The contract news has yet again rolled out of Elland Road. In previous weeks Kalvin Phillips, Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper signed new terms but now it’s Luke Ayling putting pen to paper.

Leeds confirmed the news on their Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon in the build-up to last night’s clash against West Brom.

Ayling played his first minutes under Marcelo Bielsa this term on Monday night but not playing before then doesn’t look as though it’s become an issue in negotiations.

The right-back played 40 times for Leeds last term and was an influential figure but concerns have still been expressed over his new contract.

Many supporters took to Twitter to discuss the announcement from the club as one declared they weren’t thrilled by all the long-term plans.

A further individual said the Whites were setting themselves up for problems in a few years while another said it was a tad crazy.

The 28-year-old has recently just stepped up his recovery from an injury by playing for the U23 side but he faces a job to get back into Bielsa’s plans.

Dallas has had an excellent term himself, one that’s seen him bag against Stoke and achieve an average match rating of 7.04 prior to the visit of the Baggies.

يفكر يوفنتوس في عودة ماسيماليانو أليجري، الذي يرغب في التدريب مرة أخرى بعد رحيله عن السيدة العجوز عام 2019، وربما يكون هناك مدرب مؤقت حتى الاستقرار على اسم جديد والأنظار تتجه نحو مساعد بيرلو، إيجور تيودور.

وعلى رأس الأسماء التي يفكر فيها يوفنتوس للموسم المقبل، زين الدين زيدان، الذي ينتهي عقده مع ريال مدريد في يونيو 2022، ولكن حتى الآن، لم يتواصل النادي الإيطالي مع المدرب الفرنسي.

هناك أسماء أخرى وضعتها الصحيفة الإيطالية مثل روبرتو مانشيني، لوتشيانو سباليتي وسيميوني إنزاجي الذي لم يجدد عقده مع لاتسيو لقيادة يوفنتوس.

أصبح ظهير أتالانتا روبن جوسينس، محورًا للمنافسة بين كبار أندية أوروبا، ومن المتوقع اشتعال المفاوضات عليه للتعاقد معه في سوق الانتقالات الصيفي.

وأفادت تقارير صحفية أن مانشستر سيتي ينافس يوفنتوس على التعاقد مع جونسيس صاحب الـ26 عامًا.

وبحسب موقع “فوتبول إيطاليا”، أتلتيكو مدريد انضم أيضًا للمنافسة على جونسيس، وكذلك إنتر ميلان الإيطالي.

سجل جونسيس 10 أهداف وقدم 7 تمريرات حاسمة في 34 مباراة تنافسية هذا الموسم ويستمر عقده حتى يونيو 2022.

Out of all the players in Crystal Palace’s squad, just four of them are under the age of 28.

26-year-old Wilfried Zaha, 24-year-old Max Meyer, 26-year-old Jeffrey Schlupp and the injury-stricken Connor Wickham – also aged 26 – are the players who fit into the aforementioned category – on-loan midfielder Victor Camarasa is 25, but isn’t technically a Palace player.

That is particularly concerning.

In a few years time, the core of Palace’s squad will be outdated and in dire need of a revamp, something that chairman Steve Parish and Sporting Director Dougie Freedman are somewhat aware of, at least.

The Athletic’s Dominic Fifield wrote that the pair are looking to target players in their early 20s with one eye on the future, with the snippet of information embedded in this article here.

“The sporting director, Dougie Freedman, and chairman, Steve Parish, were also acutely aware of the relatively hefty average age of the squad. There is a desire to bring in more players in their early 20s with an eye to the future.”

Their transfer vision for the club makes sense given the aforesaid, although there is another worrying stat that promotes their plans even more.

Prospect Watch, a site that keeps tabs on U23 players, revealed on their Twitter account that the south London side have handed the least amount of minutes to players who are 23 or under this season.

Palace have given just 156 minutes worth of playing time to players who slot into that category, and are in fact the second-worst side throughout the entire Football League for giving chances to players who are 23 or younger – only Championship side Sheffield Wednesday have given less minutes to such players, with 0 to their name.

If anything, this only reinforces and promotes Parish and Freedman’s transfer vision for the club.

While things are going well right now with Palace sat 6th in the Premier League, one can’t help but feel that there is an alarming lack of sustainability surrounding the playing staff, a concern that can only be backed up by Prospect Watch’s revelation.

A silver lining, at least, is that Parish and Freedman are seemingly aware of it and ready to fix it.

Tottenham are interested in Real Madrid’s Isco, according to Spanish outlet El Desmarque.

What’s the story?

Spurs have been linked with several creative midfielders in the last few weeks, such as Paulo Dybala and Bruno Fernandes, and now it appears they have set their sights on the Spanish midfielder.

When fit, the 27-year-old has often been an important player for Los Blancos, evidenced by his best return of 10 goals and eight assists in the 2016/17 La Liga season, having signed for the club for £23m in 2013.

With Christian Eriksen setting his sights elsewhere, it is a deal which could make sense for both clubs, although Real Madrid hold all the cards considering the Dane’s contract situation.

Bayern Munich are also believed to be interested in Isco, and that could make things more complicated for Tottenham, though it is a deal which may not work out too well anyway.

Repeating past mistakes

Whilst the Spain international has improved his quality in a Real Madrid shirt, with 48 goals and 52 assists in 280 appearances for the club, his time in the capital has often been blighted by injury, and that should be a big concern for Spurs.

Considering their budget constraints in comparison to the rest of the top-six, and their much lower wage bill, they simply can’t afford for their highest-paid players to be sidelined too often, and Isco would fit into that category.

In Erik Lamela they have a similarly gifted, technical midfielder, but a player who has spent far too much time on the treatment table in recent years.

The Argentine has suffered with hip problems regularly since the 2016/17 campaign, first ruling him out for 57 matches before other niggles meant he only started 14 games last year.

Isco has similar problems, often picking up minor injuries which have a worrying long-term impact on his side, as he takes time to recover his fitness and match sharpness each time he makes a comeback. That in turn limits his influence, with six goals and one assist since the start of last season.

He has already missed a month of this term, and made only 17 starts in 2018/19, and therefore he cannot be relied upon to act as a replacement for Eriksen on a consistent basis – much like Lamela.

Did he pass his third audition?

With Michael Dawson out injured, Sabri Lamouchi has been giving other players their chance to prove if they can keep the captain out of the team not just now but potentially for the future.

Tobias Figueiredo played against Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic, but now it was time for Chema to be given another opportunity, having previously started against Brentford earlier in the month and replaced Dawson when he was injured against Stoke City.

Having been brought to the City Ground in the summer from Levante, his opportunities have been limited thus far, so how did he do in his latest outing and has he done enough to cement his place for the long term?

On the chalkboard

It was certainly a bit of a mixed night for the Spaniard.

Whilst he put in a relatively comfortable performance for the majority of the game, he played huge parts in both of the goals that the visitors conceded.

For the first strike, not only did he lose his runner in Josh Magennis, but also played him onside when he turned in Jon Toral’s shot. Then for the second he was caught out of position and was forced to play catch up as the Spanish midfielder squared the ball to Jarred Bowen.

If you take a look at his statistics from the game (taken from WhoScored), he completed 85% of his passes which was above the team average (84%), won eight aerial duels (double that of Joe Worrall in second) and made three tackles (joint-most of all in the team).

If he can replicate this sort of form going forward, then there shouldn’t be a question as to whether or not he can be the long term replacement for Dawson.

However, he just needs to work on his concentration, because whilst the statistics might be impressive, if he’s at fault for the goals they concede then his usefulness won’t last long.
