For the first time in 28 games, Glasgow Rangers were on the losing end of a result as they were defeated 3-2 by St. Mirren on Wednesday, and Bongani Zungu was far from at his best.

The Gers were the favourites in the League Cup quarter-final, but they surprisingly lost. Connor Goldson actually did give them the lead, but Jamie McGrath scored twice to turn things around. A Steven Davis equaliser late on looked to have saved the Ibrox outfit, but Conor McCarthy was on hand to grab the winner in injury time.

Zungu, who was making just his second start for the 54-time Scottish champions since signing for them on loan on transfer deadline day, was poor in the middle of the park. He regularly slowed the game down for the Gers, which contributed to their defeat.

Liverpool are still looking to make a move to sign Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun, according to reports.

Balogun on Anfield radar

The 19-year-old is a regular for the Gunners’ U23s side and has scored four goals and provided two assists from 10 appearances in the Premier League 2 (TransferMarkt).

But manager Mikel Arteta has been giving the American-born forward opportunities in the Europa League and he has scored twice from four outings.

According to Nik Postinger, a freelance journalist previously of The Guardian and The Telegraph, Liverpool are still in the frame to secure Balogun. Jurgen Klopp’s side were in the mix for the young centre-forward in the summer, who can also play on the left-wing.

Sky Sports reported at the time that Brentford were leading the race ahead of the Reds, and the North London outfit would be willing to listen to offers in the region of £8m.

The England U20 international has a famous fan club in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who described him as “fire” having watched him play at the club’s academy.

Transfer Tavern Verdict

This is another example of Liverpool, Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp planning for the club’s future.

The duo have worked harmoniously well in terms of bringing in talent. Bringing through the likes of Curtis Jones and Rhys Williams under the watchful eye of Alex Inglethorpe has been the cherry on their red cake.

A versatile attacker such as Balogun is a player that could become useful in the future. With European experience under his belt, he could be well ahead of other players around his age in terms of development.

At around £8m, Balogun might be worth a look. Time will tell as the January transfer window edges closer.

علّق المدرب الألماني، توماس توخيل، المدير الفني لنادي تشيلسي، على اقتراب مواطنه، رالف رانجنيك من تولي المهمة الفنية لفريق مانشستر يونايتد.

وذكرت العديد من وسائل الإعلام الإنجليزية على مدار الساعات القليلة الماضية، أن إدارة مانشستر يونايتد تُخطط لتعيين الألماني رانجنيك مديرًا فنيًا مؤقتًا للفريق حتى نهاية الموسم.

وقال توخيل في المؤتمر الصحفي الخاص بمباراة مانشستر يونايتد: “نحن سنواجه ناديا كبيرا، ولديهم لاعبون بارعون، يجب ألا ندعهم يلعبون، لأن ذلك يعني أننا سنرى موهبة هؤلاء اللاعبين لأنهم على أعلى مستوى”.

وعن اقتراب رانجنيك من تدريب اليونايتد: “رالف كان مدربي وساعدني كثيرًا، إنه أحد الشخصيات التي أقنعتني بخوض تجربة التدريب”.

وأضاف: “لقد كان له تأثير كبير عليّ وعلى مدربين آخرين، ولكن أنا لا أود أن أتحدث كثيرًا عنه لأنه لم يتم تعيينه بعد، لذلك دعونا نحترم الجميع”.

وبسؤاله ما إذا كان الوقت مُناسبًا للعب أمام مانشستر يونايتد: “أنا لا أعرف ما إذا كان الوقت مناسبًا للعب ضدهم، لأن هذا يعني أننا نعرف شيئًا ما أو نتوقع شيئًا ما”.

وأكمل: “نحن أمامنا تحديات كبيرة، ونريد أن نلعب على أعلى مستوى، نحن جئنا من أسبوع صعب وواجهنا يوفنتوس، والآن نستعد للمباراة التالية، سنواجه التحدي على أعلى مستوى مرة أخرى يوم الأحد”.

وتطرق توخيل للحديث عن وصوله لـ50 مباراة مع تشيلسي: “أنا لم أتخيل أن الأمور كانت ستسير على ما يُرام”.

وتابع: “لقد كنت مُندهشًا جدًا أنني لعبت 50 مباراة بالفعل، لم أشعر بذلك حقًا، لقد مرّ الوقت بسرعة، آمل أن أقوم بمزيد من العمل بحزم أكثر وخوض 50 مباراة أخرى”.

