Antoine Griezmann has finally revealed his actual thoughts on not being made the France captain, with Kylian Mbappe chosen instead.
What happened between Griezmann and Mbappe?
When Hugo Lloris opted to retire from international football, there was an expectation from some that the Atletico Madrid man would take over.
However, Didier Deschamps snubbed the more experienced 32-year-old in favour of Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe.
At the time, that decision supposedly annoyed Griezmann, who was been named France’s new vice-captain instead. After all, Le Figaro even claimed that considered ruling himself out of contention for future call-ups.
In the end, the forward opted against that and has since admitted that he is now fully behind Mbappe, even if it was a bitter pill to swallow initially.
Griezmann told Telefoot: “It was hard to take, and tough. I’m 32 and, although I still have the legs, I know I’m reaching the end [of my career].
“I had a hard time stomaching it for one or two days.”
He added: “I’m fully behind our captain Kylian. I won’t change anything, because that’s who I am.”
How many goals has Mbappe scored for France?
Griezmann certainly has given plenty to France over the years, playing 120 times for his country. In this period, he has played in two World Cup finals (winning won), while scoring 43 goals and claiming 36 assists. He also finished as the top scorer at Euro 2016 although his country lost in the final to Portugal.
However, Mbappe isn’t exactly a surprising pick for captain. After all, he too has played in two World Cup finals, scoring four goals across those matches – the most any player has ever managed.
And while he is still only 24 years of age, he already has 69 caps to his name, netting 39 goals and providing 24 assists in that time.
With that being the case, it feels as though Deschamps has picked an option for the long term, instead of entrusting the older Griezmann with the armband for a few years.
Only time will tell if this is the right decision but at least it now appears that the 32-year-old has finally come to terms with it all.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that he wants to keep tight hold of Kyogo Furuhashi during the transfer window, according to a report from Football Insider.
How many goals has Kyogo scored for Celtic?
Since making the move to Scotland with his current club, the striker has really come into his own and has hit heights that the Scottish Premiership outfit probably never expected from the 28-year-old.
Having only ever been tried in Japan, it was unclear just how well the player would adapt to life in the SPL. The answer is – he's thrived. Kyogo has managed to hit double digit league tallies in both of his seasons with Celtic so far and managed a career best 27 Premiership strikes in 2022/23.
It meant that the forward ended the campaign with 29 goal contributions in just 31 starts – and a rate of 1.13 goals or assists per 90, meaning he practically guaranteed one or the other every time he played. He now has a total of 39 goals in just 47 league starts for the Scottish side – and it is no wonder teams are now sniffing around the player.
Crystal Palace are one team who have been linked with a bid for the Hoops star, with the Eagles having scouted the attacker ahead of a potential move. Burnley are another team who have him on their transfer radar, with the Clarets looking to ensure they stay in the top flight after promotion from the Championship.
Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi.
Are Celtic selling Kyogo?
However, it appears any interested party may struggle to land the fan favourite this summer. That's because according to a report from Football Insider, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers does not want to let one of his most important players leave.
The manager is determined to keep hold of the striker and any potential deal for Kyogo will apparently now cost more than Vincent Kompany's team can afford.
It's no surprise the returning boss is taking a stand – Kyogo has impressed anyone who's watched his progress with the Bhoys, with football journalist Josh Bunting calling the player "intelligent" and saying he enjoys watching how the striker makes his off the ball runs and gets in behind the opposition.
It shows a high footballing IQ and if Rodgers can hold firm and keep the player, it could be a real boost for them in the next campaign as they embark to make a better go of Champions League football.
