Manchester United have officially appointed Erik ten Hag as their new manager at Old Trafford in the summer, and now Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the team the Dutch coach will build around him.

What’s the word?

According to the Italian transfer insider and journalist, Manchester United are in talks for Steve McClaren to join the coaching staff alongside their brand new manager at the end of the season.

Romano tweeted: “Mitchell van der Gaag has already accepted to join Erik ten Hag staff at Manchester United – green light from Dutch coach arrived one week ago. Contract details are still being discussed, while Steve McClaren had direct conversation with ten Hag on his possible role.”

Supporters will be excited

It’s fair to say the Red Devils have been struggling ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013, and, having entered their longest trophy drought in 40 years, there clearly needs to be a revolution at the club – something which is starting to finally unfold ahead of the summer.

The appointment of Ten Hag alongside a brand new team to work with him will surely excite supporters, who will undoubtedly be desperate for huge changes that can positively impact the club’s future and pull them out of their trophyless rut.

Steve McClaren making a shock return to the Premier League and Old Trafford could be exactly what Man United need to reignite their identity as winners, as the former Newcastle manager was assistant to Ferguson between 1999 and 2001, joining during the treble-winning 1998/99 campaign.

Aside from his well-known career in England, McClaren has previously worked with the new Man United boss – when Ten Hag was assistant to McClaren at FC Twente back in 2008, and the pair continue to have a close relationship.

With that being said, these big shifts in responsibilities and fresh perspectives added to the Manchester United think tank will surely be welcomed by the supporters as the club looks to rebuild their reputation and pose a threat in the challenge for trophies in the future.

Australia will be on the lookout for a new fast-bowling coach after Troy Cooley was named as the new head coach at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane. But Cricket Australia insists the appointment will not affect the team’s Ashes and World Cup preparations, as Cooley will continue to work with the bowlers during those campaigns.He will replace the former Centre of Excellence mentor Greg Chappell, who has taken on a new role as Australia’s national talent manager. Cooley is set to juggle his two jobs for the next few months and Michael Brown, CA’s general manager of cricket, said the national team would not be left without a bowling coach during that period.”We have some very important cricket coming up,” Brown said, “and CA has developed a transition plan that will see Troy continue to support the Australian men’s team throughout the Vodafone Ashes Test series and ICC Cricket World Cup campaign.”Cooley, 44, made his name as England’s fast-bowling coach during the 2005 Ashes, when he was credited with helping Andrew Flintoff and his colleagues master reverse swing and confound the Australian batsmen. The following year, Cooley, a former Tasmania fast bowler, was snapped up by the Australian team.Although Australia’s fast men didn’t achieve the same results during the 2009 campaign, Cooley was regarded highly enough that he filled in for Tim Nielsen as the team’s head coach during the ODIs that followed. He will eventually have at his disposal a newly refurbished Centre of Excellence, after a A$26 million upgrade was announced earlier this year.”There is no doubting the importance of the Centre of Excellence in the cricketing pathway,” Cooley said. “When I first arrived at the Cricket Academy, as it was then called, in 2000, Rod Marsh was the head coach and helped to develop players such as Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson and Nathan Hauritz.”These players are now playing an integral role in the Australian team hopefully securing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India, reclaiming the Ashes and defending the ICC Cricket World Cup. It is extremely exciting to lead the Centre of Excellence’s coaching team and to be working closely with the states, territories and Australian Institute of Sport as we look to continue our important role in providing support for the current and next generation of Australian cricketers.”Cricket Australia has not set a timeline to find Cooley’s replacement as fast-bowling coach, although there is no immediate hurry with Cooley staying on for the time being. During his playing career, Cooley took 54 wickets in 33 first-class appearances for Tasmania.

Aston Villa have a record of being particularly active in the transfer market, even before Steven Gerrard was appointed as their manager back in November.

Now that the Villa boss will have his first summer window ahead of him once the season ends, it seems as though the 41-year-old may already have some plans in place regarding one area of his squad he wants to strengthen at Bodymoor Heath.

What’s the talk?

According to a recent report from Football Insider’s sources, Villa will be looking to bring in a left-sided centre-back during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The report also claims that this could put the future of Tyrone Mings into doubt, who they say “has not completely convinced” Gerrard in terms of his capabilities on the pitch.