وأتم تصريحاته بالحديث عن المنافسة على اللقب في الدوري الإنجليزي: “نحن في ماراثون لم ينته، وسنحاول العمل، ولكن لا يزال هُناك طريق طويل لنقطعه، لقد أظهر لنا مانشستر يونايتد وليفربول أن يجب علينا أن نكون على أعلى مستوى باستمرار لتحقيق ما نُريده”.

يُذكر أن تشيلسي يحل مساء الأحد ضيفًا على مانشستر يونايتد، على ملعب “أولد ترافورد”، في تمام الساعة السادسة والنصف بتوقيت القاهرة، ضمن لقاءات الجولة الثالثة عشر من الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

Contratado da base do Guarani, Cittadini foi cedido pelo Peixe à Ponte Preta, em 2014, mas acabou retornando antes do fim do vínculo, já que o Alvinegro devolveu o atacante Rafael Ratão cedido pela Macaca.

هناك الكثر من الشائعات حول فوز ميسي منذ فترة بالجائزة رغم وجود العديد من الأسماء الأخرى المرشحة بقوة مثل روبرت ليفاندوفسكي، كريم بنزيما، كريستيانو رونالدو، محمد صلاح.

الجدير بالذكر أن ميسي كان قد انتقل في الميركاتو الصيفي الماضي إلى باريس سان جيرمان من صفوف برشلونة بعد التتويج مع منتخب الأرجنتين بلقب كوبا أمريكا 2021.

Tottenham are in the hunt for the Premier League title this season and with the January transfer window now upon us, they have the perfect opportunity to strengthen.

So, where will they do so?

What’s the word?

One area that Spurs could look to improve this month is in an attacking sense. Heung-min Son and Harry Kane have scored 75% of their goals this term so some added help could go down a treat.

Diego Costa has been linked on a free transfer but there is a younger man now in the frame to move to north London.

That happens to be Wigan forward Kyle Joseph, someone catching the eye in League One this season.

According to The Sun, Spurs are plotting a move for the 19-year-old after initially having a bid of £150,000 rejected last summer.

Joseph turned down both the Lilywhites and Sheffield United but that isn’t preventing them from moving again in the winter.

Wigan are still in administration so face losing a number of their players in the coming weeks.

Forget Parrott

When it comes to the Tottenham academy, the jewel in the crown at the moment is Troy Parrott.

The Irishman is a fabulous young talent but after struggling to breakthrough under Jose Mourinho, is now on loan at Millwall.

The 18-year-old has been pretty unimpressive in Bermondsey, though, failing to score in his nine Championship outings.

Joseph, however, has been exceptional for Wigan and already has more senior goals than the Spurs academy graduate.

Speaking about the teenager earlier this season, Latics forward Kal Naismith commented: “He’ll be a top player, a really, really good player and he works his nuts off not just in the games but all week in training as well, he has a great appetite for the game and a great attitude – I enjoy playing with him.”

In all senses of the word, Joseph is a dream to play with. By winning 2.3 aerial duels per game this season he brings others into play but he is only getting better.

He scored a sublime hat-trick against Burton in Wigan’s last match and is just going from strength to strength having netted four times this season.

Daniel Levy must ensure he’s a Tottenham player at the end of the window.

Liam Kennedy has dropped a claim on the proposed £300m takeover of Newcastle United by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) group.

The football journalist tweeted out his latest piece for The Shields Gazette with the caption ‘Now this is interesting’, as he wrote about how Nick De Marco QC tweeted about having a meeting with the St. James’ Park faithful and joining the team at the Emirates Stadium to watch their FA Cup tie versus Arsenal, in which they eventually lost 2-0 after extra-time.

Kennedy added, in his article, that movement is expected in the Tyneside club’s arbitration case against the Premier League, a cast in which De Marco has been instrumental in trying to get sorted over the next few weeks or so.

Can De Marco be instrumental in the Newcastle takeover?

De Marco has a good track record and overall reputation among sports lawyers, exemplified by him helping Sheffield Wednesday win their legal case, as he was reportedly instrumental in getting their points deduction in the EFL Championship reduced from 12 points to just six, and therefore giving the Owls a much better chance of surviving in the EFL Championship.

He has even been branded as ‘the Lionel Messi of sport law’, which should give fans of the Magpies hope if he is to represent the Toon in the arbitration hearing against the top flight.