Centuries from B Indrajith and captain Abhinav Mukund led Tamil Nadu’s frenetic push for runs on day four, before they declared 255 ahead
The Report by Arun Venugopal in Rajkot04-Jan-2017 ScorecardFile photo – Abhinav Mukund scored his 26th first-class ton•PTI
Centuries from B Indrajith and captain Abhinav Mukund led Tamil Nadu’s frenetic push for runs, before they declared their innings late on the fourth evening 255 ahead; they were pushing for an outright win, having conceded the first-innings lead on the third day. Facing five tricky overs before stumps, Mumbai’s openers, Praful Waghela and 17-year-old debutant Prithvi Shaw, defended stoutly to end an absorbing day on 5 for 0.Mumbai’s first-innings total was revised to 411 when they were awarded five penalty runs due to Tamil Nadu’s batsmen running on the pitch in the 74th over. That meant their target became 251 from the 256 Tamil Nadu had set.Having entered the fourth day with a 101-run deficit, Tamil Nadu had to make the play and they didn’t falter. Their top order ensured there was no let up in momentum at any stage, and by the time the innings was declared close, their run-rate was 4.56. Mumbai’s fielding, on the other hand, was patchy after it was put under pressure once too often.Tamil Nadu bristled with intent right from the outset, with openers Abhinav and debutant Ganga Sridhar Raju alternating between running tight singles and scoring fluent boundaries. Raju played a few cuts and a cute-looking tuck off his pad, while Abhinav unfurled the upper cut, one of his favourite strokes, for a four. They showed restraint wherever necessary, though. When Abhishek Nayar tried to tempt Raju outside off, the batsman left well and played out a maiden. However, in the 13th over, when Raju was tempted the second time, he slashed at Nayar but the ball went over a wide second slip. Meanwhile, Abhinav, unlike in the first innings, stood well outside the crease to neutralise the swing, and drove powerfully whenever the ball was in his range. While the run rate hovered around three in the first half of the morning session – Tamil Nadu were on 60 for no loss in 20 overs – Indrajith’s arrival, after Raju was trapped in front by Balwinder Sandhu, amped up the innings. Indrajith, promoted ahead of Kaushik Gandhi, threw Mumbai’s spin duo – offspinner Akshay Girap and left-armer Vijay Gohil – off gear. While he didn’t predetermine the charge, he often stepped out to drive the ball, and in the process played with the bowlers’ lengths and minds. When they adjusted by landing the ball short, he went back and whipped it powerfully off his hips.Strangely, Mumbai didn’t persist with their seamers enough in the first session – although Sandhu bowled 10 overs, Nayar and Shardul Thakur, their most successful bowlers in the first innings, bowled only four and five overs respectively. Mumbai coach Chandrakant Pandit later reasoned that they had to be discontinued as they weren’t able to check the flow of runs. Abhinav and Indrajith, meanwhile, wiped out the deficit and took Tamil Nadu to 124 for 1, with Indrajith scoring 41 at nearly a run-a-ball by lunch.Mumbai spread out the field in the second session – at one stage, they only had four fielders not in deep positions – and introduced part-time spinners like Siddhesh Lad. They also bowled wide of off stump and the left-arm spinner Gohil tried to land his deliveries on the rough outside leg stump in an attempt to choke the scoring. While they strung together a few quiet overs, Tamil Nadu invariably managed to find release through a few boundaries. Mumbai were also hurt by their fielding lapses, as Abhinav was let off twice in successive deliveries in the 42nd over. First, Tare missed a stumping off Gohil, who then fluffed a return chance off the next delivery.Abhinav completed his fourth hundred of the season, and, by the time he slashed a catch to slip in the pursuit of quick runs, he and Indrajith had put on 185 runs. Dinesh Karthik walked in at No. 4, and his fidgety, street-smart presence accelerated the pace of scoring. An over after he was warned for running on the pitch, Karthik carted Sandhu for three slog-swept boundaries. Karthik also forced the fielding side to make mistakes by attempting a few impossible runs; on one occasion, he had backed up too far and had given up, but the throw from backward point missed the stumps at the non-striker’s end.Indrajith, meanwhile, completed his fourth first-class hundred, and an over after Karthik’s dismissal – his uppish cut off Sandhu was caught at point – had a reprieve as his miscued hoick was dropped by Lad. Vijay Shankar came in next and tonked the bowling, too, but, during a tense passage of play that was marked by frequent conversations involving players from both sides and the umpires, he was penalised for having run on the danger area. That, however, didn’t seem to affect Shankar and Indrajith, who scored the bulk of the 39 runs that Tamil Nadu made in the last four overs they faced before the declaration.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has numerous issues to deal with as his first day on the job approaches this weekend, the future of striker Romelu Lukaku being one of them.
While that decision may well be above his paygrade, with Todd Boehly very much taking a hands-on approach since becoming chairman last year, Pochettino will no doubt have a say in whether Lukaku has a part to play following his return from a loan spell with Inter Milan.
What is the latest with Romelu Lukaku's Chelsea future?
