THE BIGGER PICTURE
City have been in rancid form in recent weeks and have won just one of their last five games. They currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and have conceded 26 goals in 19 games; no other team in the top six has shipped as many. They are also 14 points behind leaders Liverpool, leading Guardiola to concede that they cannot win the Premier League title.
DID YOU KNOW?
There has never been an Uzbek footballer in the Premier League and Khusanov would become the first were he to move to City. He has 18 caps for his country at the age of 20.

City will hope to strengthen their squad this month as they aim to climb the Premier League table and get back into Champions League qualification contention. They face West Ham this weekend.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been an excellent servant for Everton during his eight-year stint at Goodison Park.
The striker joined the club in a £1.5m deal from Sheffield United back in the summer of 2016, going on to score 68 times in his 247 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions.
Last season, he finished as the club’s joint top scorer alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure, helping Sean Dyche’s side secure their Premier League status despite being hit with a combined eight-point deduction.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin celebrates against Liverpool
He’s since been linked with various moves away from Merseyside this summer, with the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United just two of the sides touted with a move for the 27-year-old.
However, with the huge influx of new signings at Goodison during the off-season, he could see himself lose his starting role should Dyche and Co complete a deal to sign a talented youngster.
Everton could sign talented youngster this summer
According to Sky Sports Germany reporter, Everton are targeting a move to sign Barcelona forward Vitor Roque this summer.
The Toffees have already lodged an offer for the attacker but it has been rejected by the Spanish giants.
Roque only joined Barca back in January for a fee in the region of £52m including add-ons, but could only manage 16 appearances during the 2023/24 campaign, with only two coming from a starting role.
He managed to find the net on two occasions against Osasuna and Deportivo Alaves, averaging a goal every 160 minutes – a decent return that could see him make a huge impact at Goodison should he arrive.
The Brazilian has undeniable quality, with his potential move to Merseyside arguably resulting in fewer minutes for current centre-forward Calvert-Lewin.
Why Roque is a better option than Calvert-Lewin
Despite his impressive form last season, Calvert-Lewin could find himself as a victim of the club’s ambition to push towards a mid-table finish in the Premier League this season.
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Signings of talents such as Jake O’Brien and Iliman Ndiaye are examples of the added quality supplied by the hierarchy this summer, with Dyche needing all the tools to build on the impressive end to the previous campaign.
Roque could be the next in line at Goodison and when comparing his stats to the current Everton number nine, he’s dominated in numerous key metrics that could hand Dyche an added threat in attacking areas.
The “magnificent” Roque, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, may have scored fewer goals than Calvert-Lewin, but has averaged more goals and assists per 90 given his tally in significantly fewer minutes than the 27-year-old.

The Brazilian has also averaged more shots per 90, whilst posting a 7% higher shot-on-target accuracy rate than the Englishman – a key figure that could help Everton increase their Premier League goal tally of just 40 from 2023/24.
Barca talent Roque has also averaged a 17% higher pass completion rate, showcasing his ability to find a teammate and link up within the final third, handing wingers Ndiaye and Harrison with more frequent opportunities should he join the Toffees.
Whilst it may be a risk to splash the cash on a 19-year-old with no previous Premier League experience, his quality is there for all to see, allowing Dyche’s side to reach the next level.
He has an abundance of quality but has the potential to improve further given his tender age, with Everton needing to act quickly to segue his services amid interest from elsewhere.

Celtic are reportedly preparing an offer to sign a £15,000-a-week player who was recently in advanced talks with rivals Rangers.
Celtic and Rodgers eyeing “ready-made” player
The Hoops and Brendan Rodgers are yet to complete an outfield signing this summer, with goalkeepers Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo the only two official arrivals at Parkhead.
Celtic are expected to secure the permanent services of midfielder Paulo Bernardo, though, following a successful loan spell from Benfica last season.

There could be more to come after Bernardo, with Rodgers admitting back in February that the club want to be “brave” and target “another level of player” who is “ready-made”.
“I would go with supporters thinking we could maybe be a little bit braver in terms of bringing in another level of player. But that’s up to me to try and fix that over the course of my time here. You look at the strategy here and you have to be careful because in some ways it has worked. You bring in players for a minimal fee and then they go out and make the club a lot of money.
“What I want to hopefully balance in my time here is that we can still do that, because it is an important part of the modern game. But we also want to be brave enough to hang our hat on a ready-made player.”
Recent targets linked with moves to Celtic Park are Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland after his prolific form in front of goal, whereas Wolves full-back Hugo Bueno is also wanted on loan.
Now, it appears as if Celtic are readying a permanent offer to sign a Manchester United midfielder.
Celtic preparing Hannibal Mejbri offer
According to reports in Tunisia, relayed by Sport Witness, Celtic are ‘preparing to make an offer’ to sign Man Utd’s Hannibal Mejbri. The offer in question is expected to be a permanent bid, with the 21-year-old into the final 12 months of his Old Trafford deal.
Should Celtic sign Mejbri, on £15,000-a-week, they could deal rivals Rangers a real blow, with reports recently claiming that those at Ibrox were in advanced talks to sign the Tunisia international who was a priority target for Philippe Clement.
Mejbri, who can play as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder or right-winger, could be on the way to Parkhead instead, going off the recent update, although he is on United's pre-season tour in the USA.
The Red Devils man recently went on loan to Sevilla and prior to that, impressed with Birmingham City, where former manager John Eustace said: "The way he has played in the last couple of games has been phenomenal. He has broken records for total distance [covered], all that kind of stuff."
A move could be one to keep an eye on, with Mejbri potentially offering Rodgers a versatile midfield option who could go from strength to strength in Scotland.

