According to The Athletic’s Adam Leventhal, Sheffield Wednesday have approached Vladimir Ivic over the vacant managerial role at Hillsborough Stadium.

It’s claimed that representatives from the Owls made an enquiry to the unemployed 43-year-old boss at the end of December, around the time in which Tony Pulis was sacked after only 45 days at the helm.

The Serbian has been out of work since being fired himself at Championship rivals, Watford, though it is thought that he has remained in the UK, instead of returning to his home in Greece.

It is also thought that several teams have approached him across England and the Middle East, and Ivic is merely waiting for the right opportunity.

His short time at the Hornets should tell Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri all he needs to know about why this is a move that should be left at that approach.

Do not pursue him any more.

Ivic was described as “hard as nails, ruthless and a tough nut” upon his arrival at Vicarage Road in the summer, but that evidently didn’t correlate into results on the pitch.

He won nine of 20 matches, leaving them in fifth place but if the hierarchy at Watford didn’t think he was capable of leading them to glory with one of the most expensive squads in the division, then what’s to say he’d be fit for a relegation dogfight?

‘His overly defensive tactics have been unpopular with Watford fans, though, and the team’s style of play has not been easy on the eye,’ wrote the Guardian after his sacking.

Chansiri’s history with appointments should also provide clues into why Ivic should be avoided. Yes, there was a successful stint with Carlos Carvalhal, where the Owls finished in the playoffs in back-to-back campaigns, but his successor Jos Luhukay was some sort of antichrist to that.

Under the Dutchman, they finished in their lowest position in four seasons in 15th, and before the same could be repeated, he was sacked by Christmas.

What the Owls need is someone experienced not only this level, but in keeping teams up. 20 games at Watford isn’t going to be enough to convince you otherwise.

When there are candidates like Paul Cook out there, a man who would have achieved back-to-back survival bids at Wigan but for a points deduction, then names like Ivic shouldn’t be considered.

It’s heading down an all too familiar and dangerous path.

If Chansiri is to listen to his advisors on this one, then Wednesday are on the verge of disaster.

Na Cabofriense, além da preocupação com o fato de o time praticamente promover uma estreia a cada rodada e isso afetar o entrosamento, o técnico Eduardo Húngaro sabe que a partida contra o Flamengo é uma decisão. Com apenas quatro pontos em cinco jogos e restando três para o fim da primeira fase, a Cabofriense poderá não ter mais chances de classificação para a fase decisiva em caso de nova derrota.

Húngaro não terá o volante Andreazzi, machucado. O zagueiro Leandro Euzébio pode estrear, mas se for usado será apenas opção no banco.

Many Liverpool fans reacted with worry after reports emerged that midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri turned down a loan move to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

According to Sky Germany (via Fussball Transfers), the 29-year-old had no interest in throwing himself into a relegation fight in Germany.

This is not the first time he has been linked with loan moves away. Last year, the Reds turned down approaches from Roma and Sevilla so he could stay for the title charge (via BBC Sport).

Despite this, Shaqiri remains a bit-part figure in Jurgen Klopp’s side, starting just two Premier League games and featuring four times as a substitute.

Having won just one game in their last six, supporters couldn’t understand why their club was trying to offload creative players in the squad, to which they made their feelings clear to @LFCTransferRoom on Twitter.

وأجرى مدرب الأهلي حوارًا مع إذاعة “CAPETALK” الجنوب إفريقية، وقال: “التدريب ليس بالوظيفة الجيدة لعائلتك، والأشخاص المقربين منك، خاصة عندما لا تسير الأمور على ما يرام، وحتى عندما تسير الأمور على ما يرام، يجب أن أكون صادقًا فهذا ليس جيدًا لصحتك ولكن يجب أن يقوم بهذه الوظيفة شخصًا ما”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “لقد كنا ندخر الأموال منذ أن كنت في جنوب إفريقيا، في مصر، ليس من المهم ادخار الأموال لأنني بالفعل قمت بعمل جيد في جنوب إفريقيا ولدي بعض الاستثمارات التي قمت بها، بعض العقارات التي اشتريتها، حتى أتمكن من الحفاظ على مستوى معيشتي بعد اعتزال التدريب”.

