Ronnie Irani has announced he is to step down as chair of Essex’s cricket committee to focus on his business commitments.Irani has fulfilled the unpaid role for about six years. In that time, Essex have won five trophies including the County Championship in 2017 and 2019 and the Bob Willis Trophy in 2020. They were in Division Two when he took on the role.With his business interests growing, however, Irani feels he no longer has the time required to continue in the position. He estimates he has dedicated around 40 hours a week to the club over the last few years and, with his company (R&D Advisors) now employing 40 people, he has feels he needs to commit more time to it. He will remain on the club’s board and his company remains one of Essex’s sponsors.One of Irani’s key decisions was appointing Chris Silverwood as head coach at the end of 2015. Silverwood went on to enjoy great success at Essex and was subsequently appointed as head coach of England. It is understood Irani was in the last two for the role of director of men’s cricket at the ECB at the end of 2018. Ashley Giles was eventually appointed to the job.”It’s been an incredible turnaround for Essex over the last six seasons and I’m proud of the part I’ve played in that,” Irani said. “When I became Chairman of the Cricket Committee on a voluntary basis we were underachieving and not playing to our potential. We won Division Two in my first season and won a first County Championship title in 25 years the following year.”Since then, we’ve added another three trophies to the cabinet, including that incredible double in 2019 and become one of the best and most successful cricket clubs in the world. واستمر: “وبالتالي، أعتبر هذا دوري محمد صلاح على تألقه في الموسم الحالي وليس دوري سلوت، اللقب الذي حصل عليه ليفربول قبل 5 سنوات نقول عليه دوري يورجن كلوب لأنه كان صاحب الفضل الأكبر”.

Tottenham Hotspur continued their good form with a win away to Hungarian champions Ferencvaros in the Europa League. It was a professional performance from Ange Postecolgou’s side, who ran out 2-1 winners in the Groupama Arena.

The Lilywhites, sporting an all green kit tonight, scored a goal in each half to ensure they won all three points. Young midfielder Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring for the visitors, pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty box to fire home and give his side a 1-0 lead.

After some good pressure from the home side, and still only a goal up and far from comfortable, Postecoglou turned to his big guns on the bench.

They certainly had an impact the Australian had hoped for, with James Maddison finding Brennan Johnson just inside the penalty box, who finished well into the bottom left-hand corner for his fifth goal in as many games. The Hungarian side pulled one back in the 90th minute, but could not find an equaliser.

There were certainly some impressive individual performances from Spurs, not least from their substitutes. However, one of their standout players on the night was exciting young talent Mikey Moore.

There is lots of hype around Spurs youngster Moore, who has impressed at academy level. After making his debut last term, he has finally managed to break into Postecoglou’s squad this season and is making a real impact.

Before the game, Maddison described his potential as “scary”, and that was certainly on show in Hungary. The youngster is a quick and direct winger, who is not afraid to run at a defender and look to take him on in a one-vs-one situation.

He showed that against Ferencvaros on Thursday night, as his stats from Sofascore reflect. The 17-year-old had 67 touches of the ball, completing 80% of his passes, creating one big chance and winning an impressive four fouls. He also worked hard off the ball, winning six ground duels and one tackle.

His impressive performance in Hungary earned him an 8/10 rating from The Evening Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick. The journalist praised the teenager for an ‘excellent showing’ against the Hungarian side, in which he ‘always looked to take on his man’.

Whilst Moore impressed against the Hungarian outfit, there was arguably one player who outshone the 17-year-old – Archie Gray.

It was an impressive performance against the Hungarian outfit from young Gray. He has featured in all but three of Spurs’ games this season, with the trip to Ferencvaros his third start of the new campaign.

The trust that has been shown in the youngster demonstrates just how highly rated he is by Postecoglou, and the England youth international has certainly repaid his faith. He was superb against the Hungarian champions, retaining possession well and working hard off the ball in an unfamiliar position at centre-back, before moving to left-back in the second half.

His impressive contribution was reflected in his post-match stats. The 18-year-old had 82 touches of the ball in Hungary – more than even teammate Yves Bissouma (76), completing 87% of his passes and creating two chances. Off the ball, the youngster performed well, and won three from three tackles.

His performance was enough to earn him a 7/10 rating from Kilpatrick. He explained the summer signing from Leeds showed ‘flashes of real class’ against the Hungarian side, praising him for his versatility.

It is a performance that will bring real confidence to Postecoglou, who will be hoping Moore, Gray and their teammates can continue a good run of form away to Brighton at the weekend.

