Take a seat and prepare yourself Liverpool fans for…Sean Dundee.

Ah, yes. Sean Dundee. He really was quite terrible, wasn’t he?

Now, that might sound like a fun little rhyme to kick things off but, much in the same way that sweet little block of cheese presented to an ambitious mouse precedes the utter misery of having his head lopped off by a spring-loaded metal bar, that jolly jingle is misleading.

Before his ill-fated move to England, Sean Dundee was quite the revelation in Germany. Following an impressive start at TSV Ditzingen where he scored 24 goals in a single season, he earned a big break with Karlsruher SC.

He may have been remembered for his distinct lack of goals in the Premier League, but boy oh boy did he bag in Germany. Dundee finished joint second top scorer behind Fredi Bobic in his first season with an impressive 16 goals before beating his record by one in his second term.

His record was enough to buy him a ticket to England, Liverpool the unfortunate suitors.

“I had three options,” he says. “Rangers, Gladbach and Auxerre. Guy Roux, the legendary French coach, was Auxerre manager, and I was on the verge of signing for them, but I wasn’t 100% sure.

“Then I got the call Liverpool were interested and I threw everything else out of the window. It happened pretty quickly; probably not even a week from hearing about it, it was pretty much signed and sealed.”

Indeed, we think it is very, very safe to say that everything happened incredibly quickly for Dundee at Liverpool. He arrived quickly, fans realised he was absolutely awful quickly and he left, you guessed it, quickly. After just four games and 49 minutes, to be precise.

Injury woes and attitude problems are often considered the reasons behind the striker’s failure, which he himself has admitted.

“It’s easy to blame different people, but I wasn’t fit enough when I went there,” Dundee told Planet Football. “That was my first mistake, I had to catch up a little bit. When I did get fit I got injured and that was it.

“When Roy left my time there was over. Gerard didn’t want me. He didn’t want a lot of other players either. You have to accept that. I knew I had to leave.

“In the time I was injured my biggest mistake was doing a lot of gym work, and that slowed me down. I thought pumping iron was the thing to do, but I should have worked on other things.”

Having swapped ability for biceps, with a grand total of zero goals in the charity minutes he was handed at Liverpool, Dundee was left out of the pre-season squad and essentially forced to move in 1999.

الصحيفة الإنجليزية، قالت إن الأرجنتيني قرر العودة إلى التدريب، ونادي مانشستر يونايتد فتح باب المفاوضات معه لخلافة سولشاير، لكن الأمر الآن يتوقف على موقف النادي من المدرب النرويجي.

With survival achieved this season at the earliest point since they returned to the Premier League in 2013, Crystal Palace have a number of players to thank for that achievement.

Vicente Guaita has been a huge boost in net, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been immense at right-back and Wilfried Zaha has been up to his usual tricks.

The Eagles number 11, having said outright that he wants to play Champions League football, could be out the door this summer after another impressive campaign – a departure that would shake Selhurst Park to the core.

However, there is at least one positive for Palace fans to consider.

On the chalkboard

Zaha brings bags of pace, strength and flair to Palace’s attack and he is the main reason why the SE25 outfit are seen as one of the most dangerous counter-attacking teams away from home. They have beaten Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and nearly got the better of Liverpool at Anfield – results that put them second in the table based on away form in the last 10 games.

However, it isn’t the same story at home, with the Eagles sitting in a lowly 17th place and taking just nine points from their last 10 at Selhurst Park.

With an atmosphere that’s the envy of the Premier League, Palace should be making their home ground a fortress, not taking it with them on their travels.

How, then, can Zaha’s departure re-balance their polarised form both home and away?

Blessing in disguise

Roy Hodgson’s side is built to do damage on the counter and, when on their travels, the Eagles sit back a little more and allow their hosts to have possession – this ultimately allows them to get the best out of the threat they have on the break, to which Zaha is crucial.

Currently, Palace’s plan A both away from and at home is to give the ball to the talismanic winger and let him do what he does best but, without him, their ability to hit teams with speed is significantly weakened, meaning that they will inevitably pick up fewer points on the road.

At Selhurst Park, though, it would see them think of other avenues to attack and create.

This would benefit the likes of Christian Benteke, who would see a lot more crosses headed his way with Zaha no longer there to chop back inside and win penalties.

With Hodgson surely forced to completely change his side’s approach with Zaha out of the picture, Palace fans could see their team pick up more results at SE25 next season should the Ivorian seek pastures new, thus re-balancing their home and away form.

Ultimately, season ticket holders pay their money to see their team get results at home and Zaha’s departure could see them finally get value for their hard-earned cash.

The move for the 18-year-old should excite Whites fans, but not for the reasons that immediately spring to mind.

One for the future

Signing the 5 ft 10 ace on a free may take a few years to pay dividends, but if he continues to improve, then it may be quite a coup for the Yorkshire club.

The youngster has impressed at Bolton this season during his 10 league appearances for the club.

He is best deployed as a defensive midfielder, and he seems to be in the mould that Marcelo Bielsa likes. He attempts over three tackles per game and is dribbled past just over once per 90 minutes on average.

He seems to be a hard worker who is defensively sound at the same time, and if the Argentine can tutor him, he may have a player on his hands.

Getting him early

Making a move for the Irishman after just 10 senior appearances may seem risky, but it may prove to be a stroke of genius in the near future.

Leeds fans should be encouraged that the club is sticking with the same transfer policy that saw them almost sign Daniel James for £5 million.

The Swansea winger has now been valued at three times that amount less than six months later, and their policy of scouting youngsters early will bode well for them in years to come.

The Whites made a move for James just six months after he made his debut, and now he is being linked with Manchester United.

The scouting team at Elland Road have an eye for talent, and the potential signing of Bolton’s Connell should excite fans as the club continue to look to unearth gems.

According to ExWHUemployee, West Ham United are currently working on summer deals for West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon and Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Rondon spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Newcastle United – scoring 11 Premier League goals during a strong campaign for the Magpies.

Mitrovic, meanwhile, also struck 11 Premier League goals during the recent campaign, but the powerful striker could not prevent Fulham from being relegated.

As it stands, both will play in the Championship next term, although it seems extremely unlikely that will be the case by the time that the transfer window closes.

When asked about West Ham’s transfer activity on social media, ExWHUemployee claimed that the Hammers were currently working on deals for Rondon and Mitrovic.

The London club’s fans have been on social media reacting to the claim and it would be fair to say that a number have differing opinions on the potential double swoop.

Although there is one game of the season left to go, it’s safe to say Arsenal are in need of defensive improvements this summer.

You can argue that the Gunners defence is a large reason as to why the club failed to finish in the Premier League top-four and are the main culprit as to why fans are nervous for Wednesday’s crucial Europa League final fixture against Chelsea.

The likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Stephan Lichtsteiner have haunted Arsenal fan’s dreams all season, but with the summer window now open, the club now have the chance to exorcise those demons and bring in the players that can solidify the backline, and one name has been made available.

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has been advised by club president Uli Hoeness to ‘find a new challenge’ after a difficult season with the Bavarian club, and with Arsenal being previously linked with the defender, the Gunners could land a major coup.

Signed from Manchester City in 2011 for a reported fee of £11.8 million, Boateng would be a significant improvement on what Arsenal already have at the club. Sokratis has impressed in his debut season in north London but has found it hard at times to do all the work on his own with Laurent Koscielny lacking the pace he once had and Mustafi being Mustafi.

Boateng would plug a major hole in Arsenal’s team, and with Bayern seemingly willing to let the former German international walk, the defender could be available on the cheap for Unai Emery.
