Fabrizio Romano: Ipswich Town now agree £20m deal to sign another new star

Ipswich Town look set to add to their squad once again this summer after agreeing another deal to sign an exciting attacker.

It has been a very busy summer for the Tractor Boys, as Kieran McKenna and the club’s board have done everything they can to give Ipswich the best chance of remaining in the Premier League. Their campaign didn’t get off to the best of starts as they were beaten by Liverpool last weekend, and it may not get much better as they travel to face Manchester City this weekend.

However, McKenna and Ipswich will be keen to enjoy the ride, and they know their chances of staying in the Premier League are not going to rest on whether they beat the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

Ipswich transfer news

Given that Ipswich were in League One two seasons ago, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to see the club making several changes to their playing squad as they try to be equipped for the season ahead. McKenna’s side have been excellent in the last few seasons, dominating League One and then the Championship, but the Ipswich boss will know that more quality and experience are needed if they are to survive in the top flight.

Therefore, the club has been busy getting new players through the door, with them so far signing nine players in this transfer window. Some of those additions include Omari Hutchinson, Liam Delap, Jacob Greaves, Sammie Szmodics, and Kalvin Phillips.

However, they are not stopping there, as Ipswich have agreed to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja, as reported earlier this week. The forward is considered unwanted at Stamford Bridge and has been training with the club’s under-21s. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham, but it wasn’t considered a successful loan spell.

The forward is now set to arrive at Portman Road on a season-long loan deal, with Ipswich having an obligation to sign Broja for £30 million, should they not be relegated to the Championship. But as well as bringing Broja to the club, Ipswich could also be bringing in another exciting attacking player.

Ipswich Town set to sign Jack Clarke

According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Ipswich have also agreed a deal which will see them sign Sunderland winger Jack Clarke. The Italian transfer expert states that the deal is now at the “here we go” stage, with the fee said to be worth around £20 million.

Romano goes on to add that Sunderland have secured a sell-on clause as part of the deal that will see Clarke move to Portman Road. The 23-year-old has been with the Black Cats on a permanent basis since July 2022, joining from Tottenham Hotspur, but he also spent the second half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan at the Stadium of Light.

Clarke has played 114 times for the Championship side, during which he has scored 28 goals and assisted 23 more. He has already played twice for the club this season in the league and has scored one goal as well as grabbing a single assist.

The winger has received many plaudits during his time playing in the Championship, with Adrian Clarke the latest to describe the player as "unplayable" on the What the EFL?! Podcast.

David Bedingham thrives on post-Brexit discomfort to power Durham once more

Batsman has chance to further extend career-best innings after dominating Derbyshire rookies

David Hopps22-Apr-2021Durham 307 for 4 (Bedingham 170*, Burnham 75, Conners 3-54) vs Derbyshire When David Bedingham was unveiled as a Durham player before the start of last season, he abandoned hopes of an international future with South Africa with the conviction that he was about to make his life in England. It caused his coach at Cape Cobras, Ashwell Prince, to complain: “We can’t keep pretending there is nothing wrong.”Brexit might have changed all that, as it has for many South Africans who can no longer use county cricket as such a certain pathway to a life in England – Graeme van Buuren being the latest to get wrapped up in red tape. With the disqualification of Kolpak players from county cricket came the ECB’s pronouncement that they would no longer accept the ancestral visas on which Bedingham hoped to depend. The bar is higher now.Bedingham must now make it in county cricket as an overseas player and, judging by his magnificent start to the season, he is capable of doing just that. A career-best 180 not out against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in the opening round has now been followed by an unbeaten 170 against Derbyshire on his home turf – and the chance to extend that CB on the second morning. The additional pressure appears to have been the making of him.”I was just happy to have a job at Durham,” he said. “Brexit happening didn’t help my case. Hopefully, I can justify it with more runs.”Derbyshire will view life a little differently. As well as he played, they should have run Bedingham out with only a single to his name. When Alex Lees jabbed Sam Conners into the covers and changed his mind about a single, Bedingham was more than halfway towards him, but Fynn Hudson-Prentice, valued above all for his reliability, sent a throw wildly off target when he should have been run out comfortably at the bowler’s end. From that point on, Bedingham batted with aplomb, picking off Derbyshire’s attack with simplicity. He had a scare on 76 when he edged Luis Reece between wicketkeeper and slip, but it was a rare blemish for a player who has now overtaken Yorkshire’s Adam Lyth as the leading run-maker in the country. This youthful Derbyshire attack is learning on the job this season – the know-how of the veterans Ravi Rampaul and Tony Palladino is no longer available – but there was enough quality to suggest that Bedingham, 27 today, can prosper against better attacks and still might have an international future if he so desires. It will be interesting to see whether the likes of Harmer, in particular, and Bedingham, now their future in county cricket is as overseas players, attempt a reverse-ferret and seek out an international pathway with South Africa. Even allowing for the complexities of diversity quotas, South Africa do have a chance to reverse the drain to England that has debilitated their cricket.Related