واستمر: “أعاني من الشعور ببعض الإجهاد، وهذا أمر طبيعي وإلا فلن أدرب الأهلي أو صن داونز أبدًا وتفوز بالألقاب التي فزنا بها، التدريب ليس لضعاف القلوب، لكن حياتنا جيدة بقدر ما نتحدث عن مدى قسوة العمل، لقد فزت بالعديد من الألقاب في الأهلي”.

وأكمل: “بصراحة، لو كنت في جنوب إفريقيا لما كنت سأفوز ببطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا مرتين متتاليتين، في كأس العالم للاندية، صن داونز لم يفز حتى بمباراة واحدة، المنافسة صعبة للغاية، لقد استغرق الأمر 30 عامًا حتى يفوز فريق جنوب إفريقي ببطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا، لقد استغرقنا 8 أشهر فقط حتى نفوز مع الأهلي بها مرتين، هنا عليك الفوز بأي ثمن، ليس هناك أعذار، إذا خسرت فهذه مشكلة حقًا هنا، إذا خسرت فهي جنازة، هذا هو الفارق”.

Steve Bruce should push Newcastle United and Matty Longstaff to accept a half-season loan spell with Watford as the Toon reportedly near an agreement to sign Arsenal’s Joe Willock.

What’s the word?

According to the Press Association’s Mark Mann-Bryans, talks are taking place between the Magpies and Gunners to reach a definitive agreement over the temporary transfer of Willock.

A deal for the midfielder to see out the rest of the season at St. James’ Park is now considered to be very likely, following reports over the weekend that United were urging Mikel Arteta to grant Willock permission to leave the Emirates Stadium.

Willock is keen to secure a half-season loan move on Deadline Day in order to play regular first-team football after a bit-part role under Arteta, who had been reluctant to lose the box-to-box 21-year-old due to the potential exit fellow Newcastle target Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Willock has only played 14 minutes of Premier League football in 2021, while starting just two of his seven top-flight appearances all season. The £14.5m-rated gem was a more regular fixture of the Arsenal side during their Europa League Group Stage efforts, scoring three and assisting three goals in five games.

Newcastle signing Willock may end Bruce’s long-running search for a new midfielder in the winter market, with Matt Ritchie no longer returning to AFC Bournemouth after the Magpies reportedly rejected the Cherries’ offer.

Hello Willock, goodbye Longstaff?

Willock’s arrival on Tyneside may have a drastic impact on United’s Deadline Day business, having so far rejected approaches from Watford for academy graduate Longstaff, per the Daily Mail.

It is claimed the Toon are refusing to part with the 20-year-old on a six-month deal, following efforts by the Hornets to take Longstaff to Vicarage Road as a replacement for Leicester City target Nathaniel Chalobah amid their push for an immediate to the Premier League.

Newcastle are not in a position where they must listen to offers for Longstaff to free a squad spot for Willock to join, given the Magpies ace does not take up a place because of his age. But his chances of featuring will decrease with a deal for the Gunners talent, having already been slim in recent weeks.

Longstaff has not been given a role in any of Newcastle’s last three Premier League fixtures after been axed following last month’s 3-0 defeat at Arsenal, which marked only his fourth top-flight start of the season after a problematic and persistent thigh injury.

The £4.5m-rated gem had produced a solid start at the Emirates but lost his way in the second period, having been unable to replicate his performance against the champions when Longstaff proved ice cool in the engine room to dictate United’s game plan against Liverpool.

Bruce would likely have not needed to sign a replacement in Willock if Longstaff had been able to produce consistent performances, yet must now urge the Magpies and the Magpies product to leave on loan so that he can find his rhythm and come back even stronger.
