…

West Ham must sign Adam Hlozek in January

West Ham United have been linked with a move for  Sparta Prague striker Adam Hlozek, with the Irons in need of added squad depth in January. David Moyes’ side are still in four competitions and will need further options if they are to juggle all four successfully.

What’s the story?

According to Football Insider, the Hammers have made an enquiry to sign the 19-year-old, with a fee of around £16m to £20m believed to be enough to lure the youngster away from the Czech capital.

The young striker enjoyed a prolific campaign in 2020/21, scoring 15 goals and registering eight assists in 19 league appearances, whilst this season has seen him contribute six goals and 11 assists in 23 appearances across the league and Europe.

West Ham should swoop for Hlozek

Given Hlozek’s young age, it would certainly be a signing for the future. However, the youngster has already been dubbed an “extraordinary talent” by his agent and could prove to be a bargain.

The Hammers have enjoyed an impressive start to the season and sit fifth in the Premier League, although David Moyes’ side have experienced a blip of late, winning just one of their last six league games.

Michail Antonio’s early form was a major catalyst for the Irons’ strong start, scoring six goals in eight league appearances. However, the Jamaica international has failed to score in his last nine appearances across both the league and Europe.

As a result, Moyes is in need of some extra firepower up front, and a move for the Czech Republic international could prove sensible, particularly for the long-term.

At 31 years of age, Antonio won’t be able to replicate the scoring efforts of the season’s early stages and the Hammers will need a reliable source of goals which will be sustainable and last for the long-term; Hlozek could provide that. Indeed, imagine what the two of them could be like if they get the chance to play together.

'We are in a very good position' – Faisal Iqbal

At the end of rain and bad-light hit fourth day’s play, in which Pakistan erased a deficit and eked out a 99-run lead while New Zealand managed four wickets, two key figures on either side were backing their team to claim the final day.Faisal Iqbal, whose chancy 67 was one half of a crucial third-wicket partnership which helped Pakistan take the lead, put faith in the batsmen to follow. Martin Guptill, whose first chance to bowl in Test cricket snapped a century opening stand, believed New Zealand could dismiss Pakistan as cheaply as possible before allowing their batsmen chase down a hopefully-small total. After the early loss of the well-set openers Imran Farhat and Salman Butt, both to the innocuous offspin of greenhorn bowler Guptill, the onus fell on Faisal and his captain Mohammad Yousuf to carry on the good work. That they did, adding 128 even though it wasn’t always a convincing effort. Yousuf had a let-off when Guptill missed a run-out chance after a suicidal call for a single and Faisal was reprieved after a caught-behind decision was reviewed. Hot-spot supported on-field umpire Billy Doctrove’s verdict that the noise was ball on the batsman’s thigh pad.”That was a critical partnership during that period between me and Yousuf ,” said Faisal. “It has set a better milestone for the batsmen to come tomorrow and settle down for a long innings.””At the moment we are in a very good position. Tomorrow is very crucial, especially in the first two hours. The way Misbah-ul-Haq and Umar [Akmal] batter before stumps showed that if they hang in their for at least two hours we can be in a good position. If we bat all day it will give a good result. It was a very good day for our team, especially [because] the batsmen did well. They put in their heart and soul and batted the whole day.”According to Guptill, New Zealand could “definitely” win this Test. “They are 100 ahead but you just put a couple wickets in early and they’re under the pump,” he said.Guptill, had never bowled a ball in Test cricket and had just a solitary first-class wicket, opened the bowling and removed the openers in quick succession to leave Pakistan wobbling. It was a surprise for Guptill, who was told about five minutes before he went out that he would get the ball.”We just needed to fill an over because Chris [Martin] wanted to come from the other end, then I got a wicket so just kept going,” he said. “Once I got the first couple [overs] out of the way I was alright. I’m pretty stoked to be able to get two wickets in Test cricket. I’d like to say I just did them in the air, but that’s probably not the case.”

Apesar do resultado negativo, o lateral-esquerdo João Paulo elogiou a atuação do time durante a partida.

Villa fans react to Archer contract

Aston Villa youngster Cameron Archer has put pen to paper on a new contract, the club have confirmed.

The 20-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season, but he’s now inked a fresh four-year agreement.

Why is there excitement over Archer?

Archer, who can play as a centre forward and as a winger, has been directly involved in 23 goals (scoring 16 and assisting seven) in 34 appearances for Villa’s Under-23s.

And he’s made an instant impact at the senior level this season, having been handed opportunities to impress.

He bagged a hat-trick on his full debut against Barrow in the EFL Cup, and was also on target in the next round against reigning European champions Chelsea.

What’s more, Archer was named player of the group stage in the EFL Trophy after scoring six times in three games against Football League opposition.