From repairing roads to building bridges: Jack Burnham battles back after drugs ban

David Bedingham, Ned Eckersley hundreds give Durham control

Brexit paperwork delay leaves Graeme van Buuren in Gloucestershire limbo

There was another encouraging innings for Durham on this opening day. Jack Burnham has had a thin time since he returned for the 2019 season after a year-long ban for three failed drugs tests in a single season. He had not made a half-century in any format since his 86 against Leicestershire in August 2019, although he batted with resolve in a losing cause against the champions, Essex, last week. And while Burnham was not as accomplished as Bedingham – he can look fidgety at the crease – it is probably a while since he has hit a shot with such authority as when he deposited Matt Critchley’s legspin over midwicket in to the north-west stand. Regrettably for him, he was soon afflicted by a back spasm which was a poor sort of reward.Critchley’s legspin had an unrewarding day after his eight wickets in the match against Worcestershire last week – the most expensive of the Derbyshire attack, he was picked off at will – but he did console himself with Burnham’s wicket, drawing him down the pitch for a catch at the wicket that could just as easily have been a stumping.Perhaps Derbyshire will not be the only county to come to The Riverside this season and conclude that things have changed. The entire square has been relaid – pools of water tended to congregate in the centre of the old one like in a soggy tarpaulin, and the pitches for the Blast were hardly conducive to good entertainment, so the need to upgrade was a pressing one. Blue skies helped give Durham the confidence to bat and it was a wise choice. Until the square beds in, there could be a lot of sedate surfaces like this one and scores could rise substantially as a result.Conners did pilfer a couple of new-ball wickets before the batsmen took control. Will Young’s unrewarding start to the season continued when he fell to a full-length outswinger, Scott Borthwick got a first-baller in his first Riverside innings since his return as captain – lbw to a ball that came back – and Conners, who also had Lees dropped at second slip, cartwheeled Lees’ off stump in his second spell.Conners is the pick of this young Derbyshire attack, a work in progress, but a work progressing along strong lines. He has won praise in the past from Jimmy Anderson and at times he might be a lookalike: one photo of him celebrating a wicket last week could have been of Anderson’s (much) younger twin. There was also a debut for George Scrimshaw, a lanky seam bowler who hails from Burton-on-Trent. Scrimshaw still awaits his first wicket, but he has already been honoured by his first mention from Derbyshire’s statistician David Griffin, a rite of passage. While some of you might have settled for reflecting that “George Scrimshaw” was a Derbyshire-sounding name, Griffin revealed that “George” was the third most common Christian name for Derbyshire players, there had not been one since 1967 and even he was known by his middle name, Bob (Bob Stephenson, since you asked).”It is just the way my head works,” he said.

Celtic considering move for "outstanding" England Under-20 international

Celtic are believed to be considering a move for an "outstanding" young forward during the summer transfer window, according to a new update from journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Celtic transfer news

The Hoops have made a flying start to the defence of their Scottish Premiership crown, winning their opening two matches, but supporters will still be dreaming of more new signings coming in this month.

Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark has been linked with a move to Celtic a number of times this summer, with the Scottish giants believed to have been tracking him for as long as "four or five months".

Speaking about the situation, journalist Mark Guidi said: "From what I know, that is a genuine interest. It’s (a) real interest. It’s something that’s been on the radar for four or five months, from what I can gather. Again, from what I can gather, the boy is certainly interested to learn more if Liverpool are willing to let him go."

