THE RECORDS KANE HAS BROKEN
With his brace against Frankfurt, Kane reached 400 career goals, and eclipsed his single-season goalscoring mark – with 42 for the campaign. The England captain also became the first Bundesliga debutant to score or assist against every team he faced.

Kane is within touching distance of another significant milestone: Robert Lewandowski's single-season Bundesliga goalscoring record. He needs six goals in his next three games to eclipse the mark.

WHAT MARTINO SAID ABOUT MESSI
Inter Miami boss Tata Martino told reporters afterwards when asked for an update on Messi: “What Leo did is what he always does, how he affects our team, all his team-mates, the fans, and the most important thing is he felt comfortable, he felt good, he felt loose, and that’s why it’s a shame to have to give up two points.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Messi had not figured for club or country since March 13 due to a hamstring complaint, with no risks being taken on the Argentine as Inter Miami look to compete on multiple fronts. Martino added on having the all-time great back after testing MLS and CONCACAF Champions Cup fixtures: “We know it was a risk for him to play the first game against Monterrey. We knew, well we planned, because there are variables, that he would play some minutes today. We thought 30-45 minutes. He felt good. This helps us to arrive at the game (against Monterrey) next Wednesday with more confidence regarding his injury.”

WHAT NEXT FOR MESSI & INTER MIAMI?
Having eased Messi back into the fold, and seen him make another important contribution to the collective cause, the expectation is that he will play a more prominent role when Inter Miami look to overturn a 2-1 first leg deficit in their Champions Cup quarter-final clash with Monterrey.

One club's "lion" of a defender is apparently readying a January exit and Tottenham Hotspur are a very possible destination for him.
Spurs thriving without Kane
Ange Postecoglou is a man growing ever more popular in the Spurs dugout as the weeks go by. The 58-year-old has enjoyed an absolutely brilliant start to life in north London, with his side still unbeaten after winning eight out of a possible 10 top flight games. It's the best start ever made by a new manager in the Premier League, and this is all being achieved without star striker and club-record goalscorer Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich in the summer.
Wins over Bournemouth, Man United, Burnley, Sheffield United, Liverpool, Luton Town, Fulham and Crystal Palace have cemented Spurs' place at the top of the table, with Kane recently expressing his delight at his former club's electric start to the new season.
"I have made it clear my whole career I am a Tottenham fan and I would love to see Tottenham do well," he said at a press conference with England," said Kane on Tottenham's form.
"It's great to see. I think I've said before, the manager is doing great for them with the way they're playing. The fans are right behind the team and it's definitely what they needed after the last few years. I'll always keep an eye on Spurs and the Premier League. There is no other team in the Premier League I would want to win than Tottenham.
"I have to be respectful to Bayern Munich and of course, the fans know I will always have a soft spot for Spurs – there is no question about that. Of course, I hope [Tottenham] do as well as possible but my main attention is where I am now and trying to perform for Bayern."
Next up, the Lilywhites take on Chelsea next Monday, in what will be a great opportunity for Spurs to inflict more pain on former manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Nelsson "preparing to leave" and could join Spurs
Despite Tottenham's exceptional form without Kane, the north Londoners are believed to be chasing more additions to bolster Postecoglou's options at the back. They're arguably bereft of quality behind centre-back pairing Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, so much so that Spurs have eyes on another defender this January. Tottenham are interested in Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah as an option, while Galatasaray's Victor Nelsson is a Spurs transfer target too.
Denmark'sVictorNelssonin action
According to Turkish newspaper Aksam, it is now believed Nelsson is "preparing to leave" Galatasaray this January, and Spurs are a possible destination for the Denmark international. Both Arsenal and Ajax stand out as other mooted landing spots for Nelsson, who looks set for the exit door in what will be a "club-record" transfer.
While his future is now far away from the club, there has been praise for Nelsson and his performances in recent years, with the 25-year-old being called a "lion" by Galatasaray board member Resit Omer Kukner.