Thrilling news for fans

Villa originally signed the defender on a loan deal from AFC Bournemouth back in the 2019 January window before securing him on a permanent basis in the following summer.

Overall, the Englishman has gone on to make 121 appearances for the Villans across all competitions, chipping in with seven goals and seven assists along the way.

In terms of why the Villa boss may yet to be convinced by Mings, only four other outfield players in the Premier League have made more errors that have led to an opponent’s shot this season.

This shows that the 29-year-old has been known to be a bit of a weakness at the back for his team at times.

In fact, 66% of voters in a poll ran by Football FanCast earlier this season claimed that the centre-back is a liability for Villa and could therefore be over the moon to hear that his place in the team could be at risk next season.

While Gerrard’s reported efforts to see a new left-sided centre-back enter the frame at Villa could spell the end of the road for Mings, it could have a positive effect and make him step his game up if he knows that his place in the side will be at risk if he doesn’t.

With that in mind, the England international will have to make sure he uses the final games of the season to show his manager that he has what it takes to be an important figure in the team for the foreseeable future.

– A ideia precoce da recuperação e reabilitação é para que o tornozelo não perca os movimentos, o resultado será muito positivo – complementou.

Sobre uma possível comparação com a lesão de Ronaldo as vésperas da Copa do Mundo de 2002, onde o atleta foi artilheiro e Campeão Mundial, o especialista foi mais uma vez otimista:

– Nesse aspecto ele tem vantagem, apesar de perder treinamentos, tecnicamente ele não muda, é uma lesão menos grave e com o apoio de toda a equipe médica e comissão técnica ele vai voltar bem, vai desenvolver normalmente seu futebol na Copa do Mundo.

كشف أشرف نصار رئيس مجلس إدارة نادي البنك الأهلي، عن حقيقة رحيل خالد جلال المدير الفني للفريق، وإجراء بعض التغييرات في الجهاز المعاون؛ وذلك عقب الخسارة أمام بيراميدز والخروج من كأس مصر.

وخسر البنك الأهلي أمام بيراميدز، يوم الأحد الماضي، بهدف نظيف سجله اللاعب رمضان صبحي، ليتأهل الفريق السماوي إلى نصف نهائي كأس مصر، ويودع الأول البطولة رغم تقديمه أداءً جيدًا.

وقال أشرف نصار في تصريحات لبرنامج “مع شوبير” المُذاع عبر أثير “أون سبورت إف إم”: “لا صحة عن ما تردد بشأن إجراء تغييرات في الجهاز الفني، نظام التغيير العشوائي ليس في قاموسنا”.

Aston Villa have shown that they are no strangers to splashing the cash since their promotion back to the Premier League in 2019.

Under Dean Smith, Villa spent £20m to sign Tyrone Mings to Villa Park and the season after, brought Ollie Watkins to the Midlands, spending over £30m to secure their man and boost their survival hopes.

One transfer that perhaps went slightly under the radar compared to the bigger buys was that of Douglas Luiz from Manchester City. Luiz only cost the newly promoted side £15m and it proved to be a very successful transfer.

Luiz has played 105 matches for the side, scoring four and assisting eight times, a decent return for a defensive midfielder.

He excelled in his first season, gelling into the club well as Villa retained their Premier League status. This prompted the Athletic’s Greg Evans to describe him as an “absolute star” following a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in July 2020. Going as far as to say, “he could have played in that Man Utd team.”

High praise indeed for the Brazilian and it was justified, especially in his first two campaigns, this season has been tougher, however.

The 23-year-old had 1.1 shots per game during his first season compared to just 0.8 for this campaign. Last season saw him win 1.3 aerial duels compared to just 0.8 this year, however, his pass success percentage has risen subsequently every season, to a high of 86.3% as Villa has struggled at times under Steven Gerrard.

There is no doubt that Luiz is a class player, and this is reflected in his market value. This was only £9m in September 2019 at Villa Park, but it has now risen to a whopping £31.5m as of December 2021.

Gerrard could make a tidy profit on the midfielder if he is aiming to bring in his own players, but it might be wise to keep him, he has a bright future that’s for sure.
