Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Jurgen Klopp revealed that he tried to bring Jadon Sancho to Anfield from Manchester City, before Borussia Dortmund swooped in to sign the teenager.

The Bundesliga leaders signed the Citizens academy graduate back in the summer of 2017 for a fee in the region of £10m, and even handed the little-known forward the number seven shirt vacated by the then-Barcelona-bound Ousmane Dembele.

Since then, the England international has lit up the Bundesliga and is now one of the most precocious talents in world football. Sancho has scored eight goals and recorded 10 assists in all competitions for Dortmund so far this season, helping them stay above Bayern Munich in the table and on course for a first title since 2012.

Speaking on the matter, Klopp said: “Buying English players is a smart idea because we would never have a chance to get Sancho.

“We are not blind – we saw him, we liked him and then we think ‘can we get him?’ No. Because English clubs don’t sell them to other English clubs. I don’t know exactly what the reason is for that but they don’t do it.”

Understandably, Liverpool fans will have been gutted to hear that they missed out on Sancho, and have reacted to the news on Twitter…

20-year-old West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice recently pledged his international future to England, despite having previously represented the Republic of Ireland in three friendly matches, as reported by the BBC.

Born in London – but eligible for Ireland due to having Irish grandparents – the young defensive midfielder will now be determined to justify his decision by breaking into Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions setup.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini certainly believes that Rice ought to be in the England manager’s plans.

What he said

As quoted by the club’s official website, the Irons’ Chilean coach said that Rice “is ready to play for England. We are just starting the development of him as a player. But at this moment his performances are better than every holding midfielder.”

The 65-year-old former Manchester City boss clarified his final point, saying “I am talking about the English players.” He clearly believes that the West Ham academy graduate is destined for big things though, adding: “we are just starting to see what will be with Declan in the future.”

A dangerous game

Pellegrini has demonstrated a huge amount of faith in Rice with these comments. Such praise is not unwarranted either – the youngster has been a revelation this season at the London Stadium, making himself one of the east London club’s most important players.

However, the manager has also taken a risk with this statement. Whilst Rice may well get a confidence boost from his words, they also apply additional pressure. Calling him one of the best in the country will raise the expectation levels that people have of Rice, which could ultimately have a negative impact on his development.

As a young player, it would be perfectly normal for the midfielder to show some inconsistency or suffer fluctuations in form. Following Pellegrini’s words, if this now happens to Rice he may be more harshly judged than he otherwise would be without the additional hype added by his coach.

وأوضح: “تحدثت من قبل مع النادي الألماني من أجل إقامة أكاديمات في مصر ولكن لم يكونوا متحمسين، والأمر اختلف مع شركة زد وقمنا بعمل التوأمة”.

وأكمل: “هدفنا خوض الناشئين لمعسكرات في ألمانيا  والمشاركة في البطولات من مواهب النادي، وبالفعل هناك مسئولين من قبل بوروسيا دورتموند متواجدين في مصر لمتابعة الناشئين”.

واختتم: “نجيب ساويرس يسعى إلى تطبيق أفكار جيدة، ونريد تحقيق إنجاز كبير، والنادي سيضم كوكبة كبيرة من كبار اللاعبين في كرة القدم”.

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Derby County owner Mel Morris is reportedly ready to sell up, and the news should be hugely worrying for Rams manager Frank Lampard.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Daily Mail report that the businessman is losing around £3m every month from the Championship club as things stand, and he is ready to walk away unless they win promotion back to the Premier League.

The Daily Mail says that the man who grew up supporting the east Midlands outfit as grown disillusioned with the business of football, and has struggled dealing with players and agents for example.

The report adds that there is another confidential reason why he is thinking about cashing in on County, although ideally he would like to still have ownership of Pride Park stadium even if he sells.

Bad news for Lampard?

It certainly is.

The report is hardly helpful in Derby’s push for promotion as it just adds extra pressure on their shoulders to go up, something they appear to already be struggling with given some of their performances and defeats in recent weeks.

Lampard will know that he needs to spend some money in the summer if the Rams fail to secure a return to the Premier League in order to ensure they are strong again next season, and with players like Harry Wilson surely unlikely to stay.

However, a potential sale of the club could mean he doesn’t get the funds he would like.

You never know which owner could walk through the door, and all in all this is a story that should concern the 40-year-old.

The Premier League has reached the closing stages. With less than 10 games less to play it really is squeaky bum time for Liverpool. Obviously, not many Kopites reading this would have rejected the chance to be in this position if offered it at the start of the season, though the manner in which they surrendered a lead on Manchester City means the pressure really is on. 