The official Aston Villa Twitter account made the announcement on Friday evening, and here’s how fans reacted.

Spurs: Conte wants Serie A "monster"

Antonio Conte has already made his transfer demands known at Tottenham Hotspur, according to emerging reports…

What’s the word?

Football Insider claims the 52-year-old boss has asked Fabio Paratici and the Spurs hierarchy to sign his former Inter Milan colossus Stefan de Vrij in January.

It’s thought that the Italian has made the Dutch international a top priority in the upcoming transfer window following early discussions with the Lilywhites sporting director.

The 29-year-old centre-back is under contract until the summer of 2023 and could command a fee in the region of £40m, with the Serie A champions somewhat strapped for cash.

The report also suggests that Conte rates de Vrij even higher than long-time Spurs target Milan Skriniar, who nearly joined the north London outfit last year and again last January.

Defensive upgrade

A move for the Inter defender could help Conte fix one of Tottenham’s longstanding problems in defence.

Aside from the inconsistent and error-prone performances from the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez, the Lilywhites have lacked a true leader at the back, perhaps since the departure of Jan Vertonghen.

“To be honest, that’s probably where it didn’t quite work out with Jose [Mourinho], we didn’t quite have enough leadership that we needed at the time,” claimed Harry Kane, via the Evening Standard, in May this year following the departure of the Portuguese.

Similarly, football.london have regularly made note of the lack of leaders within the current squad and a 23-year-old loanee from Atalanta in Cristian Romero doesn’t go to great lengths in fixing that.

Spurs’ goal difference of -7 is the joint-worst of any team outside of the relegation zone and goes to show that they are leaking goals (16) just as much as they are struggling to score them (nine), so a marquee man is needed at the back.

De Vrij, however, is a vastly experienced beast who is very much considered to be a defensive leader, having been capped 54 times by the Netherlands since August 2012 and registered nearly 200 appearances in the Italian top-flight.

The 6 foot 2 centre-back played a huge role in Inter’s triumph last term, helping them to the division’s best defensive record. He averaged an impressive 93.8% passing accuracy across 32 appearances, proving to be an excellent ball-playing defender.

He also averaged two aerial duels won and 1.3 interceptions per outing, via WhoScored, displaying his impressive intelligence and physical attributes.

De Vrij was once dubbed a “monster” by ex-Lazio teammate Mauricio, who told ESPN (via Football Italia): “Stefan is a great defender and deserves to be at a big club. He’s very tall, he’s strong and fast, he runs a lot – he’s a monster!” before later adding: “He’s a calm defender who never gets agitated.”

Transfermarkt currently value the Inter star at £45m, so it would be a considerable investment from Spurs but it’s one that could well be required if they are to change their fortunes at the back.

Conte desperately needs some leadership and there cannot be a better candidate than a player he knows better than most.

PSG end Richarlison pursuit

Everton have received a potentially significant boost after it was revealed Paris Saint-Germain have ended their pursuit of star forward Richarlison.

What’s the story?

In the final weeks of the summer transfer window, it was revealed that the Ligue 1 giants had identified the highly-rated 24-year-old as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

However, according to Spanish outlet El Espanol, PSG have now moved their attention to RB Salzburg attacker Karim Adeyemi after his incredible start to the campaign.

The report states that: “On the table was the Brazilian Richarlison, but Everton did not let him out. Now the main candidate is Karim Adeyemi, from Salzburg and sought after throughout Europe after adding 15 in 22 games so far this season.”

Everton fans will be buzzing

News that the Parisians are no longer believed to be interested in acquiring Richarlison’s services will leave Everton fans buzzing with excitement, given his importance to the club.

As per WhoScored, the Brazil international bagged seven goals in his 34 Premier League appearances last term, averaging 2.4 shots per game and 1.8 dribbles, placing him in the top two for each metric amongst his teammates.

In the current campaign, a knee complaint has kept him sidelined for several weeks, but he’s still managed three goal contributions in just seven outings, highlighting his influence over proceedings.

And Richarlison’s integral nature to Everton’s success has only been exaggerated this term.

Key striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is facing a lengthy spell on the treatment table following a setback in his recovery from a quadricep injury while his replacement Salomon Rondon has been hugely underwhelming.

Calvert-Lewin was the Blues’ top scorer last season and Rondon hasn’t come close to replacing the Englishman’s output, failing to find the back of the net in any of his seven outings.

Therefore, the threat of Richarlison departing in January could have ended any realistic hopes Everton had of finishing in a European qualification spot come May, changing the outlet of their season completely.

As a result, this latest revelation will be met with a huge sigh of relief on Mersyside, and everyone associated with the club will be hoping to see Richarlison pull on their famous blue jersey many more times in the years to come.
