Pochettino Wants £50k-A-Week PL Star At Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino would like Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister at Chelsea this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Is Mac Allister leaving Brighton?

The 24-year-old's future is a key talking point at the moment, with an exit from the Amex Stadium expected at the end of the season. He has enjoyed an excellent campaign for the Seagulls, scoring 10 goals in the Premier League and proving to be a vital player.

Mac Allister has also tasted World Cup glory with Argentina, starting six matches in the competition, and it feels as though he believes now is the right time to make a step up in his career. With Chelsea looking for new signings this summer, and with Pochettino coming in as the new manager, additions in the middle of the park are vital.

The £50,000-a-week Brighton hero is someone who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, although he looks most likely to join Liverpool, as things stand.

Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

Are Chelsea still keen on Mac Allister?

Taking to Twitter, Romano admitted that the Reds could be closing in on the signing of Mac Allister, but made it clear that Pochettino remains an admirer, should the chance arise to snap him up:

"Personal terms are almost agreed between Liverpool and Mac Allister — after project presented in April. Deal not done yet, there are still details left — Pochettino appreciates him. No issues with Brighton — been told there’s fixed price for Alexis’ exit in June."

Mac Allister would be perfect for Chelsea this summer, coming in and adding the youth and legs that have been missing at times this season, with age beginning to catch up with the likes of N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic.

While it looks as though he is off to Liverpool, the Blues should still do all they can to get him, considering he has averaged 2.1 tackles per game in the league this season, chipped in with 11 goal contributions and been hailed as a "very intelligent" player by former Manchester City and Argentina striker Sergio Aguero.

He has the rare ability to provide defensive stability and box-to-box quality, much in the way City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan does, and he could be a lovely foil for international teammate Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea next season. If they fail to get him, as looks likely currently, bringing in a player with similar qualities is vital in the coming months.

Shakib, Gayle rescue Tallawahs from 2 for 4

Jamaica Tallawahs overcame a dramatic top-order collapse, that saw them slump to 2 for 4 in the first seven balls, to chase down 129 against Guyana Amazon Warriors at Sabina Park. Shakib Al Hasan and Chris Gayle, who batted at No. 7, put on an unbeaten 87-run stand to take Tallawahs home. Gayle had injured his back while fielding in the first innings and left the field in the 17th over, which meant he could not bat for the first 18 minutes of the chase. The win pushed Tallawahs to second on the points table, behind Amazon Warriors who have played seven games. Two wickets from Sohail Tanvir within the first five balls and the run-out of Andre McCarthy, who failed to slide his bat in despite making his ground, in the first over left Tallawahs tottering. Their situation got worse when Kumar Sangakkara was adjudged caught behind off debutant Ali Khan’s first ball, in the second over. The Kingston crowd was stunned and a padded-up Gayle was watching from the dressing room, counting down his minutes.Andre Russell, batting at No. 6, put the chase on track by hitting a six and a four in the first four balls he faced. He clubbed a 15-ball 24 but was dismissed when Adam Zampa took a one-handed diving catch at backward square leg off Veerasammy Permaul at the end of the fifth over. To the crowd’s respite, Gayle finally walked out with the score 45 for 5.Shakib and Gayle, who has not opened the batting on just three other occasions in his T20 career, provided impetus from the outset – six boundaries were struck in the first 12 balls of their partnership. Tallawahs needed 50 runs from 13 overs at that stage with a required rate of under four. One boundary was hit in the next six overs but Tallawahs cantered to the target with 25 balls to spare. After being inserted to bat, Amazon Warriors lost captain Martin Guptill, playing his last game of the season, for a duck.Chris Lynn struck an 18-ball 33 and Jason Mohammed anchored the innings with a 51-ball 46 but a failure to put together substantial partnerships meant Amazon Warriors could only post 128. Dale Steyn finished with 2 for 31 and best bowler was Pakistan left-arm spinner Imad Wasim who bowled an economical spell of 4-0-12-2.

Arsenal: Media Thrilled By "Huge" News For Arteta

Members of the media have expressed their delight and praise for Arsenal as the club secure a new deal for Bukayo Saka.

What’s been said about Saka?

The north Londoners are currently making moves to tie down some of manager Mikel Arteta’s key squad members, with goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale also recently putting pen to paper on fresh terms.