"Dear Victor Nelsson, You are Galatasaray's first Danish player," said Kukner on X.
"Beside being a great athlete devoted to his Club, your attitude on and off the pitch is winning hearts of millions. Your jersey gesture after the match is beyond description. You are our Danish lion."
The Gunners' transfer activity has been questioned this season, but most of their new arrivals have been outstanding in recent weeks
If David Raya hadn't come up with two stunning saves in Arsenal's penalty shootout victory over Porto on Tuesday night, there's a decent chance that the red half of north London would've spontaneously combusted in a fit of frustrated rage.
Across the two legs of this Champions League last-16 tie, the Portuguese side hit the Gunners with every flavour of sh*thousery imaginable, leaving fans, staff and players rattled beyond belief. Ultimately, though, despite their cynical efforts, Arsenal would be the ones who booked their place in the quarter-finals, with Raya having a huge hand – quite literally – in their historic victory.
Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his No.1, revealing that he was not surprised that the Spaniard refused to wilt under the pressure: "I was convinced that was going to be the case. You see him those first few days here, what he had to go through and how he did it with that composure. You look at his body language and the decisions that he takes, he doesn’t get very affected. That’s a key quality for that position."

Ramsdale snub attracted criticism
That Raya would turn out to be the match-winner was further vindication of Arteta's brutal and brave decision to move on from Aaron Ramsdale as his first-choice goalkeeper in the summer.
That move was not widely popular at the time, both within sections of the fanbase and in the media. Raya wasn't immediately inserted into the starting XI, not making his Premier League debut until September, but once he made that maiden bow, it soon became clear that he was now Arteta's go-to option between the sticks, despite the coach outlining a utopian vision where the pair would rotate – perhaps even during a game.
Arteta was criticised by a host of media figures for his ruthlessness, including David Seaman and Peter Schmeichel, with Ramsdale's father even infamously chipping in with some harsh words.

Arteta's ruthlessness rewarded
However, after some shakiness early on, Raya has more than proved that he is an upgrade on the man he replaced in goal. Most obviously, the Spaniard has facilitated a marked improvement in how Arsenal have dealt with balls into the box this season. No Premier League goalkeeper has claimed a higher percentage of crosses (14.9%) they have faced this term, with Ramsdale racking up a figure of just 5.8% in 2022-23.
Raya is far more comfortable in the build-up phase too. His pass completion numbers are superior to Ramsdale's last season, while his quick throws and goal-kicks regularly create good opportunities for his team-mates.
Despite this, if there was any question mark remaining over Raya's superiority over Ramsdale, it would be shot-stopping. Neither goalkeeper is among the absolute best in the world in this area, but on Tuesday, the ex-Brentford man proved he can be relied upon to come up with game-settling stops.

Written into Arsenal folklore
Even before the penalty shootout began, Raya was called into action, saving well from Evanilson in the first half and Francisco Conceicao in the second. When his big moment came, he relished it, diving down to his left to keep out Wendell and Galeno's efforts from 12 yards, while also getting something Marko Grujic's spot-kick.
Raya was understandably delighted at full-time, saying: "This means everything. You play football for these kind of things and I'm lucky to be playing for Arsenal, to be in the Champions League and to get through to the quarter-finals. We're just going to enjoy the night."
Securing their passage into the last eight for the first time in 14 years is a massive moment for the club, and finally winning a European knockout game at the Emirates (after five previous, unsuccessful attempts) ensured Arteta got a sizeable monkey off his back. That it was one of his most-maligned signings who got them there will only make the victory sweeter.