Lancashire fight back after dismissal for 168 but hosts remain in command

The regulars in the Radcliffe Road Stand enjoyed this day’s cricket and Peter Wynne-Thomas would have enjoyed it, too. Like their counterparts in other counties, many Nottinghamshire supporters still keep old-style hand-written scorebooks in which a day, a match, a season, can be recorded. Tonight those treasured manuscripts will show that Steven Mullaney’s side bowled out Lancashire for 168, thus giving their side a lead of 104. And by the time the books were being packed away on a quite glorious evening in Nottingham, that advantage had grown to 231 with five wickets lost while Brett Hutton could look back on a day in which his own five wickets had created a fine opportunity to win the match.At the other end of this great cricket ground, down a passage and round a corner, Wynne-Thomas spent much of his later working life in the Trent Bridge library surrounded by old scorebooks and forever in debt to the diligence of past generations whose veneration for the past and whose passion for accuracy matched his own. Of course PWT liked seeing Nottinghamshire do well, although he had supported the county for so long he knew there would be rough years. While he enjoyed the three-course meals, he coped with the austerity lunches.Peter, who died in July, held various posts at Trent Bridge. But Lancashire’s leading run-scorer is little troubled these days by a score of 32 for 3 and he was soon playing with something of the fluency he showed when milking Warwickshire for 170 last week.That said, Bohannon played and missed more often in one hour at Trent Bridge than he had in seven at Emirates Old Trafford and those warnings needed to be set against the four fine fours he struck in the space of nine balls from Dane Paterson and Hutton. It was, then, less of a shock when, having made 35 off 48 balls, he failed to cover the latter bowler’s movement and edged him to Ben Duckett. Suddenly one thought of number of loose balls sent down by Lancashire’s attack 24 hours earlier; Nottinghamshire’s first-innings 272 became newly formidable.The rest of the session strengthened that impression. Danny Lamb, who had originally come in to watch the night on Sunday evening survived for over 80 minutes on Monday morning before he edged Paterson to Moores in the next over and Nottinghamshire’s fine session was completed a minute or so before lunch when Rob Jones was beaten by Hutton’s movement off the pitch and Sam Northeast pocketed the catch at third slip.Two overs after the resumption Dane Vilas attempted no shot to a ball outside off stump and was leg before to Hutton for 15. Given that the ball was seaming about, the Lancashire skipper’s decision was plainly unwise but his obvious disappointment with the decision was understandable. The ball appeared to be missing the stumps. The rest of the innings was wrapped up in less than an hour in which 21-year-old George Lavelle’s 32 offered evidence of his exciting talent.It would be facile to lambast Lancashire’s batting after an innings in which seven players had reached double figures but none had passed 35. More persuasive, perhaps, is the argument that Hutton, Paterson and Fletcher had made good use of a surface offering pace, bounce and movement and on which no batsman, not even Nottinghamshire’s three half-centurions, has looked completely at home. That argument is strengthened by the evidence of the home side’s second innings in which Duckett’s 44 is the best contribution to date.Lancashire’s bowlers deserve credit, too, especially as they are coping without Saqib Mahmood, who is off the field with a side injury. Glen Chapple and Vilas have put together a ballsy bunch of players and there was no point in this evening session in which their cricket was not aggressive or purposeful. Vilas posted three slips and got his rewards when Tom Bailey and George Balderson took two wickets apiece. Lancashire may indeed lose this game but one imagines their batsmen will die in the trenches.As for Mahmood’s injury, Emirates Old Trafford issued a statement saying the bowler is still being assessed, a process that began this morning. So perhaps he is undergoing continuous assessment; a sort of concertina’d version of A Levels during the pandemic. Peter Wynne-Thomas would just smile quietly and tell you such things are not unknown. For wasn’t there that business with a player from Clarke’s All-England XI in 1848…?

As those at St James’ Park once again look to find a way past Premier League rules whilst welcoming fresh faces, Newcastle United have reportedly set their sights on one player who’d help them do just that.

The rules state that every side must have at least eight homegrown players in their 25-man squad, which Ramsey would count towards thanks to his status as an English academy graduate at Aston Villa.

Newcastle aren’t the only side interested in the midfielder though, with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal also reportedly eyeing moves to sign Ramsey in what would be a frustrating blow for Aston Villa.

The return of Sandro Tonali has handed Newcastle one of the most underrated midfields in the Premier League, with the Italian standing alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton to form quite the trio in the middle of the park. Likely leapfrogging Sean Longstaff in the pecking order, Ramsey would arguably complete Howe’s midfield depth once and for all in a major boost for what may well prove to be a bargain price for a homegrown star.

That said, Villa manager Unai Emery was quick to reiterate Ramsey’s importance during the summer and may well do so once more when 2025 arrives. The Spaniard said, via The Independent: “Jacob Ramsey is a very important player. He grew up in the academy and his progression is getting better. – Um conjunto temos que avaliar sobre um contexto todo. Não dá para dizer o que é determinante para cada atleta. Tem que pegar o desempenho dos últimos quatro anos. A gente tem as oportunidades. E quando vem aqui ele tem que produzir dessa mesma forma. É o último ano de preparação para a Copa, mas todos esses fatores definem a convocação final – declarou.

O técnico também revelou que houve uma mudança de planos quanto a jogadores que teriam chance na lateral esquerda.

-O que posso antecipar é que o Renan Lodi não pôde ser convocado pela não vacinação. Ele perdeu essa oportunidade de concorrer. Essa busca de informações. O Arana poderia estar, mas não teve ainda trabalhos mais específicos de treinamento – disse.

A manutenção de Coutinho na lista de convocados foi definida desta forma pelo treinador.

-Eu, particularmente, entendo que a vacinação é uma responsabilidade social. Eu trago comigo. Eu e minha família. Eu e meus netos. Queria ter meus pais, não tenho. Mas queria poder protegê-los. Segundo, o aspecto é respeitando a parte das autoridade sanitárias de cada país. Renan Lodi não poderia entrar no Equador. Ele teve a primeira dose da vacina no dia 10. Não estaria apto de estar com a delegação. O doutor Jorge Pagura falou sobre a vacinação dos atletas.

-Existem dois tipos de condição. Em relação à vacina, é um problema técnico. A CBF prioriza os que têm a vacinação completa. O Equador não permite entrada de quem não tem o ciclo completo. Os estrangeiros têm que ter as duas vacinas e os estrangeiros também. De qualquer forma, estaria prejudicado nesta condição – afirmou.

Renan Lodi foi convocado para os jogos contra Colômbia e Argentina, no fim do ano passado.