It is believed that Arsenal also wish to extend defender William Saliba’a deal, especially after his fine 2022/2023 Premier League campaign, with other players like Jorginho, Rob Holding, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny all heading into the final year of their contracts.

One star who will no longer be leaving in 2024 is Saka, though, as the club officially confirm he has signed a new deal in what is surely a big boost for Arsenal.

The 21-year-old has apparently agreed a four-year deal until the summer of 2027, with various journalists reacting to the news on Twitter.

Arsenal have been heralded for tying Saka down, as journalists Graeme Bailey (90min) and Simon Collings (The Evening Standard) respectively call the news “huge” and “vital”.

John Cross of The Daily Mirror and football writer Amy Lawrence also chipped in, with the former calling Saka’s new deal a “fabulous boost”.

Who is Bukayo Saka?

The England international has been a star player at Arsenal for the last few seasons, especially 22/23, with Saka netting an impressive 21 goal contributions in the league alone (WhoScored).

The 21-year-old also stands out as Arteta’s best-performing player by average match rating, leading to past interest from the likes of Man City.

However, after this contract news, it appears Saka will be remaining at Arsenal for the foreseeable.

Supreme Court ruling on Lodha reforms 'unconstitutional' – former judge

The Supreme Court verdict on BCCI reforms has come under sharp attack from former apex-court judge Markandey Katju, who termed the matter “unconstitutional and illegal”

The Supreme Court verdict on BCCI reforms has come under sharp attack from former apex-court judge Markandey Katju, who termed the matter “unconstitutional and illegal”.Katju, who had been appointed by the BCCI to advice it on the Supreme Court verdict relating to the implementation of the Lodha Committee recommendations, also advised the board to file a review petition before a larger bench of the apex court, and to not meet the Lodha Committee as scheduled on August 9, terming the panel as “null and void”.”What the Supreme Court has done is unconstitutional and illegal,” Katju said at a media conference. “There has been violation of principles of the [Indian] Constitution. Under our Constitution, we have legislature, executive and judiciary. There is broad separation of functions. It’s the legislature’s prerogative to make laws. If judiciary starts making laws, one is setting a dangerous precedent.”I have advised them [the BCCI] to file a review petition before a larger bench. In this case, the Supreme Court outsourced a committee [the Lodha Committee] to decide on BCCI’s punishment.”BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said the BCCI will study the interim report prepared by Justice Katju and then take a call.”The Supreme Court had appointed the Lodha Committee to find the defects in working of BCCI. That was okay. When the Lodha Committee report was submitted to the Supreme Court, it should have been forwarded to Parliament and State Legislatures,” Katju said. “It then should have been left to legislature to accept or not to accept the recommendations. Judiciary is not supposed to legislate.”He offered examples of cases where a larger bench with four or five judges have handled serious issues.Justice Katju’s take is that since the BCCI’s constitution has been prepared as per Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, both the Supreme Court and Lodha Committee can’t forcibly change the BCCI’s by-laws.”Both Supreme Court and Lodha Committee violated ‘Tamil Nadu Societies Registrar Act’,” he said. “They [the BCCI] have their own memorandum and by-laws. If you want to change the [BCCI’s] constitution, a special resolution needs to be passed by two-third of majority. The society alone can amend the by-laws. There can be complaints on financial irregularities or administrative lapses, one has to write to Registrar of Societies.”Justice Katju did agree, however, that “reforms are needed in the BCCI”, but he also had a counter argument. “If we speak about reforms in BCCI, then reforms are needed in judiciary also. There are more than three crore cases pending in Indian courts. And if this dangerous trend starts, tomorrow the Supreme Court might dictate editorial policies of press, the tenure of journalists… It will then open a Pandora’s Box.”

Kent feel shockwaves of thumping Essex win

Kent were level with Essex at the top of Division Two for a few heady hours before a thumping innings win for Essex against Worcestershire reasserted the superiority of the long-time leaders