Jorginho still has that magic
Raya is not the only of Arteta's recruits who have been proving their doubters wrong recently, too. When Jorginho arrived at the club in January 2023, there were concerns. Arsenal had had their fingers burnt recruiting aging Chelsea players in the past and supporters were frustrated that the Gunners hadn't managed to secure their top midfield target: Moises Caicedo.
The Italian's slow start to life at the Emirates did little to quell this disappointment, either. He was even linked with Fenerbahce last summer and made a poor error in the Gunners' underwhelming north London derby draw in September.
After that, Jorginho looked set to be consigned to the status of bit-part player under Arteta. However, more recently, the midfielder has stepped up with a string of player-of-the-match performances. He was vital in unpicking Sevilla's stubborn defence at the Emirates in November, and was absolutely brilliant when the Gunners romped to a 3-1 victory over Liverpool in February.

A win for Rajasthan Royals will make them genuine contenders for the playoffs, but a loss will leave them in a similar difficult position to Daredevils

Big PictureWe are reaching a stage in the IPL where a defeat can all but eliminate some of the sides. Barring extreme circumstances, with four points from eight matches, Delhi Daredevils, who will be happier coming back home after their defeat in Pune, need to win all their remaining six matches. Or at least five of them. If they do manage to make this match one of those five or six, it will leave their opponents Rajasthan Royals in a similar situation. They still sit at less than 50% success rate, with three wins in seven matches. A win for Royals will put them at No. 4 alongside Kolkata Knight Riders, and make them genuine contenders to make the playoffs. Needless to say, margin for error for either side is minimal.Daredevils are only just recovering from what turned out to be a mistake: having Gautam Gambhir as captain and opening batsman. The rejigged side after his stepping down looks a bigger threat to the opposition. Royals themselves are benefitting from Jofra Archer’s inclusion two matches ago.

To say that Everton have endured a difficult start to the season would be an understatement. The Toffees have picked up just one point, and that came against newly-promoted Sheffield United. Before that point against the Blades, Sean Dyche's side failed to avoid defeat in their opening three games, suffering defeats against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, and Fulham.
Out of every Premier League side, it was Everton who likely needed the international break to recoup the most. And, with a break from club football, Dyche will hope to have finally got his team organised ahead of their first game back against a challenging Arsenal side.
The Merseyside club have at least received a takeover boost recently, with reports suggesting that 777 Partners are close to agreeing a full takeover of the club. Kevin Hatchard has revealed why Everton fans should approach the deal with caution, however.
What has Kevin Hatchard said?
Speaking on the potential takeover, Hatchard delivered a strong verdict, and one that may worry Everton fans. If any club needed a takeover, it was the Toffees, but the Sky Sports journalist has revealed why 777 Partners may not help those at Goodison Park realise their dreams.
Taking to Twitter, Hatchard said: "I understand that efc fans will be thrilled at the prospect of a takeover, but 777 Partners should probably be viewed with caution. Of their current stable, Hertha relegated, Genoa relegated and then promoted, Vasco da Gama in the dropzone and Standard Liege fans protesting.
"There's also something really sad about such an important community institution being just another part of a multi-club ownership model. I know that's the way football's heading, but I disagree strongly with the ethos behind it. The football authorities shouldn't ever allow it.
"I'd actually really like Everton to get owners who care about the club and will listen to fans' concerns. I'm just not sure this is the right solution, but I guess we'll see. That's before you even get to the US court papers detailing allegations of fraud and other offences."
Who are 777 Partners?
Goodison Park
Should 777 Partners complete their takeover of Everton, it would not be their first rodeo in football, and that can be both a positive and negative. Positively speaking, they at least have experience in this field, they know what can go wrong, and should, therefore, know how to avoid any calamitous moments.
On the other hand, as explained by Hatchard, their experiences at other clubs are far from ones to remember, with a pattern of relegation and fan discontent. But, with a large amount of investment still reportedly needed for their new stadium, Everton may just have to trust that the Miami-based firm have what it takes to turn the club around.
Having reportedly been accused of fraud and breach of contract by former employee Timothy O’Neil-Dunne, however, as per The Guardian, there are doubts over whether 777 Partners will pass the Premier League's owners and directors test, which can block people from becoming directors if they are under investigation for conduct that would result in a “disqualifying event” if proven.