Manager is yet to decide on his future

WHAT HAPPENED?
Alonso has been a revelation in German football since taking charge of Bayer Leverkusen. In the 2023-24 season, he guided the club to a remarkable Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, ending Bayern Munich's dominance in German football. This historic achievement brought widespread attention to the former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder, positioning him as a top managerial prospect for Europe's elite clubs. With Carlo Ancelotti struggling to find the right balance at the Santiago Bernabeu, there have been speculations that Alonso might replace the Italian in the Spanish capital next summer.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
However, according to no immediate decisions have been made and the timeframe for evaluating Alonso's future is set for March 2024. This timeline allows Leverkusen and Alonso to assess their respective plans thoroughly, with sufficient time to prepare for any transitions. Until then, the focus remains on the present.
DID YOU KNOW?
Leverkusen’s management, led by Spaniard Fernando Carro, will continue planning the team’s future regardless of Alonso’s eventual decision. The futures of standout players like Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong are not directly tied to Alonso’s status, with the club expected to determine transfer prices for their stars independently.

WHAT NEXT FOR ALONSO?
After their extraordinary success last season, Leverkusen have faced a tougher start to the 2024-25 campaign. They currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga table, trailing leaders Bayern Munich by nine points after just ten games. Their next Bundesliga fixture is a home match against Heidenheim on November 23, followed by a crucial Champions League clash with Red Bull Salzburg three days later.
Transfer business at Newcastle United has taken an unexpected turn in recent days, with the club desperately needing to sell players to avoid a potential points deduction for breaching the Premier League’s PSR rules.
Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak have both been touted with big-money moves away from St James’ Park, with Eddie Howe wanting to keep hold of his star players to mount another Champions League push this season.
As a result, the Magpies had to brutally part ways with two youngsters, just to meet the threshold, but making a tidy profit on the pair to satisfy the rules set out by the league.
Elliot Anderson for Newcastle
Yankuba Minteh left Tyneside after never making a single first-team appearance, whilst academy graduate Elliot Anderson also departed his boyhood club to join Nottingham Forest – a sale that is the second-highest in Newcastle’s history.
The two transfers generated a combined £68m for the club, but Howe’s side will be able to generate even more profit should they offload one player who’s struggled in the Premier League in recent months.
Miguel Almiron's stats during 2023/24
After his sensational goalscoring run in 2022/23 which saw the attacker score eight goals in just nine Premier League games, Miguel Almiron failed to replicate any of his good form under Howe last season.
Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron.
He's featured 42 times in all competitions but has only managed to find the back of the net on three occasions, failing to match the heights he's previously hit on Tyneside.
Although the £60k-per-week winger remains contracted with the Magpies until 2026, his recent troubles with his lack of creative output and injuries prove he's no longer at the level required, with Howe needing to brutally part ways with the winger.
Whilst the deadline for PSR has already passed, the club will need to keep offloading players to prevent a repeat of last week which has seen frantic and unneeded departures of two of the club’s best prospects.
However, despite his below-par campaign last season, he’s still attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, with journalist Keith Downie confirming that numerous sides are interested in signing the Paraguayan.

As a result of his drop in form, his market value has taken a huge hit, but it still remains higher than two players recently involved in the dramatic PSR transfer moves in recent days.
Miguel Almiron’s market value in 2024
Over five years on from his £20m move from Atlanta United in the MLS, Almiron has seen a steady decline in his value in recent years, with the attacker now only valued at just £17m, as per Transfermarkt. That being said, in recent months, PIF have placed a £30m asking price on his head according to reports.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe withMiguelAlmiron
However, despite a downturn in performances, he still holds a higher market value than new signing Odysseas Vlachodimos and the recently departed Anderson, who are both worth less than the fees paid – a loophole taken advantage of by Forest and the Magpies.
The Greek shot-stopper only boasts a figure of £6m according to Transfermarkt after his unsuccessful stint at the City Ground, which saw him start just five Premier League matches last season.
Meanwhile, Anderson is valued at £12.7m after his breakthrough season in the Premier League for Howe’s side in a season that presented the youngster with numerous opportunities following constant injury issues with multiple first-team members.
elliot-anderson-miguel-almiron-newcastle-opinion
With Almiron now aged 30 and coming towards the back end of his professional career, it is pivotal that Howe and the PIF sell the attacker for as much as possible, with his price tag only going to decline in the years ahead.
He was an important figure for the club towards the end of the Ashley era and even for Howe in recent seasons, but unfortunately, the side has better alternatives in the final third, with the club needing to prevent any loss on the £20m fee they forked out for him by offloading the
Paraguayan ahead of next term.