“I’d be lying if I said I weren’t checking the scores,” admitted Essex’s head coach Chris Silverwood.Every interval – virtually every moment of peace – at Chelmsford over the last three days had been broken by an update of scores from around the country, both in the stands and the players’ balcony.News of Kent’s emphatic victory over Sussex, taking them level on points with Essex at the top of Division Two, filtered through as the players were walking off the field for tea. Just over an hour later, Essex had completed their demolition job of Worcestershire. This victory by an innings and 161 runs will have registered down the road in Kent, too.A three-day finish was on the cards when Worcestershire were reduced to 64 for 5 by lunch, in their first innings on day one. That Essex were able to fulfil expectations was ultimately down to Graham Napier, who picked up his fourth five-wicket haul of the season, after Ryan ten Doeschate had brought up his third century of the season before declaring 371 runs ahead. It was not the cleanest morning’s work from Essex. They lost Tom Westley run out for 254: his innings ended at 506 minutes after ten Doeschate dropped the ball into the off side and ran instantly. Westley gave up the run about halfway down, as Brett D’Oliveira swooped from point to throw down the stumps.Still, the Essex skipper remained calm and brought up his century from 114 balls. His innings also took his season’s tally past 1,000 first-class runs for the first time in his career.Essex should have struck in the first over of Worcestershire’s second innings. Jamie Porter got his fourth delivery to lift off a length and take Daryl Mitchell’s edge, only for Nick Browne to put down a simple catch at third slip. Browne would make amends later with a stunning one-handed catch at point, off the bowling of Will Rhodes, to remove Tom Fell.Mitchell’s reprieve allowed him and D’Oliveira to survive until the last over before lunch. It was then that David Masters, in his first over from the Hayes Close end, where he nabbed all seven of his first innings wickets, sent Mitchell on his way with a delivery that kept low as it moved in, knocking into middle and off stump. With the fourth ball after lunch, D’Oliveira was accounted for – becoming the first of Napier’s three afternoon-session wickets when he edged through to James Foster. The second came when Joe Clarke played on, looking to continue on an enterprising innings that was cut short at 22.At this point, George Rhodes, the only bright spot for Worcestershire at Chelmsford, seemed to be on his way to a second half-century in the match. It was at this point that ten Doeschate decided to throw the ball to Westley. Despite the change in regulation, spin has played little part at Chelmsford. In fact, Westley’s first over, the 39th of the second innings, was the first sight of spin from the hosts. It took just four balls to come good, as Ross Whiteley was trapped in front from around the wicket. In Westley’s next over, he drew Rhodes out of his crease to give James Foster his first Championship stumping of the season. The wicket of Leach, bowled by a full Napier delivery that moved late into the right-hander, took the teams to tea. There was a carnival feel to the evening session, as the floodlights were superseded by the sun, which found a gap in the clouds as Essex pushed for a day off. Ed Barnard, caught by Westley at second slip off Napier and then Ben Cox, flicking Masters tamely to Jamie Porter at mid on, gave Napier four in the innings and Masters nine in the match (he had never taken 10). And so the game within a game began – who would get the final wicket? In the end, it went Napier’s way, as Jack Shantry, having stroked a couple of boundaries, offered a high leading edge that ten Doeschate caught brilliantly, sprinting in from mid off.Essex now have a round off, while Kent host a revitalised Northamptonshire at Beckenham. In the meantime, the Essex players will be given some time off before they return to Chelmsford on September 12 to play Glamorgan, before a potential winner-takes-all clash with Kent at Canterbury in the final round of the season.Essex will play their remaining two matches without Alastair Cook, hence the acquisition of Adam Wheater on loan. With Hampshire happy for the wicketkeeper batsman to court opportunities elsewhere ahead of next season, Essex are thought to be interested in bringing him back to the club he left in 2013 on a more permanent basis. Silverwood, though, was keen not to comment on the matter just yet.

Spurs Could Ditch Kulusevski For "Unbelievable" £40m Gem

While Tottenham Hotspur are still yet to decide who will be their next permanent manager, a further issue for the Lilywhites is the uncertainty surrounding the future of talisman, Harry Kane, with the England skipper having been linked with a move away from the club of late.

The 29-year-old isn't the only Spurs man whose future at the club is somewhat up in the air, however, with it also unclear as to whether on-loan winger, Dejan Kulusevski will remain at N17 beyond the end of the season.

The Sweden international was signed on an 18-month loan deal from Juventus back in January 2022, with Sky Sports revealing at the time that the move included a £29.2m obligation to buy that would be triggered if certain 'sporting criteria' were met.

With the north Londoners having since missed out on the Champions League – as well as European qualification altogether – it would appear that it is no longer a certainty that Kulusevski will be signed on a permanent deal, with reports in Italy suggesting that the 23-year-old could be set for a return to Turin.

