Over the past few years, Aston Villa’s owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris have shown that they are not shy when it comes to spending money on new players to come in and strengthen the squad.

One player who was brought in and has gone from strength to strength on the pitch for the Villans, seeing his market value soar in the meantime, is Ezri Konsa.

Villa signed the defender back in 2019 from then-Championship side Brentford in a deal worth a reported £12m.

Since then, the centre-back – who is currently picking up £72k-per-week according to Salary Sport – has gone on to become a crucial figure for Villa on the pitch by making 91 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with six goals and two assists along the way.

With Matty Cash being the only outfield player at Villa to have played more minutes in the Premier League this season than Konsa, this shows just how critical he is for Steven Gerrard’s side and how highly he is rated by the manager.

Shortly before joining the Midlands club, Transfermarkt cited Konsa’s market value at £3.15m. It now stands at £22.5m, highlighting the significant rise it has enjoyed during this time at Villa Park.

Having been described as “excellent” on the pitch for Villa alongside fellow centre-back Tyrone Mings by Kevin Phillips, they certainly seem to have got their money’s worth with the 24-year-old, who has plenty of time ahead of him to further enhance his development and grow into an even better defender for the Villans for many years to come.

With Mings having racked up more interceptions, clearances and blocks per game than Konsa in the Premier League this season, the latter certainly has room to improve in his game, especially considering how he arguably let his team down in his previous outing by getting himself sent off in the 3-3 draw against Leeds United.

Nonetheless, it has still been a great bit of business from the club to secure the signing of Konsa, who could potentially become a regular for the senior England national team as well if he keeps impressing under Gerrard in the Midlands.

Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope has revealed that the former FA chief will pen a deal with the Magpies to work with Eddie Howe at St. James’ Park.

PIF brought in Nick Hammond on a short-term move in December to assist the club in the January transfer window and they are now set to provide a long-term solution to that position with the ex-Seagulls supremo.

Hope Tweeted: “Understand Dan Ashworth will join NUFC after resigning from his role as Brighton technical director.”

He followed that up with: “Ashworth was offered the Newcastle role on Friday & club hope to confirm his appointment in due course.”

PIF masterclass

This is a major piece of news and represents a masterclass from PIF as they are on the verge of pinching a huge part of Brighton’s success in recent years.

Seagulls journalist Aden-Jay Wood previously Tweeted: “If Dan Ashworth goes (which I think he will), it will be a huge shame. Ashworth has almost singlehandedly changed Brighton’s approach both on and off the field and would be very, very difficult to replace.”

Wood’s comment suggests that the Englishman will be able to sculpt Newcastle’s future on the pitch and off it, working alongside Howe – leaving the former Bournemouth boss delighted. The Magpies head coach will surely love to work with a sporting director of Ashworth’s pedigree, much like Gareth Southgate did with England.

The Three Lions boss once showered him with praise for his work with the national team set-up, as he created a winning culture throughout the ranks, saying:

“I told Dan (Ashworth) as we walked in that he should feel really proud. The last time we came to one of these it was in St Petersburg three years ago but this time we walked in as world champions at U17 and U20 and we’ve been to a seniors’ semi-final, so we deserve our place at the table.

“That is a great credit to everyone involved, the backing the FA has given us in building St George’s Park and investing in the teams, to the work being done in youth development and to Dan in particular for putting those plans in place, which we have seen pay off for Spain, Germany and France. It’s up to us now to continue the work that’s been started.”

Since joining Brighton in 2019, Ashworth has overseen 16th and 15th-placed finishes in the Premier League. The south coast side is currently ninth in the table as it stands and this highlights the excellent work he has done at the AMEX, helping the club to continually progress.

This is why bringing him in will represent a masterclass from PIF as they have been able to secure a top-quality appointment from a Premier League rival who’s well ahead of them in the table. It shows the pull they have as an ownership group, as they have been able to tempt him away from what looks – on paper – to be an excellent job for him.

Howe will now be buzzing to work with him ahead of the summer transfer window when they will hopefully be looking to build on a successful relegation battle.

Following up on India’s impressive performance with the bat, the duo shared nine wickets to secure a first-innings lead of 254.Yorkshire’s batsmen were left to rue the fact that their middle and lower order, despite getting starts, did not push on. Charlie Roebuck, Alex Lees, David Wainwright, Lee Hodgson and Tino Best each got to double-figures but none reached a half-century as Kulkarni and Abdulla kept chipping away. Titular do time que decide diante do Flamengo a Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior nesta quinta (25), às 10h, Walce foi revelado na Escolinha do Profeta – projeto social criado em Cuiabá e que, hoje, atende aproximadamente 250 crianças. Por coincidência, o garoto Brenner também deu seus primeiros passos no futebol no mesmo local.

Como a dupla tem a mesma idade (18 anos cada; Walce nasceu em 1999 e Brenner em 2000) acabaram jogando juntos sob o comando de Carlos Roberto Cabral da Silva, o Profeta. Durante meia década ajudaram o time da escolinha de Cuiabá a conquistar resultados expressivos nos campeonatos regionais. O sucesso foi tanto que acabou chamando a atenção do São Paulo, que os monitorou por três anos antes de convocá-los para serem integrados ao CT de Cotia.

– É uma felicidade muito grande ver o Brenner e o Walce bem no São Paulo. Ambos demonstravam muito talento desde crianças e agora podem mostrar seu futebol em um clube grande. É um espelho para os outros meninos da escolinha que sonham em se tornar jogadores de futebol, declara Profeta ao LANCE!, orgulhoso de seus pupilos.

Vivendo no CT do São Paulo desde o início de suas adolescências, a dupla passou por muita coisa junta. Tanto o atacante, como o zagueiro possuem passagens pelas seleções brasileiras de base e somam alguns títulos pelo Tricolor do Morumbi. Se Brenner é visto como um jogador agudo, abusado e sempre de bem com a vida, Walce faz o estilo mais centrado.

– O Walce sempre foi muito calmo, na dele. É um jogador muito técnico, com excelente visão de jogo, bom passe e, com certeza, é um líder. Sempre foi, pontua Profeta.

As habilidades do garoto, que ainda busca uma vaga entre os profissionais, são uma das apostas do São Paulo para conquistar seu tetracampeonato da Copinha, no Pacaembu. Diante do Flamengo, o zagueiro nascido Cuiabá tem, ao lado de seus companheiros de equipe, uma chance única de provar seu valor.

Aina, who’s been called ‘quality’ by Torino boss Ivan Juric, may well be the perfect man for the job going by his age (25) and potential for sell-on value as a result.

Given he is entering the final year of his contract in July, West Ham could even hold a major advantage in negotiations and sign the player for a cut-price fee, potentially then getting the prime years out of the player before selling for a profit.