Zimbabwe may feel some progress has been made if they don’t walk away empty handed
Danyal Rasool02-Nov-2020
PCB
Big pictureThe second ODI was more representative of the respective qualities of the two sides, with Pakistan stamping their authority after a shaky performance in the first game where they struggled to move out of third gear. Zimbabwe, for their part, will be disappointed at missing out on a chance to pile on the runs after establishing a solid platform with arguably their two best batsmen, Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams, at the crease. They lost wickets to soft dismissals, demonstrating the lack of consistency that has plagued Zimbabwe for so long. For Pakistan, anything less than a clean sweep will be looked upon as something of a failure, but they must also be seen to be giving exposure to young players in the side as calls for a generational transation in Pakistan cricket grow louder. It has, to their credit, been a series of out-with-the-old, with Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez omitted, while Haider Ali and Haris Rauf made their debuts, with Khushdil Shah set to follow on Tuesday. The jury may still be out on whether an opening pair that leaves out Fakhar Zaman is best suited to the positive cricket they need to play, and indeed if a lower middle order of Faheem Ashraf, Imad Wasim and Ahmed is a shade too brittle, but each has made contributions this series, and shown themselves to be fit for purpose.Zimbabwe have more serious questions to ponder. Their best middle order is the same as their best middle order a decade ago, and while that speaks very highly of Taylor, Williams and Craig Ervine, it is worrying that no one has seriously managed to make a push for their places. Wesley Madhevere is an enormously exciting player, but with these three all in their mid-30s, Zimbabwe will hope to have replacements ready when the trio eventually do walk away. The other serious challenge hampering Zimbabwe is a lack of genuinely probing pace and swing bowlers. Blessing Muzarabani is probably the likeliest to have a long career, but Carl Mumba and Richard Ngarava never quite mustered the threat you might expect with the new ball, and nor, over his career, has Donald Tiripano. Finding and developing quality pace is perhaps the hardest skill of all, both from a scouting and coaching perspective, but for this series, Zimbabwe lack it, and may continue to pay the price.Zimbabwe may feel some progress has been made if they don’t walk away empty handed, while Misbah-ul-Haq’s Pakistan can breathe a sigh of relief if they get the whitewash, safe in the knowledge that the first series post transition appears to have gone according to plan.Form guidePakistan WWWWW (last five completed matches, most recent first)Zimbabwe LLLLLIn the spotlightJust because Haider Ali was dismissed by what can only be described as a freakishly weird lbw decision, it shouldn’t detract from the majesty of the innings he was playing. Just as the 20-year old did on T20I debut against England, he displayed his full range of attacking weapons during his brief stay at the crease. He was especially destructive when hitting through the air, and undeterred by a slightly tetchy start where he had a catch put down by Taylor. The way he batted didn’t deserve to have the spotlight robbed from him just because of the manner of the dismissal, and if he’s in the same sort of touch in the third game, chances are it is his talent that we’ll be talking about.Zimbabwe have a problem at the top, and while it’s not quite clear how to resolve it, the existence of the problem is not in dispute. Brian Chari and Chamu Chibhabha have struggled to cope against the fearsome pace of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf, and both games have seen Zimbabwe’s middle order left to pick up the pieces. It isn’t even just a problem this series; the last time Zimbabwe had a fifty opening stand was in July 2018, also against Pakistan. Whether Tinashe Kamunhukamwe’s inclusion resolves that problem is unclear, but until Zimbabwe can find a way to start well, the middle order will always have just a bit too much catching up to do.Team newsWith the series won, Pakistan could ring the changes. Shah may finally get a look-in, while Usman Qadir will hope to make his debut, too.Pakistan (possible): 1 Fakhar Zaman/Abid Ali, 2 Imam-ul-Haq, 3 Babar Azam (capt), 4 Haider Ali, 5 Mohammad Rizwan (wk), 6 Iftikhar Ahmed, 7 Khushdil Shah, 8 Imad Wasim/Faheem Ashraf, 9 Haris Rauf, 10 Mohammad Musa, 11 Shaheen Afridi/Wahab RiazZimbabwe were unchanged for the second game, but it continues to appear as if they’re a batsman light. Ryan Burl could be brought in to shore things up, while Kamunhukamwe must surely be running Chari close.Zimbabwe (possible): 1 Brian Chari/Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, 2 Chamu Chibhabha, 3 Craig Ervine, 4 Brendan Taylor (wk), 5 Sean Williams, 6 Wesley Madhevere, 7 Sikandar Raza, 8 Elton Chigumbura/Ryan Burl, 9 Carl Mumba, 10 Richard Ngarava, 11 Blessing MuzarabaniPitch and conditionsIt’ll be a different surface once more, and one that should favour the batsmen. The weather continues to remain clear.Stats and trivia Victory in the third game would extend Pakistan’s winning streak to nine, their third best. Their best winning streak, and joint-second best in ODI history, was a 12-match run in 2007-08, though that included 11 wins against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Brendan Taylor is 98 runs away from overtaking Grant Flower as the second-highest Zimbabwe ODI run-scorer. He is currently 312 runs behind the leader, Andy Flower.