The player himself revealed on Sunday that he was unsure as to whether he would be staying put at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with there a potential for Spurs to have make do without the one-time Parma man next term.

Who could replace Kulusevski at Tottenham?

While the loss of the Stockholm native would appear a notable blow – having previously been a "real asset" to the club, according to pundit Paul Robinson – Tottenham could well ease that setback by snapping up a new recruit this summer.

Tottenham's Dejan Kulusevski

According to the Daily Mail, one potential target that is on the club's radar is Leicester City sensation, Harvey Barnes, with the 25-year-old seemingly now looking even more likely to depart following the Foxes' relegation to the Championship.

The dynamic winger – who could command a fee of around £40m – could well allow the Lilywhites to forget all about Kulusevski, with the Englishman having dazzled this season despite Leicester's collective woes.

While the on-loan Spurs man contributed just two goals and seven assists in the top flight this term from the flanks, Barnes, by contrast, proved a far more clinical presence at the King Power Stadium, scoring 13 goals in 34 league outings.

That has ensured that the one-time West Bromwich Albion loanee ranks in the top 6% in Europe's top five leagues among those in his position for non-penalty goals, while Kulusevski ranks in just the bottom 8% in that regard.

Although Barnes has typically operated on the opposite side to that of the Swede, the Burnley-born speedster has previously slotted into a right-wing role at times in his career to date, ensuring he could well be a solution in that starting berth for Spurs.

The 5 foot 9 ace – who has been described as "unbelievable" by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in the past – also provides the benefit of his defensive ability as he ranks in the top 13% for aerial duels won, while Kulusevski ranks in just the bottom 8% for that same metric.

As such, Spurs could well consider allowing Kulusevski to return to the Old Lady if they can prise the Englishman from the Midlands side this summer…

Man Utd May Turn To "Hottest" striker

Manchester United could be a potential destination for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic if he decides to leave his current employers in the forthcoming transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

What's the latest transfer news involving Dusan Vlahovic?

According to Corriere Torino via The Faithful MUFC, Manchester United are eyeing a move for Vlahovic and would need to pay around €90 million (£77.4 million) to land the Serbia international this summer.

The report states that Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal made proposals to try and land the 23-year-old in the January window; however, nothing came to fruition and he remained at Juventus.

ESPN claimed last month that Chelsea are said to have made an offer of €80 million (£68.8 million) as they look to sign a striker this off-season and Vlahovic is believed to be their preferred striking target at Stamford Bridge.

Vlahovic is unhappy at Juventus and has become a hot topic around Europe as many clubs look to capitalise on the fact Juventus will be plying their trade in the Europa Conference League next term rather than the Champions League, where they would've been situated if it wasn't for a 10-point deduction.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Jones thinks that Vlahovic could end up at Old Trafford this summer as speculation swirls over his future.

Jones said: “The situation around Vlahovic is very interesting. Potentially he’s one of the hottest frontmen on the market this summer – but we also have to consider Juve might change manager and my information is that could well sway his decision to stay if it happens.

“Let’s consider that he does leave Juve, there is good value to be had. Generally, there is a feeling he goes at around €70m, although I was told that he won’t leave for less than €80m (£70m). Even at that price, he holds good value in my eyes and would be worth the pursuit.

“A source in Italy told me he sees Bayern Munich and Manchester United as the two most likely landing spots for him but there are a few other clubs looking at this too so let’s see how it all opens up in the next few days as a decision is looming.”

Would Dusan Vlahovic prove to be a good signing for Manchester United?

Vlahovic, who has been hailed as a "monster", certainly knows where the back of the net is and would add a predatory instinct to a Manchester United side that did endure moments of profligacy in front of goal throughout this campaign.

In 42 appearances within 2022/23, Vlahovic managed to register 14 goals and four assists for Juventus in all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

Juventus'DusanVlahovicreacts

WhoScored show that the £216k-a-week ace was also a constant problem for opposition defenders to contend with, as he averaged 2.5 shots per match in Serie A.

The Serbia international also showed his capacity to lead the line effectively, successfully carrying out 63 shot-creating actions this season, according to FBRef.

Manchester United need to find a quality striker to add extra goals to their side heading into next term and Vlahovic could help the Red Devils to become genuine Premier League title challengers under Erik Ten Hag if they can get a deal over the line for the striker.