Another report has claimed that the Hoops have made contact with Crystal Palace midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp over a move to Parkhead before the end of August. The 31-year-old is out of contract at Selhurst Park next summer, meaning this is the last chance for the Eagles to receive a fee for him.

Celtic are still fighting to keep hold of Matt O'Riley this summer, with four separate bids rejected from Europa League winners Atalanta. It sounds as though the Serie A side aren't done yet, though, with a fifth offer expected to arrive in the near future.

Celtic considering move for "outstanding" player

Taking to X, O'Rourke claimed that Celtic are showing an interest in signing Norwich City youngster Abu Kamara this summer, with the Hoops "monitoring" the England Under-20 forward.

Kamara has the potential to be an exciting young addition for the Hoops this season, having caught the eye on loan at Portsmouth last season, winning the League One title and sealing promotion to the Championship.

The 21-year-old scored eight goals and registered 10 assists in the league, starting 37 matches and appearing in every single game in the competition, while Pompey assistant manager Jon Harley heaped praise on him.

"Abs’ form recently has been outstanding, he’s such a great lad, he wants to learn and is really humble. The way we play, we want to try to isolate him one-v-one because, as a full-back myself, I would hate to play against him. I am sure every full-back would do in that position."

Whether Norwich are willing to sell Kamara permanently or on loan this summer remains to be seen, but if Celtic were able to bring him in for good, he could mature into a fantastic attacking prospect as the years pass, capable of impressing on both attacking flanks and down the middle.

Nottingham Forest have hit gold on ace who’s worth more than Silva & Sosa

Nottingham Forest have conducted some excellent business in the transfer market since promotion to the top flight ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, signing players at a great price before selling them for a profit.

Orel Mangala joined the Reds ahead of the first campaign for a fee in the region of £12m, before leaving on loan in January before signing permanently for French side Lyon for a combined £30m after his loan and transfer fee.

Moussa Niakhate moved to Lyon earlier this summer, following in the Belgian’s footsteps, moving in a £27m deal – a move that secured the club an £18m profit on the fee they paid for him just two years prior.

After such a huge amount of money was brought into the club, Forest have looked to strengthen in numerous key areas, with boss Nuno Espírito Santo still looking to add to his squad despite his six first-team additions this summer.

Nottingham Forest transfer news

Earlier this week, the Reds secured a deal to sign Portuguese winger Jota Silva from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes on a four-year deal.

The 25-year-old made his debut for his national side during the previous international break as a result of his excellent performances and figures which saw him register 11 goals and five assists in the Liga Portugal.

Jota Silva

The forward could be joined in the East Midlands by another attacker, with the Reds still hunting for reinforcements in the final third despite the recent arrival of Silva.

In recent days, Forest have seen a progression in talks with Argentinian side Tallares over a potential deal to see Paraguayan wideman Ramon Sosa move to the City Ground.

However, they do face tough competition from fellow Premier League sides Fulham, Wolves and Everton for his signature – with the 24-year-old a man in demand this summer.

Despite the interest elsewhere, reports – via Sport Witness – have claimed that Forest hold the edge and that a move is seemingly edging closer to completion, with Sosa potentially travelling to the UK to agree a deal in the coming days.

Their respective transfers could follow one current Reds star who has excelled after his move from a lower-quality division to the Premier League.

Murillo’s market value in 2024

After joining the club from Corinthians in a £15m deal last summer, Brazilian centre-back Murillo has excelled at the City Ground – exceeding all expectations.

He’s made 32 consecutive league starts, winning the club’s Player of the Year award, prompting huge interest from all over Europe.

PSG, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid are just some of the sides who have been linked with a move for the talent this summer, with the Reds demanding a club-record fee to prise him away from the City Ground this summer.

As a result of his excellent progress since his move to England, his market value has soared to a staggering £38m, as per Transfermarkt – a £23m increase on what they paid for his services less than 12 months ago.

Murillo

His subsequent value is higher than the combined price of Sosa and Silva, whose rumoured price tag of £12m and fee of £5.9m, respectively, only adds up to £17.9m.

The Brazilian’s transfer is an example of the excellent recruitment currently taking place at the City Ground, with Nuno and the fanbase hoping that the two aforementioned players can have a similar impact in the near future.