Not to be too cliché, but Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool squad have eight cup finals left to play. Win them all and their destiny isn’t even in their own hands but that’s all they can do. One of the best ever league campaigns in the club’s illustrious history surely deserves a prize, right? This is Liverpool we’re talking about.

With that in mind, here, we are going to take a look at a couple that may stop them from winning the ultimate prize. Or give them the boost to do exactly that.

Chelsea (Home, 14th April) 

Chelsea has always been a fixture in red on Liverpool’s calendar, and with the points up for grabs being the difference for a top 4 finish for Chelsea, or a Premier League title for Liverpool, it will truly be a game to turn heads.

We’ve been here before. Someone slipped but that doesn’t really tell the whole story, does it? Brendan Rodgers playing into Jose Mourinho’s tactical trap back in 2014 didn’t help of course, so winning this fixture would be a huge psychological boost.

Even in more recent matters, Liverpool will want to right the wrong that happened to them in the cup, when Eden Hazard silenced Anfield with a wonderful solo goal.

The Blues haven’t lost a game at Anfield since 2012. They’ve got to at some point.

Newcastle (Away, 4th May) 

Newcastle vs Liverpool has always been an exciting fixture for both sets of fans, being the fixture with the most goals scored in it over the course of Premier League history.

Liverpool have struggled to get solid results in recent seasons at St. James’ Park, having last found a victory in 2013,  and with the new found form of the Magpies, the Reds will have to be wary of a slip up similar to Manchester City’s earlier in the season, which will only boost the Toon Army’s spirit.

With the fixture being the penultimate game in the season and against a certain Rafa Benitez, the Reds could find themselves under immense pressure.

As we have seen earlier this season already, they could crumble to an uninspiring performance.

Next season was potentially looking pretty worrying for Tottenham fans, wasn’t it? Just as they were moving into their new stadium, their team as strong as ever, they could have lost the man who’d made it all possible. But now things now look a little more assured, for the moment at least.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to have all but cemented his position as Manchester United’s permanent manager, which has been well deserved considering his form, so that looming option for Mauricio Pochettino is seemingly out. Real Madrid’s bizarre reinstatement of Zinedine Zidane has also meant the Spurs boss may not be required there either.

It’s clear what Pochettino has done at Spurs has been impressive, despite the team not winning a trophy during his tenure. His ability to promote youth and integrate them with world-class talent to create a coherent squad on a low budget is certainly something to be admired. He’s a coach who improves players, and that fits the bill at Manchester United, in particular.

Now the Madrid and United positions appear to be filled, there won’t be as much speculation around his future. In the short term, this allows Spurs to concentrate on the top four battle they’ve now been dragged into after their recent poor form. The squad and, most importantly, the manager don’t need any outside distractions as the final few months rumble on.

If it’s clear Pochettino will stay next season, it could persuade the club’s top stars like Christian Eriksen to stay for another season too. It’d be understandable if the manager and these players left this summer, so if they all agree to stay together for another year it could work out to be a massive season for the club.

Spurs have been very fortunate for United and Madrid to have seemingly sorted their managers’ spots before looking towards their man, but Pochettino won’t stay there forever and next season, if he stays that long, could be the last chance for them to achieve Champions League and Premier League glory for a long time.

وارتبط اسم مهاجم إيفرتون، مويس كين، بإمكانية العودة مرة أخرى إلى صفوف يوفنتوس، لكن الأخير يبدو وأنه فشل في تلبية المطالب المادية للنادي الإنجليزي.

وبحسب شبكة “تيليفوت” الفرنسية، أصبح كين أقرب للانتقال إلى باريس سان جيرمان عن يوفنتوس على سبيل الإعارة لمدة موسم واحد.

ورحل كين قبل موسم إلى إيفرتون من يوفنتوس مقابل 30 مليون يورو، ولكن فشل في إثبات نفسه مع النادي الإنجليزي سواء مع المدرب الحالي، كارلو أنشيلوتي أو المدرب السابق، ماركو سيلفا.

حاول يوفنتوس استعادة اللاعب في الأيام الماضية على سبيل الإعارة ولكن إيفرتون كان يسعى فقط إلى إعارته مع وجود شرط إلزامي بشرائه في نهاية الموسم، وهو ما رفضه النادي الإيطالي.

أراد كين العودة إلى تورينو مرة أخرى ورفض عرضًا من بوروسيا دورتموند، لكن بعد فشل مفاوضات إيفرتون مع يوفنتوس سيكون الاتجاه إلى فرنسا وباريس سان جيرمان.