The Telegraph reports that further talks between Lukaku and Chelsea are planned for this week, and that it is in everyone's interest to find a solution sooner rather than later.
It is suggested that it is unlikely Lukaku will play any part in Chelsea's tour of the United States next month, but finding a club willing to sign him permanently – the Belgian is said to have ruled out the option of joining a Saudi club – is proving difficult.
However, a solution may soon be found as Juventus have supposedly shown an interest in signing Lukaku to replace Dusan Vlahovic, who could in turn head in the opposite direction to Stamford Bridge.
The Belgian's second stint in the capital has been nothing short of a nightmare, with an angry public interview in 2021 seeing him subsequently loaned out ever since.
Could Chelsea swap Romelu Lukaku for Dusan Vlahovic?
The intricacies of any deal are unclear at this stage, such as one club handing over a fee in part exchange, but the transfer could well make sense for both clubs.
Given his value of £52m by Football Observatory, it is likely to be Chelsea reaching for their chequebook rather than Juve.
On the face of it, there is very little between the two players when it comes to how they performed in Serie A last season. Vlahovic scored ten goals in 27 games for Juve, while Lukaku netted the same number across 25 outings for Inter.
Vlahovic's goals came from fewer shots, scoring at a rate of 0.16 goals per shot, as per FBref, compared to 0.12 for Lukaku. Those similarities continue in terms of passes completed (71.6% and 68.6% respectively) and also aerial duels won (36 v 39).
What Vlahovic provides that Lukaku does not, however, is some added balance in the final third. For example, the Serbia international won 0.28 tackles per 90 minutes last season, which is an increase on Lukaku's 0.05. That is the same case in terms of blocks: 0.47 compared to 0.16.
Once described as a "monster" by Italian football expert Carlo Garganese, there is no denying that Vlahovic's goalscoring figures have steadily declined, from 0.82 per game at Fiorentina in the first half of the 2021-22 season, to 0.59 after joining Juve later that campaign and finally to 0.47 last term.
But in a team stacked full of attacking gems, such as Mykhailo Mudryk and new signing Christopher Nkunku to name just a couple of players, it may well be that a move to Stamford Bridge unlocks the potential Vlahovic has only been able to show glimmers of in Turin.
The presence of several India internationals will add to the interest in this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the selectors will have one eye on bolstering India’s bench strength as 28 teams battle it out
The Preview by Deivarayan Muthu24-Feb-2017
Shikhar Dhawan does not have runs under the belt, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy will provide a good opportunity to rectify that•ESPNcricinfo Ltd
There are less than 100 days to go for the Champions Trophy, and the build-up has already started with the tournament cup setting off on tour to all eight competing nations. India, the defending champions, are currently playing a four-Test series at home against Australia, and do not play an ODI until the tournament, starting on June 1 in England. India have most bases covered in ODI cricket, but they need a stable opening partnership in addition to back-up options for the top players. These are some of the gaps the selectors will seek to plug when the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the domestic 50-over tournament, kicks off on Saturday. The way the teams stack up
Group A: Assam, Baroda, Haryana, Odisha, Punjab, Railways, Vidarbha. Hosts – Delhi Group B: Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh. Hosts – Odisha Group C: Andhra, Bengal, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Rajasthan. Hosts – Chennai Group D: Chhattisgrah, Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Saurashtra, Services. Hosts – Kolkata
For starters, the presence of internationals like MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan – a rare luxury in Indian domestic cricket – is likely to attract more eyeballs. Dhoni’s most recent game with Jharkhand came in the previous season’s Vijay Hazare Trophy. Before that, he had last turned out for his state in 2007.In January, MSK Prasad, India’s chairman of selectors, played down concerns about the form of the openers in ODI cricket, and believed that domestic limited-overs cricket would tune them up for the Champions Trophy.Dhawan, who had helped India transition from Virender Sehwag in the last Champions Trophy, isn’t a certainty this time. He does not have the weight of runs behind him. Injuries haven’t helped his cause either. In his first ODI in nearly a year, Dhawan was swung out for 1 against England in Pune, and followed it up with 11 in the next ODI in Cuttack despite getting a life on the same score. Dhawan was left out for the third ODI and returned to the domestic set-up for the Inter-State and Inter-Zonal T20s. He