In a time when FFP and PSR limits are tight, the hierarchy must get these transfers right, with the club needing to take a gamble on foreign talents to improve the club’s standing whilst making them a huge profit down the line.

Barcelona player ratings vs Real Madrid: Robert Lewandowski is the king: Striker outshines Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr as Lamine Yamal and Raphinha complete Clasico humiliation

The Pole's brace helped fire the visitors to an incredible win

Robert Lewandowski's brace early in the second half inspired Barcelona to a famous 4-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu to send them six points clear in La Liga.

It was clear from the start that tactics were going to play a big part in this one, with Hansi Flick's high defensive line catching Madrid offside seven times in the opening 30 minutes alone. That included a goal for Kylian Mbappe being chalked off. There was a similar moment at 2-0 in the second half.

The space in behind the back four was a source of potential danger to Barca. But they were able to create their own chances, with a one-on-one for Lamine Yamal and a strike from distance from Pedri, both saved by Andriy Lunin, the closest they came to scoring before half-time.

Where Barca had been able to routinely catch Madrid offside, Lewandowski beat the trap 10 minutes into the second half and stroked the ball into the bottom corner beyond the reach of Lunin. He showcased his generational striker instincts only two minutes later when he planted an unstoppable header into the same corner. This, after mostly being on periphery until then.

The foot of the post denied the Pole his hat-trick, in isolation a poor miss with an open goal at his mercy after a square pass from Raphinha, but it mattered little when Yamal slammed in a stunning third and a route one ball over the top handed Raphinha a fourth.

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    Inaki Pena (8/10):

A little erratic. Positioning and distribution not always brilliant, but made two huge saves to deny Mbappe in the second half.

    Jules Kounde (7/10):

Had his work cut out against Vinicius Junior. No match for the Brazilian's movement or pace, yet he was well in tune with the rest of the back four when it came to triggering the offside trap.

    Pau Cubarsi (7/10):

The space in behind him and Kounde was a concern in the first half more than the second. Clean in his passing.

    Inigo Martinez (7/10):

Seemed to have his side of the back four a little more locked down, despite the threat of Mbappe.

    Alejandro Balde (7/10):

It was a beautifully flighted cross that set up Barcelona's second goal. Got forward well on other occasions.

    Midfield

    Marc Casado (8/10):

Took a first half booking for the good for a tactical foul on Vinicius Jr. to stop a breakaway. It was necessary dirty work, but he also did the other side of game well with a defence-splitting pass that set up the breakthrough goal.

    Fermin Lopez (4/10):

Given the nod in the big game over summer signing Dani Olmo, but hardly saw the ball and didn't return after half-time.

    Pedri (7/10):

Got a nasty bang to the ankle midway through the first half but it didn't seem to really affect him.

    Attack

    Lamine Yamal (8/10):

Lost the battle of wits with Lunin in the one-on-one situation. Looked lively in general but things didn't fully click into place for him until his sensational goal late on.

    Robert Lewandowski (9/10):

Found himself waiting for service to come but then buried his first clear sight of goal. Got his second mere moments later by taking up a position between the centre-backs where neither could get to him.

    Raphinha (8/10):

Quieter than recent weeks for 75 minutes but made it five straight games across all competitions with at least two goal involvements by setting up Yamal and scoring himself.

Eventually appeared in place of Casado just over an hour in.

    Gavi (6/10):

    Replaced Pedri late on.

    Hansi Flick (9/10):

The high defensive line and offside trap was such a risky tactic given the pace of the Real forwards. But it absolutely worked and this will go down as a famous Barcelona win.

BJ Watling and Kyle Jamieson put New Zealand ahead

Pakistan’s discipline with ball and bat, however, ensured the hosts haven’t run away with the game

Karthik Krishnaswamy27-Dec-2020The wicket of Shan Masood late in the evening ensured New Zealand remained the happier team at Mount Maunganui, but Pakistan put in a second impressive day on an improved batting pitch to ensure the hosts haven’t run away with the game just yet.Having bowled New Zealand out 11 overs after tea for 431, Pakistan were left needing to negotiate a tricky 20 overs before stumps, and they came close to getting through that period unscathed, only for Shan Masood to tickle Kyle Jamieson for a catch down leg side in the 16th over, having seen out 41 balls until then.Watch cricket on ESPN+

New Zealand vs Pakistan is available in the US on ESPN+. Subscribe to ESPN+ and tune in to the series

Masood had offered the only chance until that point, driving well in front of his body against a Tim Southee delivery that swung back less than he anticipated, and edging to third slip, where the substitute fielder Daryl Mitchell put down a tough low chance. That and the wicket ball apart, there were few alarms for Pakistan against New Zealand’s pace attack, with Abid Ali looking particularly impressive with his judgment outside off and his alertness to pounce on scoring opportunities. He ended the day batting on 19, with the nightwatchman Mohammad Abbas alongside.Apart from the visual evidence of the ball swinging and seaming far less than it had done on day one, there was numerical evidence to support the idea that the pitch was getting better to bat on. Where New Zealand’s batsmen achieved a control percentage of 76 through the first 20 overs of their innings, Pakistan’s top three went at 88.Rather than seam movement, the main threat from this pitch now seems to be the increased frequency of uncertain bounce – low bounce in particular – and sharp turn for the spinners. Yasir Shah picked up three wickets in New Zealand’s first innings, and he could become hugely influential if Pakistan can get close to New Zealand’s first-innings total. They’ll have to contend with Mitchell Santner’s left-arm spin before that, however, and the continued threat of New Zealand’s quicks – especially the effect of uncertain bounce on Neil Wagner’s short ball.Wagner bowled three overs before stumps, despite having suffered a painful blow to the toe from a Shaheen Afridi yorker while batting. Wagner is set to have his foot x-rayed after the day’s play, and New Zealand will hope it won’t reveal any major damage. That yorker from Shaheen followed another that burst through Wagner’s defences to bowl him, only for replays to show the bowler had overstepped. Wagner contributed 19 to a lower-order effort that stretched New Zealand’s total to 431 after Pakistan had reduced them to 317 for 6 at one stage.BJ Watling drives one towards point•Getty ImagesChief architects of the lower-order fight were the tiny-and-towering pair of BJ Watling and Jamieson, who added 66 for the seventh wicket in 22 overs to build on the efforts of the upper middle order, in particular Kane Williamson who completed his 23rd Test hundred earlier in the day.Their partnership, which spanned 22 overs, came to an end in the third over before tea, when Mohammad Abbas extracted bounce and an unusual amount of seam movement in the corridor to get Jamieson to nick off. It was one of a handful of deliveries that had moved as much all day, and it brought Abbas a much-deserved first wicket in his 29th over of the innings.Until then, Watling and Jamieson had looked mostly untroubled against all of Pakistan’s bowlers, save for a brief period early in the partnership when Yasir was engaged in a cat-and-mouse contest against Jamieson. The legspinner dared Jamieson to hit over the top with a series of loopy tempters – there were two towering sixes, but also a wild slog and miss – and wrong-footed him on a couple of occasions with his quicker skidder, with an inside edge saving the crease-bound batsman from a possible lbw on one occasion.Other than that, though, Jamieson showed the same gifts of technique and composure that had brought him scores of 44, 49, 51* and 20 in his four previous Test innings, and got into good positions to defend the faster bowlers in particular. At the other end, Watling was typically compact in defence while cashing in quickly whenever there was width on offer. He was also adept in getting off strike against Yasir, waiting for the line to drift either side of the stumps to get down on one knee and sweep. There were a couple of flowing drives too, most impressively an effortless straight punch off Faheem Ashraf that beat a diving mid-on to his left. He was finally dismissed for 73, getting cramped for room while trying to ramp a short ball over the slips, handing Afridi his fourth wicket.Abbas and Afridi began the day with a seven-over-old ball, but neither found any swing, and what seam movement there was was minimal.Their lines, as a result, were more defensive than on day one, wider outside off in an attempt to play on the batsmen’s patience. Neither of the overnight batsmen lacked that quality, and Williamson, on 94 overnight, waited until his 14th ball of the morning to add to his score.Kane Williamson acknowledges his home crowd after bringing up his 23rd Test hundred•AFP via Getty ImagesPakistan made their first bowling change in the eighth over of the morning, and that gave Williamson the opportunity to bring up his hundred, with Naseem Shah overpitching and allowing him to unfurl the most pleasing of drives to bisect extra-cover and mid-off. This was Williamson’s first Test hundred in his hometown, and having brought it up he immediately switched gears, having sussed out that there was little in the pitch to threaten him.He began driving balls that weren’t quite half-volleys, picking up two off-side fours in this manner off successive balls from Abbas, and then beat mid-off to his left with a back-foot punch off Naseem, finishing with left elbow high and both feet off the ground. Having taken 261 balls to bring up his hundred – his slowest in Test cricket – Williamson had scored 20 off his next 20.But Pakistan clawed their way back, with a bit of luck finally going their way with the dismissal of Henry Nicholls, after he had extended his overnight partnership with Williamson from 89 to 133. Pakistan had been trying to attack Nicholls with the short ball, and Naseem produced a loud caught-behind shout when he hurried the batsman through a hook from around the wicket. It was given out, perhaps because there seemed to be two noises, and Nicholls, after a lengthy consultation with his partner, declined to review, only for replays to show the ball had brushed both his forearms without hitting bat or glove. Then Pakistan brought on Yasir in the 18th over of the day, and he struck with his third ball, drawing Williamson forward with his flight, and finding the edge of his defensive bat with dip, turn and bounce. As with most Williamson edges, the ball barely carried, but Haris Sohail took a sharp one-handed catch diving to his right – it was referred upstairs by the on-field umpires, who made a soft signal of not-out, but replays showed that Sohail had got his fingers underneath the ball as he fell.Watling and Mitchell Santner then added 36 before Ashraf struck in the eighth over after lunch, getting him caught behind after preying on Santner’s tendency to play angled-bat shots to rising balls in the corridor.