struck back-to-back fifties, but was inconsistent.KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane, who are both with the Test team, haven’t been consistent enough in ODIs either. A strong performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy might help Dhawan sneak ahead in the race for the hotly-contested opening slots. And then there is Rohit Sharma, who, if fully fit, will be the first-choice opener. But Rohit will have to prove his fitness first in domestic cricket, in line with national coach Anil Kumble’s policy.Rohit, who sustained a thigh injury in the Visakhapatnam ODI against New Zealand, is back to training. He hasn’t been named in Mumbai’s squad yet, but might play in the latter part of the tournament if he regains full fitness. “If Rohit is fit later and expresses the desire to play, he will get to play in the tournament,” Mumbai’s chairman of selectors Milind Rege told ESPNcricinfo.Amit Mishra and Mohammed Shami, too, haven’t recovered from injuries, and it remains to be seen if they make a late entry into the tournament. India would ideally want them to get fit and some one-day game-time before flying to England.India’s middle order, though, looks settled – if not set in stone – with Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, and Kedar Jadhav firing in unison against England. For fringe players like Manish Pandey, who will have to juggle batting and captaincy for Karnataka in the absence of the injured Vinay Kumar, and Ambati Rayudu, who made a hundred for India A against the touring England side, this could be a chance to show the selectors that they merit a place in the squad, even if not necessarily as first-eleven picks.Suresh Raina and Rishabh Pant, the captains of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi respectively, are also in the India middle-order roulette. Raina’s form and fitness has been particularly patchy in the past year. He played only three matches in the Ranji Trophy and was then ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand with viral fever after initially being picked in the squad. He was overlooked for the England ODIs, but was selected for the T20Is.On the eve of the T20 series, Virat Kohli said: “We still believe that he [Raina] has enough to contribute in the short formats for India.” Raina repaid the captain’s confidence with a 45-ball 63 – his first T20I fifty since 2010 – in the third game in Bangalore.Pant, meanwhile, has set the domestic scene alight, and his promotion to state captaincy, after having made his List A debut in last year’s tournament, only adds to India’s bench strength. Ashish Nehra, who made his international debut in 1999, when his new Delhi captain was a year old, has also set his sights on the Champions Trophy, though he last played an ODI in the 2011 World Cup.”I aim to play at least three matches to build up my match-fitness. Fifty-overs is a different challenge and Vijay Hazare is a good platform to test myself,” Nehra had told ESPNcricinfo in a recent interview. The Under-19 talents, who have a World Cup to play next year, are also in the Vijay Hazare mix. Mumbai’s Prithvi Shaw, who struck a hundred in his most recent Youth ODI against England Under-19s, and Tamil Nadu’s S Radhakrishnan, who top-scored with 65 in a tie in the same series, are in line to make their List A debuts. In all, 28 teams and over 400 players will battle it out across multiple venues in Delhi, Kolkata, Odisha, and Chennai for the Indian domestic 50-over title and Champions Trophy berths.Click here for a full list of fixtures.
Liverpool have "spoken to" Chelsea defender Levi Colwill's camp about a summer move, however the Blues have reiterated he is not for sale, and they are set to offer him a long-term contract, according to journalist Felix Johnston.
Is Levi Colwill leaving Chelsea this summer?
There have been reports that Chelsea have already offered Colwill a long-term contract, however he is yet to put pen to paper, and remains open to a move to Brighton & Hove Albion, where he impressed on loan during the 2022-23 campaign.
The Blues have already rejected a bid of £30m for the defender, such is their intention to keep him, and they are set to hand him assurances over his first-team involvement next season, with Mauricio Pochettino planning to make him his first-choice left-sided centre-back.
Despite Chelsea's reluctance to part ways with the 20-year-old, there is growing interest in his services, with Manchester City recently being named as potential suitors in a report from The Evening Standard, which also name-checks Liverpool.
The Reds have been tracking the former Brighton loanee for quite some time, and there are now reports they have made their first move to secure his signature.
Chelsea journalist Felix Johnston recently took to Twitter to provide an update on Liverpool's pursuit of the youngster, saying: "Understand despite being told Colwill is not for sale, Liverpool have spoken to Levi Colwill’s camp again, stating even at a record price they would be interested.
"He’s one reason they haven’t signed a CB. Liverpool also enquired to Chelsea directly. Chelsea reiterated he is not for sale & will offer him a long term contract, but will have to be within new wage structure. Colwill will talk with Poch after U21 Euros. Southgate told Levi he wants to start him at Euro 2024, but he has to be a regular starter this season."
What position does Levi Colwill play?
The Englishman has predominantly featured at centre-back throughout his career so far, however he is also capable of playing at left-back on occasion, having made seven appearances in that area of the pitch, so could be perfect on the left of a back three if Jurgen Klopp adjusts his system to push Trent Alexander-Arnold higher up.
Last season was the young centre-back's breakthrough year in the Premier League, making 17 appearances for Brighton, and he impressed considerably, particularly in the air, averaging 2.6 aerials won per game, the highest amount in the Seagulls squad.
In May, the England U21s international was hailed as "astonishing" for his performance against Arsenal, with his passing ability being branded "incredible", and he ranks in the 99th percentile for passes attempted per 90 over the past year, when compared to his positional peers.
levi-colwill-premier-league-transfers-liverpool
At the moment, Chelsea seemingly have no plans to sell the £15k-per-week defender, however he is open to leaving, and he would surely consider a move to Liverpool, if Klopp gave him assurances over playing time.
Colwill could be an excellent addition for Liverpool, having already proven himself in the Premier League at just 20-years-old, and Klopp will be hoping Chelsea begin to soften their stance as the transfer window goes on.

The BCCI has sent a list of observations, of objections as well as suggestions, to the ICC regarding the new constitution that will be up for vote at the next round of meetings in April. While the major focus of the BCCI’s response was the ICC’s proposed new financial model, the board also sent its thoughts on a number of governance issues, including membership, the role of the ICC chairman and the composition of the ICC Board. The new constitution was passed in principle at the board meetings in February but each proposal is likely to be put to vote separately in April. Here is a summary of the main points the BCCI makes:Membership Committee – The ICC Board must have final say on membership issues with power to re-examine all aspects of any recommendation of the Membership Committee.- The Membership Committee should be an independent external agency that is not part of the ICC. If not, then members that sit on the committee should not be ICC directors.- One member from each continent should be part of the committee. “This is because admission of a new member and/or re-classification of an existing member will impact all members and views of at least one member from each continent needs to be taken into account before assessing the comprehensive impact of the same,” the BCCI said.- If any member was to fall foul of any terms and conditions, then it should get at least 90 days to carry out remedial action before the committee examines the respective board.- If a member country is in serious breach of its obligations then unless there is “prima facie view” or “sufficient evidence” the ICC Board should not suspend or terminate its membership.- The Dispute Resolution Committee, which deals with appeals on membership issues, must be independent of the ICC. No member of this committee should be an ICC director or part of any other committee.- To avoid any impact on the FTP, any new admission or re-classification of an existing Full Member should only be done at the end of every revenue cycle.- To retain Full Member status, a country should have played a minimum number of Test matches.ICC Chairman .- The chairman should not be elected through a secret ballot. A transparent procedure must be laid out in the ICC’s Articles of Association.- If a chairman fails to finish his tenure, the new entrant should be appointed only for the remainder of the term and not for a fresh two-year period.- The chairman, acting or full-time, cannot have a vote at ICC Board meetings because the post is an independent authority and the ICC is a members’ organisation.- The CEO should report to the ICC Board and not the Chairman. The CEO and ICC management should be appraised by an independent external agency considering the senior staff is paid “substantial bonuses” based on their performance.- The chairman cannot have binding powers. Only the CEO, under the ICC Board’s instructions, should hold such a power.- The chairman cannot call a special meeting or choose a venue for the same. Only the ICC Board has the authority.ICC Board of Directors – There should be only one director, not three, representing the Associates on the ICC Board.- The Independent director should be a non-voting member.- A current or former player should have a seat on the ICC Board, but also with no vote.- A secret ballot cannot be triggered by two or more voting members on the ICC Board, which the present ICC constitution permits.- The rule about having a two-third vote to pass a resolution can only apply if all the voting members are present- ICC committees should be independent and not comprise any of the Board directors. “This will obviate potential situations where the same person is part of the MC which makes a recommendation, sits on the Board of Directors which reviews the recommendation to take a final decision, and is also part of the Dispute Resolution Committee which will decide any appeal on membership issues against a decision of the MC or Board of Directors.”