Man Utd make move for £16k-p/w striker, they’ve already had a response

Manchester United are stepping up their chase for a new striker this summer, and have already had an answer back as they look to land one of their targets.

Hojlund needs support

Signed by Erik ten Hag last summer, Rasmus Hojlund enjoyed a mixed first season at Old Trafford. The Dane enjoyed a purple patch in the middle of the campaign, but suffered poor runs either side, with nine of his 12 Premier League goal contributions coming in a seven week stint between December and February.

Still just 21-years-old, he was often asked to plough a lonely furrow but showed plenty of promise. However, he is now the only recognised striker on the Manchester United books after Anthony Martial confirmed his departure as a free agent this summer.

It has left the Red Devils in need of a new striker, and they were dealt a blow on that front when target Benjamin Sesko signed a new deal to keep him at RB Lezipig this summer, scuppering any hopes of luring him to Old Trafford.

As a result, they have been forced to look elsewhere, and with new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen to avoid past mistakes, they are on the hunt for a younger player who can share the role with Hojlund and who will offer fewer fitness issues than Martial, all while demanding a reasonable salary.

United handed answer over 21 year-old

That comes as Sports Bild have revealed (via Sport Witness) that United are one of the sides keen on 21-year-old attacker Maximilian Beier, who is also thought to be attracting attention from Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool.

The Hoffenheim youngster enjoyed a breakout campaign, scoring 16 times in 33 outings across the German top flight last season, and was rewarded with a call up to the German national side, making his debut in the most recent round of June internationals and doing enough to earn a spot in the squad for the upcoming EURO 2024 in his home country.

Hoffenheim’s sporting director, Alexander Rosen, has heavily praised the youngster, claiming that: “Maxi Beier is a super guy and an extremely talented striker. He is incredibly fast, dangerous and can kick really well.”

And United have made the 'first move' for his signature this summer, it has been claimed, with the Red Devils asking Hoffenheim what terms would be required to sign the rising star.

He could be the perfect competition for Hojlund.

And they already have a response too, with Hoffenheim reportedly pointing to his 32.5m euro (£27.4m) release clause as a guide price to snatch him away this summer. He will be cheaper next summer, with said clause believed to drop by 2.5m euros every summer across the three remaining years of his £16k per week deal with the German outfit.

As with summer tournaments, a strong performance at EURO 2024 could see a rush of clubs join the queue for his signature, which may leave United wanting to get a deal done sooner rather than later if they are serious about their interest.
